Tweed Runners?
In London the have for two years in a row done a Tweed run where people dress in classic Tweed suits and ride through downtown London they encourage the riding of classic bikes, for 2011 they plan on having a New York Tweed Run as well, I am thinking about partaking in the event I was wondering if others from the C&V section would be participating?
the website for the run is here

Awesome I did not realise this was catching on all over the place. If you know of links for these Tweed Runs Post them up because I want to set up a collection of links per city on my website, I will add the Philly link right now

I have not participated in a Tweed Run. If there were one that I could do right from my house, I suppose I would; but the closest so far have been NYC and Philly, which is too far to go for such silliness.
There's something about the Tweed Run that bothers me. When I go out and want to look reasonably presentable, I wear a tweed jacket; and my preferred mode of transportation is a bicycle; but tweed is not my idea of sensible biking clothing. The whole thing sounds like a weird kind of exhibition where I'd be embarrassed to be recognized.

I've never heard it referred to as a Tweed Run, only a Tweed Ride, but yes--definitely a big thing in a lot of cities including Boston, though yes, I think it was unseasonably warm this year. Sounds fun to me, though I've never gone to one. The cycling community here is pretty young and good-humored and a lot of people get into these costume-y group ride type things.

There were a couple of Tweed rides in Minneapolis this fall:

As near as I can tell, they were basically pub crawls.
Sometimes I hear the Lake Pepin Tour and the ABCE ride referred to as Tweed rides, which they really are not. They are primarily about the bicycles and the style of touring, not wearing tweed. The tweed just fits in with the theme for those who wish to get into the spirit of the event.

Tweed in the US has always been more of a formal wear. In england it is hunting and day wear. It is a wool product and breaths well so despite its formal look it is not a bad materiel for casual riding.
I would love for a Tweed run in Atlanta to happen. They have had a couple "Seersuckers" in the spring. https://ridingpretty.blogspot.com/201...per-gents.html
Yesterday I picked up the porteur rack for my Raleigh that is not a Raleigh and ready to start my build and it will be the perfect bike for a Tweed or Seersucker ride.

I went to one in Boston a couple of years ago. It was a pretty interesting scene and was mostly about the clothes rather than the bikes (seeing tweed-clad folks on MTBs was surprising!). Given that my regular bike club, the VCC-NE, is usually about old Brit bikes and wool knickers, I don't feel like I need the additional experience.

Tweed rides makes me want to win the lotto so that I can buy this:

I tried modifying a thrift store "Harris Tweed", but there were some technical difficulties.

There was a Tweed Ride in Washington, D.C., last weekend. About 1,500 riders. A few penny-farthings, a Peterson sling-saddle bike, and a few other odds & ends bikes, but mostly run-of-the-mill bikes and lots of nice friendly people.

I was planning to do the Dallas one this year, but didn't make it due to some other issues. I was there last year.
One thing to keep in mind is that the clothing style is more 1930's, so the appropriate bike you need is something like Doohickey's rod-brake-roadster, not your 1975 10-speed. And of course, 95% of the riders don't have anything like that. It's mostly the fixed-gear-urban crowd that's out with whatever bikes they have, rather than the antique-bike-collectors or vintage-bike-appreciators.
The amount of time and money that goes into clothing is highly variable, so you see a lot of variation in how period people actually look.
Last year, it was reasonably warm, too. The wind yesterday wasn't bad, considering they only go a few miles. People take their coats off when it's warm, they don't have to ride in it just because they own it. But a good cold dry day would really help the atmosphere of the ride.

San Diego had one last year and there will be the second annual tweed ride this year on 12/11:

Didn't make it to last years but it looked like a great time. My girlfriend and I are planning on going on this year's ride, it should be a lot of fun if anyone else in the southern california area is interested in checking it out.

they had one here in arizona well 2 actually up north in flagstaff and here in tempe. I guess it could work here in tempe the weather is a bit cooler now.
tweed is just really awesome, but i'm sure it doesn't make sense to wear it here in arizona.

The one in Detroit is called a Tweed Run, https://www.facebook.com/event.php?ei...5315446&ref=ts; a second one is called a Tweed Ride, https://tweedridedetroit.com/ , and the name is patterned after the website in London -- https://tweedrun.com/

I'm dying to do one. I've read a lot about it since the original was launched in London early last year. I would even like to start a Tweed ride here in Mexico. It does get quite cool here in early February - low 70s!
I'm starting to get a little biking group together and we have been doing casual Sunday rides. A Tweed Ride would be a cool way to spice it up but the organization seems daunting if I need to organize one myself. Maybe I should just do one first and go from there.
I read NYC had their Tweed Ride yesterday, but I believe they organize one twice a year.

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG
Sacramento, Portland, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis, London, Washington DC, Philly, Pittsburg? and I am sure many other cities have had Tween Rides/Runs.
FWIW I wear my Tweed jacket on occasion when the weather permits, usually while riding my DL-1 or my Sports, and no I am not on a Tweed Run it is just what I happen to be wearing. If I wanted to do an odd ride for me I would wear lycra.

Hello fellow San Diegan:
I just bought a set of english three speeds (DL-1s).
Velo Cult is a cool LBS and South Park is a nice place to ride a bike.
I was asking one of the guys at Velo Cult about bike tires for my 28" wheels. He swore I ordered the wrong size because he said 28" tires were so rare that he doubted I had them!

They had one here in Greensboro on this last Sunday. About 50 people with most on vintage rides, some REALLY NICE !
It was put on by the local cyclery, Cycles De Oro. Nicely done with homemade treats to munch on when they were done. Then a swap time later followed by a jam session with the local musician.
I, was off the bike this time with another equilibrium problem.... again !
I would and will go on one some day.
