Aladies Raleigh Ti english cruiser bike with fat seat. Has flat tires and rusty chain. For trade of a six pack of Corona or Guiness.

I'm there if he ever calls me back. Finally one in my neighborhood.:)

Well, it's close enough to me, too. I'd of made a grab for it myself, but old 3 speeds don't really turn my crank - so to speak. :)

Can anyone tell what kind of bike that is? If it's mechanically sound, I'd probably be willing to fork over $15 for it.

Turns out he also had a Raleigh Prestige Gran Compe with Suntour Superbe that he let me have for a couple more sixers of Corona. Will post a picture soon.

Sweet! You've got to like the "Oh, I've also got this other bike" kind of deals. Congrats.

Damn! I had to pay two 12-packs for my Peugeot Caravan -- I wuz robbed!

cuda2k 06-15-06 08:03 AM

I'd happily trade a couple 6'ers of Corona for a Superbe group let alone a full bike equipped with it!

Couple of 6'ers... I'd be willing to splurge and get him a couple cases for the Superbe group, considering 90% of the late 70's Richard Sachs I'm rebuilding had Superbe on it, and finding functional parts at a decent price has been a challenge. And he could keep the frame!

So, do I get a Finder's Fee? I figure I'm deserving of at least a 6 pack, myself.....:D

I guess this could be good, or nothing at all. :D I intend to go look at it to find out. How old could an aluminum Raleigh be?

luker 06-15-06 09:38 PM

Aluminum raleighs are the Technium line - late 80s through the 90s.

Aluminum English Raleighs are non-existant; this bike more than likely has a Reynolds decal on it, and the owner thinks Reynolds = Aluminum. Au contraire! Probably a really good deal; jump to it and go look!

Correction, it is a Raleigh Prestige Gran Sport. Raleigh 555sl frame and fork with cutout lugs. Superbe front and back with dt shifters. Aero Grand Comp brakes. Aerox? crank and throw away wheels. A bit neglected but doesn't appear worn or abused.

Technically bigbossman, you didn't post till 10:24 p.m. By that time I had already called and was waiting a reply. Now if the guy in Walnut Creek that posted the Gitane TDF on CL today replies to my email and I get my hands on that puppy then I shall gladly buy a round.:D

I'm new to Classics/Vintage, so don't shoot the messenger if these prices are too high (I suspect most are). I just have never seen so much vintage Italian on CL at the same time. All from the same seller, I think it may be a local shop but it isn't mentioned. YMMV.

Well - except for that Nishiki towards the end. It's a solid enough bike, but sort of sticks out in that herd....:)

BobHufford 06-16-06 08:23 PM

That Paramount looks like a mid/late '70s model (Sprint frame option, Nervex lugs and fork crown) that was redone around '83/'84 with braze-ons added (or removed in the case of the rerouting via the through-the-top-tube cable guides) and the current decals used. That or they built it up using old stock lugs (though I'm not sure they would have done that in that time period).

Actually I was pretty fond of that one. :D Definitely the oddball of the group. Well, except for that crazy recumbent. :p

Hrm, this bike from the Toronto CL is very interesting because it is in such great shape for an older bike in this city----our winter tends to ruin older rides. Can anyone provide some insight into the make/year of this bike from the description and pictures? Thanks.
