Just finished a refresh of my 1985 Merckx Team Panasonic. 10 speed Campag Chorus groupset, Koolstop brake pads and 28c tyres with space for 30c if desired. Waxed the painted sections of the frame and lightly polished the chrome and the 38 year old frame buffed up nicely.

So some Tiagra triple on the Bruce Gordon. gugie expect to see this bike this winter after I get back to the states, this thing needs some center pulls after almost a $1000 of boutique brakes to find a set that only sorta work in the back.

He's got plenty of tape. It's just that it's all on the top tube.

You probably saved me some money. I was going to try PAUL's with the sti's but going to go linear with travel agents next. Nice setup.

I guess I can add some in again.

This was a winter pickup and has been identified as a mid 80's frame.

Merckx Corsa 01

This one was picked up as a NOS framese and built up with C-Record 8-speed. Another 80's era frameset.

Motta Personal 2001 R

Another winter local find. Had an Exage build on it but the frame was so nice looking I rebuilt with a mix of Dura Ace and Ultegra. Really nice rider now and a big weight savings.

What wheels are you running on your Merckx?

They are handbuilt tubulars with White Industry hubs and I forgot who built the rims. By coincidence I just now got done taking those off and putting on some early Campagnolo Eurus clinchers. This change added 1 lb 3 ozs to the bike but I'm curiuos to see how it feels with these wheels on it. Those tubulars are light and nice but never really blow me away for feel while on the road.

Bella and Rio Grande

I wanted a drop-bar, step-through road bike with brifters and clipless pedals, so I built my own, and am loving riding her.

daviddavieboy 07-29-23 02:37 AM

I put this bike in another thread before but never this on. I don't think it's not that old to be vintage (2002) but the style is all classic.

1984 Schwinn Peloton RestoMod

Picked up this iconic frame for next to nothing as it had a small dent and the paint was in bad shape. Ended up repainting the frame and updating. I love the results! The only things that are original are the head tube badge and the seat post cinching bolt.

That De Rosa looks nice! Is the WC sticker at the top tube original? It lloks alot like the one mostly seen on Kessels-Merckxes

cfernandez 08-01-23 06:06 PM

Love that candy red color on that Peloton!

The De Rosa is refinished by CyclArt, but the Super Prestige Trophy "Eddy Merckx" was originally on this 1984 frame.

Where did you get that stem set-up? What is it called?

No idea, the bike came that way. The stem telescopes fore-and-aft. A bolt fits into a series of pinholes on the underside to lock the stem into place. It seems like a nifty idea, but in practice I can't imagine needing to adjust that length...umm...ever? Yeah, that adjustment mechanism doesn't get much use.

Here's a closer shot:
