I spotted this in the CL thread and decided I needed a Paramount in my life. A forum member was able to help get it from Chicago to me, the bike feels great, love it.

Found this Peugeot on Kijiji for a mere 25 bucks. I try to jump on this deal immediately but unfortunately, it was sold. Damn!

What would catch of the day be without the one that got away...

3 great books that almost wound up in a dumpster at the end of a book sale. They contain some great information! |
Not a great score but at $50 a good score of this 1987 Schwinn LeTour (based on color, decals and Shimano components) a bit too small but I will either; strip. flip it. or rehab and sell it. Need to visit the co-op for a dia compe side pull rear brake, to replace the missing one, which will be dangerous as I'll probably come home with a bike lol

I'm not holding my breath, but I am crossing my fingers that I can get this rolling again. The components are in really rough, rusty shape but the frame is solid and corrosion-free. Got it from a guy's garage when he packing to move, he said he did over 70 century rides on this thing in the 90s.

I've posted this pic before of my A-D Inter 10 road frame made into an '80s MTB, but that's not what this post is about. Take a look at the sign behind it, the logo of my old alma mater, Two Wheel Travel in Richmond. When the shop closed several years ago I got what I really wanted, the pair of little Snap-On Whitworth wrenches, but I never knew what happened to the signs. Turns out one went to my former co-worker Dale, who recently passed away. At the funeral I spoke with his brother, who offered the sign to me if I wanted it. Hell, yes.
Pic of the sign in service. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f4ee5fc9e5.jpg Against Dale's shed where it spent the last decade or so, getting badly weathered in the process. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7a54b727d1.jpg Packed for transport and literally saved from the dump. Thanks to friend Danny for helping me load up. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...836ff532d6.jpg In my driveway after receiving a fresh heavy coat of polyurethane. A couple more coats and it'll be ready to install somewhere, wife permitting. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b2203125e4.jpg And a shop sticker on a bike that turned up at the local co-op. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...57a8abb3e3.jpg |
That sign is a great find, I bet you could get it polished up and looking great again pretty easy.

I spent several mostly-happy years working at that place. |
That is a great memory save! Remind me of my 15 foot long Tour du Pont banner I have, but no place to hang it, according to the Wife! |
A couple of followup pix will show you how bad the sign's condition really is. The task here is to prevent further decay, nothing more. I'll save that energy for the bike fleet.

I found this bin of brake parts & more for super cheap. That's 2 sets MAFAC "RACER", one set Dia-Compe center pulls with matching stretcher and quick release hangars, some stem shifters, a few front / rear derailleurs, (no pairs), some aluminum wing nuts, and a set of 27" wheels. The Normandy hubs and Atom freewheel from those 27" wheels went to a BF C&V'er. |

In 1973, this was Gitane's alternative to the UO-8. Found on our local CL for $45, belonged to seller's mom and was hanging in her Sausalito home for "at least 30 years". included 2 new tires + 2nd set of shift levers + 2 front DR's to replace the broken original. Just a light dusting of rust on the chrome bits.
Pics taken after clean-up + some Blue Magic for the bar & rim chrome. Amazed that wheels and BB spin free, but will be doing a full tear down, clean, polish & lube. Don |
See how high I had to raise the saddle just for a driveway ride after install of the front DR. It will come way back down for one of my grand daughters to ride it.

A couple more pix of the sign in its new home. Thanks to bro-in-law Jeff for help getting it boosted into position.
Moral of this story: if you drag home a big ass sign, be sure you have a bigger ass wall to hang it on. I'll be installing windows in the shop area below the sliding glass door in the loft, hence the sign's offset. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0a734e6cca.jpg |
1999 Gary Fisher Joshua F4 full suspension cross country bike with Rock Shox Judy, Fox racing coil shock, full Shimano and Bontrager hubs and wheels. Yard sale item for $20. This bike was at a garage sale 3 years ago for $50 bucks. It was pulled back a little and the seller's said it was already claimed but the buyer needed to get money. Today was their neighborhood sale and I asked if they had any bikes for sale. They brought out the Centurion and said someone never came back and wished they'd sold it to that other guy. Free, but those years outside did it no favors. Late 70's... |
