OK, perhaps my best score ever. OK, its not vintage. Oh yeah, it is my size. Full DA, Merlin Ti frame, Quintana Roo Aerial. You bet I was in the car driving as soon as I saw this one. Conversation? "Is the bike still for sale?" "Yes" "I would like to come see it." "When?" "How about RIGHT NOW?"

Kit suggests it is an '87 Norco and today I added a 3rd chain ring, new chain, and an XT rear derailleur to handle the extra take up as although my daughter is a strong climber the bike had nearly adult gearing.
The front wheel is a 520 and the rear is 622... it is a Terry inspired design and Norco may have paid a license fee or re-branded a bike that was built for Terry as many were outsourced.
Frame is beautifully made with Tange Infinity db tubes and there is barely a mark on the bike and the bike has no visible wear.
My youngest daughter needs to grow two inches before she can ride it... her older sister said "nice bike, but I like what I have".
The bike will be waiting for her... these are not easy to come by.

One day, last week, I found this...

The next day I went back, and found an old Raleigh Record(56cm), the bike behind the little Sekine Mixte.

Now I gotta figure out what to do with them. Full pictures of both to begin with, for sure, and then probably off to Bicycles for Humanity.
And, I gotta go to the Dump again today. In Thunder Bay, bicycles flow to the Dump almost as fast as melted snow flows to Lake Superior.

Mr. Jawa, are you saying you want me to cast away my pristine Rene Herse touring bike at the dump?
Mr. Jawa:
Let's say I prefer that you do it.

And, no, I do not try to intimidate people into taking their bikes to the Dump. Come on. I much prefer that they drop them off in my back yard;-)

There's a pretty good dumpster near my house. Three dumpsters, actually. Not bike stuff; general purpose stuff being thrown away. The list of stuff I've taken from there goes beyond my memory, but includes working electronics, good cameras, valuable antiques, books, board games, clothes, building materials, whole bicycles, bicycle parts, and so on.
Yesterday I took a peek. Women's shoes. Not my thing. But I noticed an SPD cleat on the bottom of one. So in I went. Rummaged around down in the bottom of the dumpster until I had a pair of Diadora cycling shoes, apparently never worn. In my wife's size, of course (I would have taken them in any size).

My first saved from the dump find...
Taking one of my normal shortcuts through an alley, I see two bikes propped up against the industrial garbage bucket behind the mall. One's a run of the mill step-through Schwinn World Tourist, but in the same color and decals as my 2010 Schwinn Madison.
The other one is a smaller frame than i use, but looks like some very nice components. Its a Houdaille Custom with the strange powercrank set up. And it looks like all it needs are tires, chain and a good cleaning and greasing.
I had to "save" them! Pictures to follow.
New Problem: the wife just counted how many bikes I had the other day.... so I may have to sneek these in late at night.

I have yet to have seen a city where there were not deals to be found. In some towns, there are a lot more people looking, so the deals don't last long, but they are out there. When we take a vacation by car, I always carry a bike rack along. Every time I return, I come back stuffed with bike stuff. Last trip to Chicago, lets see: two bikes worth of nine speed DA components, trainer, Fuji Club, misc pedals, saddles, Tiagra STI, riding jerseys, Paramount jacket, machinist tool chest full of high end calipers.micrometers, etc., and so on. One of these times, I won't find stuff on a trip I am sure.

We're way past the first time she notices the additions. I just man'ed up, brought them in, and let her know who was boss!
Then I promised to get rid of some.
Here's pics, the World Tourist isn't much, but the Houdaille has some very strange components.

Found some info. Sort of a Bio Pace idea.
