Technically, pavement on a hill could be flat couldn't it?
:D

luker 01-27-06 09:17 AM

wow. if he was turning a 56x11 he was spinning at 122 rpm. If he was turning a more reasonable 53x13 he was turning 155 rpm. Without breaking a sweat!

There's an addage: The older I get, the faster I went.

I think he forgot to mention the spinnaker sail and the 49MPH tailwind.

I think it was a flat section of road at the bottom of a really nice hill. ;-)

Okay, this is a scam, I think, but the vendor is a good guy. 7215222171 is a very nice masi that sold about a month ago. It has recently been offered, twice, in different one day auctions, by different sellers, in England. Now the same pictures show up as being sold by ssssssspeedster from Italy. This sale has all of the marks of a genuine one, but if you are thinking of bidding check it out well...

luker 01-28-06 01:03 PM

And this looks like complete madness. Yeah, it is NOS, but $240 for a nuovo record rear? 7213574072 ...

AGuinness 01-28-06 03:00 PM

Jesus! I think you're right luker, 7215217935 has to be a scam. It's the exact same bike, and the seller has a feedback score of only 11. Though they've been a member for over a year... I don't know.

Maybe they actually have the bikes, but no camera?

Any guess as to what bar tape that is? It looks pretty :D

luker 01-28-06 03:44 PM

I like the seat. That is what keeps reminding me (for sure) that the pictures are the same...

Dude must be near dead, then.

So *that* is the fork of death! I've never seen one before - thanks!

lotek 01-29-06 09:58 AM

It may be a death fork, but I've always seen them full chrome
and that isn't where they broke.
The real death fork broke where the steerer tube joined the forks (or slightly
above) not high on the threads. That kind of damage that high up makes me
think of some very heavy handed attempts to remove a stuck seatpost.

The death fork looked like this:

http://www.classicrendezvous.com/ima...t%20fork-2.JPG

You see the obvious problem? the attachment of the steerer tube to the
solid cast fork. . I think the very early cast forks didn't even have the 2
rivets (or whatever those are) and were just press fit together.

7215227333 — Specialized Allez Aero by San Rensho, Complete Dura-Ace AX; 57 cm.

"This the kind of bike you don't want to stop at just shaving your legs -- go whole hog: head, eyebrows, arms. Hell, go naked, with one of those crazy huge aero helmets as your only protection."

luker 01-29-06 07:45 PM

Trek fans - Are you looking for a distinctive and different Trek to set yourself apart on the Sunday vintage ride? Then check out 7213735644, closes Jan-22-06 19:30:00 PST, and is currently at about $72. It is a 1978 TX500 (third year of Trek's existence), and it looks to be mostly original (I am pretty sure that the crank is not original). Can't judge the quality of the bike, but it looks good in those crappy pictures.

kurremkarm 01-30-06 12:44 AM

Holy crap. Too big for me though.

A Royce Union (!) classic bike "just like Schwinn Paramount"!

To make matters worse, they are representing an early seventies bike as an early sixties one, and the starting bid is $199!!

This one is going on my watch list, if only for the amusement value.......

Noah Scape 01-30-06 06:44 PM
