Which Pug is this?
I just picked this up for $25. I looked around online and it looks to be a mid to late 70s era. It came with a cottered steel crank, steel seatpost, and Atax stem, the rest had been striped long ago. I'm guessing its a standard U-08 or something mass produced, the serial # is B7 ****. Also I would like to know if I could just swap out the cottered spindle for a square taper with caged bearings while using the existing French cups? Does anyone know I can swap the loose headset bearings for caged bearings as well?
I apologize in advance for my phone focusing on the background instead of the frame. I didn't notice until I linked the pics here.
Thanks

You will definitely need different cups to use the square taper spindle. I did this on my U08 and used a new French thread cup and bearings set. It works great.

greg3rd48: I don't think you need new cups - mine is a bit older than the frame shown but I used my original cups with (I think) a 68mm spindle and its been fine.
Antieverything: not sure exactly what yours is but it doesn't have the Aztec style lugs so its later 70s; but it does have nice lugs so not one of the internally brazed frames...no chrome on the fork so possibly the successor to the AO-8?

Might be tough finding the Simplex shifter for that frame. It's an odd one in that it has a band clamp with a left shifter and a hole on the right side that wraps the existing braze-on, and a separate shifter for the right side to fit on that braze-on.

Antieverything-
It looks like a P 10 or PA 10. Those had sportier geometry than the UO 8/AO 8 designs and either the stamped rear dropouts like yours or forged Simplexes. Frame is standard plain gauge Peugeot made hi-tensile tubing. It would have been standard with Normandy HF QR hubs with tubular rims and tires. They made a cool entry level club/racing bike.

Thanks guys! I'm still debating on how to build this frame. I wish I had gotten it a few years ago, before the rust on the chrome ️️crankset and pedals started flaking the chrome off. I might build it as a single speed so I don't have to deal with sourcing period parts or just hang this on the wall next to the PH-6 which is giving me fits locating a decently priced seatpost. It was a little on the big side in terms of sizing but I figured, french bike-french fit right? The price couldn't be turned down though.
Anyone have a opinion on value? Worth restoring or just build it/hang it? Whatever the value it'll just stay in the collection as I am unwilling to build to sell anymore.

My thoughts exactly! I was tossing the idea to build both Pugs into singles that share the same wheelset. There's a Sun wheelset on the Bay that would look nice! Might even keep the steel cottered crankset on this one. Too bad the Mafac brakes are missing.
