I have a Shogun 300. I will try and post the serial number later today. Where is the serial number on yours?

I wonder if there's enough Shogun owners to get a database going?

You guys and one other I know of on BF make less than 10.

Plus, some of their frames are nearly identical to other makes, right down to the serial numbers, pinstriping, and lugs.

you might be able to tell from the previous reply, but the serial # is stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket.

The OP's bicycle is a 1983, while Robbie Tunes' is a 1982 model.

Do you know why the 400 and the ChroMo 400 were so different?
My ChroMo 400 had no braze-ons whatsoever. Everything was bolt-on except rear brake cable guides.

No idea.
The 400 I have has rear brake cable guides, front and rear cable guides above the BB shell, RD guide on the chainstay, and bottle braze-ons on the downtube. The shifters are band mounted. Tubing is Tange Champion #2.

I have a Shogun I purchased new in I believe 1981, that I have upraded over the years. It has a sticker at the top of the seat tube Chrome Mollebendum with Double Butted across at a 45 degree angle. I think it is a 600 because the shifters, derailleurs, and brake levers are Shimano 600 arabesque parts. The serial number is M9J20794. Any info would be appreciated.

All I can tell you for sure is that he frame was manufactured in 1979. It may or may not be a 600 model. The model numbers established the relative position in the lineup and did not always correspond to the group. For instance, I have Shogun literature which lists the model 600 as being equipped with Shimano 105. It is even possible that Shogun may have used model names, rather than model numbers in the late 1970s. So far, I have only been able to obtain Shogun literature and/or ads as far back as 1983. BTW, does your bicycle have a Country of Origin decal?

T. Mar, 1979 is probably right. I just checked and yes at the base of the seat tube is a nice scrolly JAPAN decal. The shop where I purchased it had their sticker just above it and I never really noticed that the were two separate decals! I have changed the stem to Cinelli, bars are stock Alps road champiuon, headset is an alloy Stronglight Spidel (won't stay tight!), Stronglight seatpost with Selle Italia Flight Titanium seat. When I get it in picture taking condition, I will try to figure out how it is done. I think it is great that so many people have thought enough of these bikes to restore them. I oinly commute approximately 5 miles, but I really appreciate the smooth ride!

This is THE BEST riding bike I've ever tried- comfortable and retro cool. And I was just a mountain biker until about a month ago when i signed up for the MS 150 charity ride. A week before the big ride I found my 1982 Shogun (on craiglist of course)! Never thought 2 back to back 75mile rides would be as fun as they were -awesome rolling hills of columbia, mo!! so grateful to have the touring gearing so i could sit down on those climbs I'm addicted to the speed of road biking

oh yeah, does anybody know about the deore dyna drive pedals- the 1" interface doesn't allow for me to get normal 9/16"clipless pedals- bummer- do i have to change out the whole crankset or just the arm or what???? don't want to spoil the whole vintage thing, but cages are really annoying after having worn clipless shoes.

got2run, great looking bike! I am still here and still working on my 1979 Shogun. I will post pics soon, ready or not! These bikes are just flat-out great rides and they take commuting abuse with ease.
