One of the absolute worst things about Ebay is when the new buyer feels compelled to outbid everyone in small increments, so that there are 30 bids from 3 or 4 bidders on an item that should be cheap.
Even worse it two newbies bidding against each other. Sadly, that never happens when I am selling.

When I sell, it's too annoying to get all the bids in the last few seconds, so I often offer discounted or free shipping if the winning bid is placed more than 24 hours before auction end. That way, I bone the "snipers," which makes me happy, because such last minute bidders dishonor real snipers.

You should consider the distinct possibility that this is actually a shill bidder(s) acting to stimulate buyer interest and drive the price up.

most of the suff I sell gets about 20 to 50% of the selling price in the last 2 minutes. thank you snipers. I wish there was a way to kick back the time remaining , 10 seconts to go snipers bid it up and then wait theres an extra minute so keep on biding

I sold a 1978 22.5" Trek TX-500 Ishiwata 022 frame for $331.00
I was completely floored. Two bidders w/ a total of 16 feedback between them. The paint had plenty of scratches and while in good shape, it was a rider not a museum piece. The paint was a bit of an odd color for a Trek kind of mint green think mid 60's GM paint color so maybe that had something to do with it.

I'm just trying to avoid the newbies who have to nick away at you a dollar at a time until they finally best your bid. I don't give them the chance. I suspect most snipers operate on the same theory.

I use esnipe.com for all my ebaying other than buy-it-now. It's best to look at the item, decide on a price, and never look at the listing again; otherwise I'm often tempted to raise my snipe amount.

Actually, that is how it is done on the Overstock.com auction site. If bids are placed in the last 30 secs or so, additional time (I think 5 minutes) is added to the clock. I, as a buyer, never did like that deal!

There unfortunately is no logical reason not to lay in wait and snipe, and don't watch the auctions officially, another ebay member can piggyback your good searching andsnipe what you "found" for them, as what you watch is "public".
We live in so much danger.

try it. look up a member, someone who buys consistantly, and without too much clicking you can see through their profile and a bit beyond what they are watching. Once I found out about that, all the auctions I track I do by hand or let the sniping software keep tabs for me.
The ebay watch list is useful but not private.
You can also see how many are watching a particular item, a way to see if it is going to be "hot".
Just another reason to snipe.

I used to do something like this through the "search by bidder" feature, but now you can only see the ended auctions that a person bid on. I miss being able to do that. It saved me a lot of work.

Let me see if I have this right, ebay gets paid to list the item, ebay gets paid when the item is sold, paypal gets paid when the item is purchased, credit card company, that paypal is charged to, gets paid, the shipping company gets paid, and the snipe company gets paid. Anybody else? Oh yeah, the poor shnook who lists the item gets whats left.
I only sell on Craigslist. I keep all the money.

Yes, but you don't get the market exposure that ebay provides. Nobody has the time to search craiglist for all the cities all over the country. If you get what you want for your item great, but you will never benefit from a couple crazy guys getting into a bidding war over your item and paying five times what you wanted for it.

Not as clever, but they respect your search privacy:

What sniping service/software are you using? It doesn't appear the info you refer to is available through normal eBay channels. At least I couldn't find it either. Is it a Firefox Extension by any chance?
