Frame ID : Cinelli/Windsor/Other?
On holiday recently I wandered into the back of a bike shop an ended up purchasing a old frame hanging in the rafters for quite the deal. The owner claimed it was an old Cinelli he had always been intending to build up... I have a feeling this is not actually the case, but am not sure what ir could be...
The info :
It's an older frame, 58 branded into the BB, but measures 57 ctc both top and seat tubes.
The paint is grey (much has been repainted/touched up) chromed lugs.
It has the old style columbus tube decal at the top of the seat tube, no other decals. No holes for mounting a headbadge...
Plain and clean lugs on the frame w/ 3 hole cut outs on most. The fork crown is slightly sloping and has a cut out on the side that is a straight line though in the center a larger hole has also been cut out, this is outlined in blue paint.
Campagnolo drop out's...
On the downtube there are watercage mounts and on top of the BB are brazed cable guides...
And lastly the seatstays are fastbacks and on the left side of the seat cluster is the serial number of 6084.
Unfortunatly I can't host the pictures anywhere to attach... but I can e-mail them if necessary...
Thanks.

thanks for the words, that's what I had been assuming it was... also the bottom bracket shell has a circle of hole cut outs with another hole cut out in the center of the circle, is this common to windsors as well?

No, not common to Windsor Pros, but from the rest of your description it doesn't support this being a Cinelli. The forkcrown also sounds unlike the common semi-sloping Windsor...pics would help a LOT. Check out flckr.com, it's pretty user-friendly, or you could scale them down to tiny size and attach them to this thread. The seatpost diameter is usually a very strong clue: what's yours? My guess is you got either an uncommon Windsor/Carabela or a Raysport, (tho many Raysports were 531, not Columbus).

Columbus tubing eliminates Raysport as a possibility. Cutout as described in BB also wrong for Raysport.

Windsors are not terrible, but no Cinelli. I've had a few, always found the ride a little dead.

Well, hush my mouth! I guess I have never seen a LATE Windsor Pro, cause that BB treatment is new to me, but you have nailed it...seems like the later ones have much nicer detailing/finish than the early '70s stuff that I've seen, that lugwork and blue paint highlighting looks downright CLEAN! Edit: ahha, I re-read and realize this has been *re-painted*, that explains the high-quality detailing! Still, shows you how good a Windsor Pro can look if you sweat the details.

thanks alot for the help... looking at your pics there i'd have to say that it's definatly the same bike that you're riding ideally the sme colours too w/ the grey and blue highlights. thanks alot! i still asssume at $80 can. for the frameset I got a smoking deal and I figure now I'll work on restoring it up to a beauty like yours and enjoy riding it. hopefully it's not too dead feeling... we'll see.
