Well, if all goes well tomorrow, I will not only have the chrome Voyageur, but also a Super Le Tour 12.2. I'm going to splurge a bit, and pay $75. Still reasonable in my eyes. I seem to be finding some decent Schwinns the last 6 months or so. Maybe I will be blessed with a Paramount someday? I'm not holding my breath though, hehe.,,,,BD
Apparently... I did a search on this forum and found out it's a recalled Peugeot that they destroyed either because it was so dangerous or because it was kinda dangerous and they didn't want the liability. So it's not that the bike is so great, although apparently it was very light for its time... it's that these were so bad they destroyed all of them.

Well, I got the thing. I'll post photos later this evening. This one has the same very* faded red paint that divineandbright had, but I'm not seeing any evidence it was a Peugeot. It has a "Falcon" derailleur and nothing else has writing on it that I've found. It has no quick release wheel, but it does have cheater brakes.

Oh, and yeah, it is* Galaxie, not Galaxy.

Edit: No it's not. The guy wrote "Galaxie" in the email, so when I went to take photos of it, it I saw it was a Galaxy*. I did't notice the spelling difference when I looked at the bike, because I was struck by the paint fading. Oh well. $8, I'll donate it. It was bad luck the guy misspelled Galaxy... I just didn't want it to get tossed if it was the Galaxie. I would have had to go out there regardless, it's just that I hauled the thing home.

Shall we move this to numbskill of the day?

Falcon Derailler, eh? That smacks of a Galaxy. I have one Galaxy, and I only got it because it was free. It also has a Falcon Derailleur, and steel handlebars, and even chrome steel brake levers! Well, it did do me "some" good. It lost a cable housing stop that got brazed onto the 74 SS.,,,,BD

Yah, well just remember I went and got the thing in case one of you* guys wanted it. I'm just learning about bikes.... so go ahead and laugh, but just hide it from me!

In my defense, the guy did write "galaxie" and he put it in my car for me, so I really didn't look at it when I got there.

Nah, it's okay. If it's in good enough condition to ride, you might make a small profit selling it? $8 isn't a bad price for it really. Air up the tires, put some new $4.23 Wal mart cables on it, and sell it for $25.,,,,BD

Right you are! I had a '67 Galaxie 500 2-door hardtop w/ a 390 V8. It was a fun car, but gas was cheap then.

Not that I need another project, but saw this on CL last night for $10, was hoping the Brooks was in decent shape, it's not, but the bike does have a rear dynohub.

YES... I had those on my 1982 Maruishi MTB, 50-40-30. Thanks... never thought i'd see those again

Cool! How about a photo of your 11.8 (or a link if it's already been posted)?

Here it is, bent fork and all. It will probably weigh as much as the 12.2 with the replacement fork, but oh well. Trying to find a chrome fork for a 25 inch Chrome Voyageur is more hassle then I want to deal with, lol.,,,,,BD

It's down to the bare frame right now.

Ouch! How about a Tange fork... cheap and light enough?
https://aebike.com/page.cfm?PageID=30...and=416&type=T

Darn, I was hoping you had a 23" frame that you might be willing to sell or trade. BTW, I just finished applying new Velographics decals to my chrome 25" frame and let me tell you, Mike nailed it! They are sweet and well worth $60. Photos to come if the thunderstorms ever stop.

Unbelievable! I aired up the tires, and rode it to the end of the street. It's all still in adjustment. Okay the brake cables are a little loose, aren't they always though? It was quite a different story than most old bikes I find. It shifted smoothly, and all the bearings are tight. It's going to get the full deal like all my keepers, so don't worry I will start commuting on it or anything right off the bat. My wife bought me a TS-2 this last week, so this may be my first wheel build attempt. It doesn't seem to need it really, but I'd like at least one vintage bike with stainless spokes.,,,,,BD

The decals are going to be my next purchase I believe. I want to get the downtube decals installed before I string the shifter cables.

A 20 something coworker was talking about commuting 10 miles to work but needed a road bike. I acquired a MTB from freecycle, cleaned it up, and sold it for funds. That paid for this Lotus touring bike. With a few extra parts (Suntour RD and power shifters, some cable) and a lot of cleaning it's a beauty. The Lotus is
an interesting make. Columbus tubing, 26 lbs with rack, 7 speed Sachs freewheel and chain; chrome fork tips and stays. Super low front granny ring - 24 teeth; 30 tooth first gear. It had SPDs but I swapped for Looks because he bought Look only road shoes.

Of course, I'll take it on a shakedown commute in on Monday.

I know for a fact that Letour 12.2 is a sweet machine. I've got a twin of it. Same size, color, every thing. That old Shimano 600 stuff from that era shifts SMOOTH! OF all the bikes I own, my 12.2 is the smoothest shifting friction shifter I own. I put a Belt leather saddle and some old randonnuer bars from a Continental on mine. You'll really enjoy yours.

MY FIRST DROP OFF

My neighbors rang my doorbell and dropped off a male/female set of bikes rescued from another neighbor. They're old Huffys in excellent condition. Nothing special but solid; the Viscount saddles are nice My first!
The female one will go to the young woman at work who needs an upright and wants something economical. I'm thinking of selling off the male huffy quickly but am considering swapping out that saddle!
