I started a new project, at least conceptually.
I've been thinking about getting a Bendix 2-speed kickback and building a knocking-around bike. I sourced one... in parts... from nlerner. Assuming all the parts are there and I have enough aptitude to build it back up, I am going to build into one of two or three frames I have lying around. First choice would be my Raleigh Marathon that has a damaged derailleur hanger and rear dropout. Not sure if the dropout can be fixed, but if I can do it, I'll use that frame. If it doesn't work out, I've got a couple of cheapo frames in the garage that I'd do a rattle can job. Thinking about painting it black then splattering it with fluorescent/neon colors. Should come out nicely ugly.
So on the back I'll build the Bendix hub into a wheel (will be my first from-scratch build), either 700C or 27"
In front I'll either build a new wheel or maybe use one I've got sitting around. One option is to use the high-flange front hub that came on my Schwinn Varsity; it looks pretty cool.
I have some cranks for a ss/fg project I never got around to; they should work with the Bendix hub sprocket (I think 1/8" chain on the Bendix?)
For the seat, I'm going to try to salvage the torn 45-year-old Brooks B72 from my DL-1.
The one area I haven't figured out is the handlebars. I like the idea of putting a front basket on, so that's a consideration. Beyond that... I may do some bullhorns made from chopped & flipped drop bars, or maybe go for something low-slung for a path racer look, or possibly some Northroad bars to make something that looks like a Schwinn Racer. I'm thinking make it spartan- no fenders or chain guard. If it comes out well, it could be a Velo Cheapo entry.
Thoughts?

I need to clear out some things I've been sitting on for awhile, so minor details, but they need completetion.
1. Replace bar tape on Univega Viva Sport
2. Replace bar tape and spit shine the Sekai 2700
3. Replace tires and saddle on Trek 420
4. More bar tape on the Trek 1200 and Traveler SS conversion.
I bought about 20 sets of bar tape at a swap last year and I've gone thru most of it. It was cheap and easy to work with.......says Zero on the plugs and apparently manufactured by 3M.

Bikes: Kirk Frameworks JKS-C, Serotta Nova, Gazelle AB-Frame, Fuji Team Issue, Surly Straggler
1) Get the wheels back on the Gazelle A-Frame and get it out on the road soon. I have a new leather saddle bag I promised to do a review for when I bought it during NAHBS.
2) Try to avoid going crazy (and avoid spending too much extra cash) while waiting for my custom frame to be built.

1. Do a light modernization (alloy wheels and better saddle) on a Peugeot UO-18 mixte city bike for my wife
2. Final fine tuning and set up on a Bianchi touring/cross frame. I'll post a pick to try to get it IDed when finished--I think its a Volpe. Lugged steel, 3 sets of bottle cage bosses. Its Texas Longhorn burnt orange--may have been repainted. Using Suntour Command Shifters
3. Finish various steel wheeled flip bikes
4. Find a nice frame for the Shimano 600 group I've slowly assembled from Ebay

79 Miyata Gran Touring- Parts are scattered all-over the house, and my arm is still sore from scrubbing on the wheels (But, it's getting there.)
82? Rossin Record- This is the sequel and more authentic build to my first build. (Just waiting for the 27.0 seat post and should be done. The translucent white Benotto tape is amazing. It's the first time I've used it.)
86 C'dale R400- I've almost completed the paint removal and then to the PC'er. (This is a long term project.)
90? Mongoose Maneuver MTB- I picked this up on a whim from the junkyard for $7. Most of it is soaking in a OA bath. We'll see what happens.

Gonna re-do the Marinoni with a drop bar. The porteur looks cool, rides fine, but I itch for a drop bar on that bike.
Currently sussing out the options, with two primary possible directions:
- Club racer - 28mm tires, more saddle-bar drop, longer stem (I have two NOS chromoly stems ready for action), traditional drop bar
- Randonneur/sport tour - Rando bars, high stem, constructeur racks
In either case, the porteur rack is going to go.
I'm reserving a spot in my stable for a proper English or Dutch bike instead of trying to make the 'noni play act like something it is not.

Hmmm:
Finish the Jeunet 5-speed Sturmey Archer.
Finish the 72 Mondia with a triple Campagnolo crank.
Finish the Motobecane Gran Jubilee.
All in various stages of parts collecting, assembly, and wheelbuilding.
Oh, and work on my xs650 cafe racer project. Cutting, welding, fabricating like a hillbilly! Least I got the wheels done!

I am deep into my 1890's bike. It is basically at least four projects
1) finishing saddle base, have glue (thanks scottyrider) found 1/16 veneer, have 6X9X12 block for gluing form, just need to order veneer. Found revolution era leather coat for saddle cover and 100 year old post type sewing machine (and fellow with skills) to complete saddle.
2) found origin of bicycle and more than 20 pieces of information about builder (including factory photo and racing results)
3) make 5 brass spoke nipples with two facets and unusual shape for wood rims
4) make cork grips by mod-ing something from Grant P. and crafting some brass bits for the end bezels (ferruls)
