Nice job on the Raleigh step-through
I've done a couple or more of similar machines.
No profit in it but satisfying to do?
I think so.

Looks Great.
That looks almost exactly like my Mt St. Helens minus the color. Except of course, mine has the most garish stem ever made and yours has a black one (same headset with gaskets and everything, except I don't trust it and added an outer "seal" as well)! With the crankset and paint job on the Hood, it must have been a step above the Helens. I have been trying to peg a date to it, so I guess I'll call mine an 85 too, then. I thought it was an 85 or 86

The Volkscycle lives! Found this on Tuesday, and did what I could to leave original as possible. The only thing I cahnged was tires, grease, wrap, and cables/housings. It rides very nice, although I only took it up the street a while. It suffers from that 70's gearing, Even in Big/Small I am pedaling at a pretty good cadence. It's more for enjoyment than racing anyway, so I guess I will sit back and enjoy the ride.,,,,BD
The seller stated it was a 72, but I am thinking it's a little newer, with the DA stuff, and locking headset. It turned out nice IMHO, hehe.
BEFORE, sellers full size pic from the ad.

AFTER! Pedals will get rebuilt late tomorrow afternoon if I have time. Going out of town for a few hours.

You know, I don't think I ever posted my DL-1 to this thread.
As bought in September 08. These pics are from the night I bought it.

These are from last Friday.

What I've done to it:
. Lots of elbow grease to clean it up
. Replaced shift cable
. Replaced touring bag with NOS duplicate
. Replaced leather seal in Britannialloy pump
. Added Wald baskets front and back
. Replaced tires with Schwalbe Delta Cruisers

English trekking bike from the Eisenhower era. First two photos are "before" & last two photos are "after". Click on photos to enlarge. The last two photos are of a similar bike in excellent original condition.

Still a work in progress. The '62 Peugeot UO8 that I picked up a while back. The decals are just mocked up right now til I decide on exactly what I want.

Cheapo bike I got for free:

I think I'm going to put some black fenders on it. Anyone have a taillight for a generator they want to donate?

nothing special, but built up with parts on hand as a beater. I swapped the seat out for a more comfy bontrager. I'm probably going to change it again for something thats cheap and tan/honey. I also would like to find a integrated clamp seat post, but I think it has something like a 25.8 in there.

Dawes Galaxy before and long time after.
Had this old and scruffy Galaxy for a good while.
Finally decided to deal with it.
Before:

Painted it and decided that straight bars and a couple of racks would make a useful lightweight but sturdy town bike/heavy carrier.
Here is the result.
Not quite finished because I wanted a 3 speed, but 26" wheels look stupid so I fitted a pair of good quality Campy hubs/Rigida rims with 5 speed today and took it out for a ride.
The chain came off while I was out (but it was a 1/8th chain fixed as a SS and the clip was iffy!!)
But I still took some photos. See here:

Got a period 50s paint style, but I think it suits....

Needs, and will get, a Dawes decal on the seat-tube panel. Plus guards, a couple of racks and new chain
I like the red outers and the paint style suits it IMHO.
Opinions?

Thanks guys! The rims are mismatched, the rear is a Weinmann Concave and the front is a Mavic MA-2 with Campy Nuovo Tipo hubs.

I like to switch hand positions when I ride. This has worked out Ok for me. Used the type of shorter grips that are used on an MTB with "twist-grip" shifters if the ends of the extender bars.

These wheels won't stay on it so I'm leaving the brakes until I've got the other Wolber pair on.
Playing with the paint as well as parts.
I'm intending to darken the pale panels, and line it in gold.
I'm just painting a Bates in a similar way so the Galaxy is the model for it

What a nice machine, and quite an early one too.
I could do with a badge like yours on mine
