I ride there every day too regardless of weather and really enjoyed the snowpocalypse... was bombing around in the snow with my girlfriend who has since become my wife.

I think she will do fine when she moves here... she has some mad skills and fenders too.

I need a slightly longer and a little more angled stem for it to fit perfect. It's just a tiny bit low. The wierd thing is that the geometry has me using muscles I don't normally use. I am not having muscle soreness, but I can definitely feel the effort in different areas from my road bikes. The relaxed seat tube angle no doubt, the cranks are little further forward than what I am used to.,,,,BD

The wheels from this beast bolt right on. I am going to try a little monstercrossing with it, haha. Wish me luck!

BikeDude,
I love your Sierra! I am doing a build almost like yours but with an 85 Schwinn Cimarron. Do you know what the headset size is being used on your build? I have the original fork.

Thanks!

Here's another Sierra for the thread. It's not mine - I saw it outside the grocery and snapped a pic. Turns out it belongs to an acquaintance.

I just picked up a set of Planet Bike Cascadias from LL Bean of all places. $39 with free shipping...

Can't speak for the 85, but my 87 High Sierra has a 27mm crown race.

Love that paint scheme, I was tempted to grab an identical frame set that was on eBay recently...

Here is my 1998 Klein Mantra in Koi Blue. We moved to Florida 6-years ago and unfortunately she has been a road bike ever since!

Were they top dog at one point (seller's asking a pretty penny)?

The Klein Mantra was the cat's meow in the mid 90's. It was known as an URT (Unified Rear Triangle) design and Gary Fisher - Joshua and Trek had an URT as well although not as popular. This one was not the top model and I believe it came with STX componts. The Mantra Race model was an XT bike and the Pro model was an XTR bike. They are extremely light for a mountain bike. Mine weighs under 27 pounds. Right before the buy-out by Trek, they also made a Carbon Fiber version. I have seen these go as low as $400 and I have seen race and pro models over $1K. I had a fame only 1998 pro that I sold last year on eBay for $1K. When new the top frame was ~$2,499.

My Aunt has a very old Gary Fisher mountain bike(she says she got it in the late 80s). I believe it's a hardtail/non suspension fork. I've yet to see it. Does anyone have an idea of what I might find, what components were common at the time? I am basically clueless when it comes to old MTBs.

1994 Trek 8000

This bike climbs like nothing I have ever ridden,
I wish I knew how much it weighed... Bikepedia says 25.2 but I am not sure which frame that is talking about nor what size mine is. My measurement from center spindle to top of seat post does not match what bikepedia says. anyone know from where to where I should measure?

The 8000 is a rocket and the faster you go the better it gets... 25 pounds seems to be about right for weight which is pretty decent for a mid nineties mtb with a suspension fork.

here is my mid 90s(?) Marin Bear valley. Got it in a trade for my 2005 Haro V3 from my mechanic. My Haro was getting too small for me and he had this Marin that was a natural fit. He bought it off the original owner who wanted to see what the deal with it was and sold it for $30. I have all the original parts for this bike (fork, stem, bars, shifters, derailleurs, and headset). I replaced the fork, bars/stem and I am running it 1x7. My dad has probably put more miles on this bike than anyone else. I love this bike.

I have been enjoying the long way home this past week as the weather has been glorious and have been feeling well enough to ride the mountain bikes more... this is my 2001 Rocky Mountain Blizzard which is rigged for riding the single track on my route home.

Forgive the less than crisp pictures... it was getting dark when I took these and will have to go back and get some better shots.

Frame is 725 Reynolds and is probably one of the nicest steel hard tails ever made.

Depending on tyres the bike curbs out between 24 and 27 pounds... these Kenda Nevegals are the big boots while the uber light folding XC tyres will drop the weight down to 24 and change.

Slapped some Specialized Team tyres on my Moulden so I could take it on more challenging terrain... for 2.0 knobbies they have a pretty good rollout on the street and are much lighter than the Schwalbes.

Thanks I love it! I just got a 93 Trek 8000 for 90$ but the components are not as nice as my 94 and it is a little larger. I am going to work on it over the winter to get it nice too.

1993 Miyata Elevation 2000 in Fatal Black
Usually running Tom Slicks, but was riding a Rails-to-Trails MUP, Bizz Johnson in Susanville, Ca. So I put some Ritchey Zmax Evolution's on and hit the trail. The bike is nice, 26 lbs or so, it is usually my commuter. I sized it like a road bike, and it is almost the same dimensions as my road bike.

Gonna try and find my camera before I head to work, and take some pics of the Raleigh Obsession (Technium low end) I found on Saturday for $9.76. hehe. It needs shifters and we have a cheap set at work that will probably do the trick. It's a 91 so at least it doesn't have twist shifters as OE. I had some Tioga Psycho skinwalls I threw on, and the handlebar got replaced too. The ends were bent downward about a 1/4 inch or more. There seems to be no fork damage, so maybe it was a freak occurrence?,,,,BD

It's bassboat silver, with multicolor graphics. So VERY early 90's
