Anyone have experience with ICE Toolz? They are considerably cheaper than comparable Park tools. Is this a case of "you get what you pay for"?

I bought a "4th hand" tool from icyclesusa and I've been satisfied with the tool.

However, I wouldn't trust ICE Toolz for heavier duty applications -- crank puller, chain whip, etc. -- because, for one, they take pride in being a Park knock-off and also because the name sounds sleazy.

Home mechanic? Fine. Heavy duty shop use? No thanks.

Sleazy name? Most names in cycling are sleazy... it just depends on your perspective.

I have several tools from Ice Toolz and am happy with them, as a home mechanic.

I looked up ICE Toolz and MTBR had a review of their cable cutter. The average of two comments was 1 out of 5. That's not exactly high praise.

Park makes many nice tools. However, some of their tools are in need of some reengineering. Shop smart.

Right, not all of Park's tools are that sturdy. For example, their double ended chrome plated cone wrenches are pretty flimsy but their single size, black with blue handle cone wrenches are vastly better.

the Ice Toolz headset cup tool at least is USELESS
I was about to post a new thread about my frustrations with Ice Toolz this week, but I'll piggy back onto this one.

their headset cup removal "rocket" is USELESS. ABSOLUTELY USELESS. it "looks" like the real deal but I have wasted hours and hundreds of whacks at my pressed HS cups on several frames, tilting the tool to various angles trying to get some bite. I've spread and even filed the blades....and NOTHING. 97/100 times the cups don't even move.

in utter frustration last night I borrowed a friends Park Tool rocket and Bang Bang, 2 blows and the cups were out.

(Now on the other hand, I do like the Ice Toolz 15mm and whatever the other side is, the box wrench side for removing BB spindle nuts. THAT is a handy must have tool (but then it's kind of hard to screw up a basic wrench. The combination though of pedal wrench and BB nut tool in one smallish package is handy.)

ICE Toolz does have one tool that is hands down the best
The best version out there and at the best price. Ice Toolz Chain Master I bought mine for under $10.00 its free shipping. No other company makes one as good. I even did a video on it check it out.

I can't say much about the other tools in their lineup for lack of experience with them, but I am a fan of their spoke wrenches. They fit the nipple securely, and the design is easy on the wrist.
Also, they allow me to grip the spoke close to the rim with a twist resist tool.
The majority of the wheels I build use alloy nipples, and rounding is not a problem with these wrenches.

I have the 14/15mm socket/pedal combo wrench and I freaking love it. You only need this and a crank removal tool to get square tapers off, no messing with 3-4 different wrenches and sockets. However, after years of abuse, its toast. And the tool, though a great design, is not very tough. I wish somebody made a better quality version of the same tool design.

Tried to warranty a multi tool that had some bits rusting. "Well rust never sleeps; you should have oiled our tool all the time." No warranty.

That single cone tool(15mm) is sturdy enough that some folks use it as a thin pedal wrench for certain pedals - MKS EZY.

Does the production come with paperwork stating that it is necessary to keep the surfaces well oiled?
If not, then that is poor business.

Here's the full unedited exchange I had with Park Tools; names are omitted to protect the innocent
This communication was back in July of 2015:

Me to Parktools:
"Good day, I've been very happy with all of my Park Tools. They're well made and thoughtfully designed. I do have an issue with my IB-1 multi tool. Both sides(screwdriver & 6mm allen) are rusting. I can send a photo if you'd like. Is it possible to warranty this tool? Thanks, E."

Parktools to me:
"Good Morning E,

Thank you for using our products and your inquiry.

Sorry to hear that your IB-1 Rescue tool has begun to rust, and my answer is: RUST NEVER SLEEPS!

Rust forms on all our tools with steel components whenever water molecules contact metal on tools left in packs/tool boxes.

Our limited warranty covers defects and workmanship…neglect is not covered by the warranty.

You are welcome to return it where purchased for warranty consideration and we suggest a little light oil/steel wool to remove/prevent corrosion..

All our metal products have some type of finish to prevent corrosion but again…rust never sleeps.

Keeping them dry helps, and we suggest caring for your tools as well as your bike…wiping all wrenches down with a light oil, for an extra level of protection from moisture.

Remember, rust never sleeps, and if one molecule of water vapor finds its way thru the porosity of the finish, corrosion will begin to form.

Please call me at the number below if you have any questions.

Thanks again,
M"

Has anyone actually got a warranty replacement from Parktools? Or Pedro's? Through the parent company;
not distributor/seller(REI, Nashbar, LBS, etc.). Have never had an issue getting warranty on Snap-on and Craftsman/Sears common hand tools. Screwdrivers, ratchets, etc.

With that CS I'm glad i dont feel cornered to there tools. Aside from cassette sockets and bb sockets bought out of component proprietary design, I've been thankful the tools i use for auto related parts are able to be used.
