107 miles group ride. haven't been putting in the miles lately, so it sucked. had to play gate keeper in the last 15 miles in the headwind.

RHR has been in the high 50s low 60s, so I'm not in the best shape. funny thing is it's my legs that gives out, not my cardio

Halfway across the country visiting wife's family for the week. I went to a spin studio yesterday and a gym today for hour long sessions. Just rode near Lthr, as I quickly found out the power reading in the spin class was wildly optimistic. Is HR really the way to go with gym bikes, since any other readings seem bogus?

A little over 4 hours riding from Redwood City to the Coast and back. The route @Ygduf suggested was excellent (though I modified some of it), although it was seriously cold. My Garmin showed it in the 20's and I thought that was a misread until I saw the frost on the grass. My toes were freezing, to the point I couldn't descend too fast because my big toe was in pain with cold. Regardless, had a great time.

4 hours Z2 in ridiculously nice weather for December 27th in Massachusetts. The high was something like 50 degrees! I had wool socks, a cycling cap, glove liners with normal half-finger gloves, leg warmers and a warm base layer under my jersey, and that was all the thermal gear I needed. I passed a lot of recreational riders in tights and full-on jackets. For high-40's, low-50's!? Mystifying.

I put a wind jacket on mid 40s, full jacket below 40. I don't think that's weird.

Wonder how you would react to the weekday hard morning rides in the summer. They start at 0530, so I leave my house to ride there at 0430 when it's already low 90s. When I get home at 8, it's usually about 100 degrees.

My ride today started at 32, hit a high of 45, but it was chilly in the Hilltowns especially on the descents.

Temperature ewang, I'll lose. It got into the 20's and I almost lost a toe

If its in the 70's, I have a base layer and arm warmers. Too acclimated to riding in the 90's and 100's.

I used to then I stopped. Now I find even the lightest ridiculously hot if it's 60+.

Amen on the weather. I'm about a 20 minute ride south of the MA border.

I rode in knickers 2 days ago, in similar weather, with 3 LS jerseys and a wind vest. A friend (of a BF friend once removed) that's living in Europe asked me seriously if I had super overheated.

So… Yesterday and today, in similar weather again, I rode in a 'cross type LS skinsuit (so long sleeves, shorts, in that "roubaix" fabric), LS base layer, and a wind vest so I'd have some pockets. Yesterday that was a bit cool, especially when the sun went down. Today it was okay. Booties and my regular winter gloves (thinner Canaris which feel about the same thickness as my summer gloves but are somehow warm down to 25-30 deg F).

I went out in the afternoon so the shadows were getting long. The first ride I had to cut short as I'd run out of daylight if I did the full 2 hours I set out to do.

On the other hand I think that for 4 hours I'd have brought knee warmers in a pocket just in case. No idea how much energy I'd have for keeping my body warm on such a long ride (for me). Knickers maybe, for simplicity, but the shorts would have been cold after 2-3 hours.

I did see much more heavily dressed riders but they tended to be older and realistically not burning as much energy / generating as much heat. One couple on a tandem did look a bit red faced.

I did three days in a row. I do the same loop, I call it the Quarry Road Loop, it's about the only loop I do when I train. It's about 15 miles and change.

I felt fresh, good, and fatigued on the three respective days.

I did 16.5, 16.6, and 16.7 mph. Wind was most powerful on Day 1, least on Day 2.

Pretty fatigued today after two all nighters looking after a sick Junior, but somehow rode faster than the other two days.

No idea what my racing will look like for 2015, no idea on much of anything, so I'm sort of training in limbo. I figure if I'm lighter and have some hours on my legs then I'll have something to work with whatever my schedule.

Usual Saturday. Ride to River Ride, do River Ride, ride home. 96 miles and just over 5 hours. Rode the Venge today, so far, digging the bike.

Also, linked up with @UmneyDurak for the start of the ride and showed him some 20 miles of frigid cold American River Bike Trail.

Was good riding with you and your friend today. It warmed up on the way back. lol.

Spent the rest of the day on flat track at Prairie City. That counts as cross training, right? lol. Legs are hurting a lot now.

2 hours yesterday on a grey December day. ~45 degrees. And since we are talking about it, I had a long sleeve base layer, ss baselayer, ss jersey, arm warmers and wind jacket with leg warmers. Neoprene booties with wool socks.

Bike Ride Profile | I went outside and played bikes today near Monclova | Times and Records | Strava

I hate being cold but dont mind riding down to about ~35 and sunny. Any colder and I'm probably staying inside unless it is super calm and sunny. The one thing I worry about the most is my feet. Once they get cold im done. Being diabetic, once they start to get cold the only thing im worried about is getting home. Ive never had any issues, but at the same time I don't need to do harm because I wanted to ride bikes.

Coldest ride I did last year it was ~18 when I left the house and maybe warmed up to about 20. I had like 14 layers on.

Have you tried hand warmers underneath your booties? I use them under 40 degrees.

One thing I'm considering is a "sunscreen base layer", a long sleeve base layer meant to be a UV protection layer.

A good friend (he brought Bethel up a level about 10 years ago using his own resources/knowledge/time and helped run the races until he moved away) said that he's starting to ride with such a base layer. He's actually chilly on the cooler days, comfortable on the hot days. He had some skin things removed and so it made him more aware of skin damage, UV rays, stuff like that.

I think my three days of training has messed up my dieting. I've been plateaued on weight, and I know I want to lose at least 10 more pounds. Therefore it's back to dieting hard and worry about riding when opportunity presents itself.

I just bought some electric sole heater things. I haven't tried them yet but one of my teammates swears by his. I bought mine in case I feel the need to ride/race in cold weather. For me my feet start to fade in the 28-30 degree range, even in races. By 20 degrees I'm pretty much done.

I do. I found the insole kind that I use plus a hand warmer on the top of my foot. That's been good for about 3-3.5 hours (the longest I will typically ride in the winter outside if it's an especially nice day)

Step 1: Buy Pearl Izumi Elite Barrier shoe covers
Step 2: Smartwool

That'll keep you solid for 4-5hrs around 25-30 degrees. This is coming from a dude whose toes turn black if I look at ice cream for too long.
