bike chains?
My bike shop was out of stock on my usual ultegra chain for my 6600 9 speed drivechain, so they sold me a deore xl 9 speed chain and said no problem I could use it. Now I am thinking they were to lazy to order one so just pasted me what they had in stock? Question is, is there a difference as one is a road bike chain and the other is mountian bike?

It's probably a 105 or Tiagra level chain but 9-speed is 9-speed. The only difference is weight and shine.

that one is listed as deore/ultegra. i was looking at DA chains the other day and saw a lot of them were labeled as XTR/DA so i think they are the same.

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!
Shimano cassettes and chains for the same "speed" are completely interchangable as the cog spacing and chain dimensions are identical. The only thing that separates road and MTB cassettes is the tooth range as MTB cassettes are available with larger largest cogs.
So calling a chain "Ultegra" or "Deore" is just marketing-speak. Functionally they are identical.

I guess it is. Equating Shimano road and their corresponding MTB group is always fun. DA =XTR, Ultegra = XT, 105 = LX, etc.
However, in my posting above I just used Ultegra and Deore as typical group names. I didn't mean to imply they were at the same level.
