When out for breakfast with a friend, I bumped into a fellow that I used to work with. He had mentioned to me that he had an old Bottecchia and wondered if I was interested. That was years ago, and I was surprised that he still had the bike. Chance put us together, just before he was going to take the bike to the landfill site. Anyway, I followed his Dodge pick-up to his place, had a look at the bike and expressed interest. We arrived at a price and that was that. And this is the first bike found/acquired for 2018...

As I was wheeling the bike to the car, he commented that it was lucky we hooked up, as he was going to take the bike to the dump later that day. Hmmm..? Wish he had mentioned that before negotiations:-(

Definitely a "Catch of the Day" entry. Agreed on knowing the bike's fate before you negotiated terms but, yeah.... Still, a nice looking specimen. I have a '72 Professional that I picked up with no clear intentions on what I wanted to do with it, but it grew on me very quickly and it's a permanent member of the fleet.

Lemond Buenos Aires Reynolds 853 All Ultegra Components - $365 (Chapel Hill)

"2002 Lemond Buenos Aires. Great shape. 55cm. Reynolds 853 steel frame, hand built in the USA. Shimano Ultegra groupset, 3x9 drivetrain, with Ultegra cranks, shifters, cogs, derailleurs, and brakes. Recently tuned with brand new shifter and brake cables, new Shimano chain, and new bar tape. Front wheel is Bontrager Select and rear wheel is an Italian made FIR SRG 30 Apollo. Carlton Franco-Suisse

Interesting frame popped up on my Inoreader saved searches today. eBay says the seller doesn't ship to the US. Still, I noticed that the frame has done some travelling. I presume it was made in the UK. It has a "Dick's Bicycle Center, Boulder, CO" sticker, so it presumably spent part of its life in The Colonies. Now it's back in Bristol. It also has Cyclo dropouts. Not sure I've encountered them before.

Could be wrong, but I always thought the 80's Tenax Schwinns only came in 19-21-23-25" frames. Based on the head tube length, I'd guess a 23" / 58cm.

Rather handsome World Voyageur. Needs to regain its original Dura-Ace rear deraulleur, non-aero brake levers and brake cable setup (ask the seller to take some photos of the stops - one might be broken), but the chrome looks to be in nice shape.
