Drop handle bars w/ Quill Stem
im looking at these handle bars
https://www.ebay.com/itm/EIGHTHINCH-T...ht_2805wt_1185
to go on my quill bike stem that looks like this one
https://www.bikepro.com/products/stem...li_xa_stem.jpg
would i be able to to "thread" the whole thing through the stem? i know that kinda sounds confusing but aperently it the only way you can change the handle bars with those stems this guys does it here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKRlQq5dw-Q
it seems like the drop down might have to many sharp turns.
sorry for all the links
Thanks!

Yes, the bar will thread through, if you know how. (assuming, of course. the bar OD and stem ID match)
That stem was made for drop bars and is cut away a bit at the bottom. That provides for a small radius curve to pass as long as the inside of the curve is oriented to the narrower section. Thread it in sections and as the curve direction changes, rotate the bar so it's right for the next section.

Be aware that there are several different standards. 26.0 (ln the bars to which you linked) is one of them. But 25.4 is very common too, and if you go looking for vintage stuff on Ebay you might find a couple of oddball sizes as well. So you'll want to verify that the combo you buy will work together.

If the stem u have right now is 26 mm standard clamp then yes u can put the yellow one w/o any problem.
No idea if the stem u have is 25.4 or a 26 mm clamp stem, u need to find out yourself using a caliper. If what u have is 25.4 i wouldn't try to put a 26 mm handlebar in there, specially because the stem you have doesnt look like a super duper one at all, and who knows what could happens if you force it too much.

I have a few of these stems in use and I can triple check but I am certain they are all 25.4 clamps. so the origin 8 bars you posted a link to will not work. you need a bar with a 25.4 clamp area

these stems were mainly intended for flat to 2 to 3" rise bars so you need to be careful threading drop bars on to them. it has been my experience that most Anotomic bars will not fit

i measured my current bars with a measuring tape the converted it then divided it by pi. (somthing i found on the internet you can do if you dont have a caliper) and it came out to 27.05 so it obvously a aproximite measurement but its closer to 26 than 25

You could also measure it with Skittles and multiply the result by 1000. The number you get won't be any closer to reality than the one you already have, but it'll still be closer to 26 than 25. If that makes you feel better.

That stem looks like a Cinelli and should fit your drop bars. It will, however, be a tight fit and will require a bit of twisting and jiggering as you go through the bends. Take out the rubber wedge and slip it back into place when you get the bars on. A little graphite or grease on the bars may help it go on easier.

Original link is to a Cinelli XA stem, which is 26.4mm standard. I have one of these in use and have just measured the bars OD to confirm. They will only work with Cinelli bars AFAIK. Revised link is more of a hybrid/early MTB quill as made by Kalloy, they are still available at Internet Bike Shops and still 25.4mm; is this quill of real importance to you because it will not fit the Origin 8 bars. If the bars are more important to you, and those do look attractive, suggest you budget for a new road quill (as fietsbob has suggested) more in keeping with the fixie fashion thing. I think the adjustable ones tend to be for 25.4mm bars.

If you already have that upright Kalloy stem, I think I can dig up a set of narrow 25.4 clamp area bars I'll send you for the cost of postage. unless you desperately want those gold track bars.

Yep, measure the diameter of the bar it came with, close to where the stem holds it.
