The CL ad is still active.........it does state best offer over $400. It was listed a couple weeks ago with just a "make offer" approach. It is understandable that he'd like to get a fair price for it........but he should at least be up front about his intentions in the CL ad.
I don't mind if the guy realizes that he has something more valuable than he at first realized... I just don't want him emailing me to inform me that he is now changing his approach and will give me a "fair shot" at bidding it up. It is a very un-gentlemanly thing to do. It's not about the bike at that point, it's about the way in which he is managing the sale.
I once drove an hour and a half to pick up a bike that I committed to purchase over the phone for $40.00. When I got there the guy had gotten many emails about it and realized that it was worth more than the asking price. Instead of breaking the deal in order to make a few more bucks, he sold it to me for the price he had asked. It was the right thing to do. And ultimately I had to put a couple hundred more into the restoration. The bike is now worth $240.00... exactly what I put into it.
I just think he should have pulled the ad from craigslist when he figured out that there was a lot of interest. He should not have emailed everyone with his intention to include us in a bidding war. If I found the auction on ebay later, I would completely understand why he had done it. I simply don't want to be part of a shakedown. It truly is poor form.
(sorry about the rant) ((I feel better now))

Schwinn Paramount MTB - $500 (MIT)
Date: 2009-11-08, 2:25AM EST
Reply to: sale-tspth-1456412459@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]
Schwinn Paramount Series 50 PDG MTB. 17.5" frame
Lightweight tange-prestige frame
New panaracer 2.1" folding bead tires
New yokozuna jet lubed cables
XTR v-brakes
XTR rear hub
Ringle stem
Judy SL rockshox front fork (perfect condition)
deore/xt trigger shifters
Patent-pending crankset
Reelights (I ride in the dark a lot, they blink on rotation)
This frame rocks! I bought a 29er last year and this bike has just been sitting in storage since. I still miss it for short jaunts but I definitely use my 29er all the time now.
This bike setup as is, is likely to fit someone 5'8-6'0. It has a very aggressive XC fit.
Email if interested, 500$ OBO.

Ive been reading this for days and it strikes me as a hollow argument because of its basis: The fact is that you're attracted to the bike because you know it's worth more than what the guy was asking. He, having found out that fact, is now somehow 'un-gentlemanly' because he'd like to receive fair value for what he owns?
Isn't it the definition of selfishness to mess with the guy's reputation because he won't do as you'd prefer?
It seems to me that you're trying to bully the guy into selling it to you for less because of some imaginary 'first caller dibs' rule you ascribe to CL sales and then, because he now knows what you know, you're trying to screw with his Ebay auction.
I can't say that I like your approach.

Well I know I'm a bit strict about this, but I really think that Craigslist as a free marketplace should be a "post it for a stated price" venue. Ebay is an auction where the highest price prevails. But craigslist is a classified ad, or similar to a yard sale... you put a price on it and post it, you bargain down from there.
I don't mind if the guy realizes that he has something more valuable than he at first realized... I just don't want him emailing me to inform me that he is now changing his approach and will give me a "fair shot" at bidding it up. It is a very un-gentlemanly thing to do. Can we be done with this argument? We have different opinions, but this isn't really the forum to debate it. I know that I made the mistake of posting about it too, but lets move on and look for local bikes to pop up.

1973 Schwinn Speedster - $75 (Milton - exit 31)
Classic 1973 Schwinn Speedster with 3 speed internal hub shifter. Found this great old bike in a barn and dusted it off, it appears to be all original. Put new inner tubes in it and it rides like new. Very little corrosion or dings and scratches.

I have a 1980's Miyata Two Ten up for sale. It's been a good bike to me but my computer crashed and I need a new one so I’m clearing house.
As you can see in the picture below this bike can easily be converted into a Fixed/single speed if you choose.
$90.00 or best offer

OMG, somebody please save this Miyata!
https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/bik/1458657275.html
It's 2 cm too tall for myself.
CL has been a ghost town for bike deals in PHX. But this one seems worth it.
Last night I went cross town to see a Schwinn (a Paramount pictured) for $50 on CL. I get there the bum tried to pawn off a rusty Varsity as the bike posted. He claims it must have been the camera flash that made me think it was another model.

Shogun 800 Series - Tall Frame > Lightweight 12 Speed Road Bike
Japanese built, large frame bicycle with a 35 1/2" Stand over height, From ground to Top Tube - I would say best for a person 5' 11" to 6' 6".

This is a 1973 Raleigh international with a full campagnola record grupo. It has a Reynold 531 double butted frame and fork with Narvex lugs. The tires are sew ups with fiamme gold label rims and a leather brooks professional saddle. This is a mint condition bike that is fully original except for the brakes and rims which are upgrades from the original parts and were installed on the bike when it was purchased so they are erra speciffic.
