Yeah Scott. There's some nasty root bumps up north there. I had understood they cut those out before the re-paving work. If not, they should have. Or maybe it's frost heave. That's why I prefer to ride the Dennis to Orleans section. Lots of people yesterday? Sure was a stellar day.

Pretty quiet up my end, it seems like Labor Day came a week early.

A few years ago when they did repair and repave the Orleans to Eastham section I'd heard they lined the path with root guards but it looks like they're back any way.

But I'll take roots any day over the acorns!

Yeah! I hate debris. Acorns, ugh. Cut tire and /or crash potential. Hope the trail clears off but I suppose it won't by itself unless we have a good, heavy rain storm.

Anton, ever since that leave/root combo caught up with me last fall on the Minuteman, I'm still really gun shy on these trails .. I wonder if they ever fixed that root bump?

I think it's still there, along with a bunch of others.

hey all,

i was thinking i would try to come to this, but having just spent a week on the cape, i feel the urge to ride somewhere else. maybe i'll try to take on that century i've always wanted.

i did ride from nickerson to north truro on the rail trail, and wow, that's mighty nice.

geoff

Recently read in the CC Times the officials up in Truro, and Provincetown are lobbying for an extension to the trail to keep cyclists off route 6, where there have been a few incidents of late including a kid who got killed walking his bike. Sounds good to me but I for one was hoping the tentative plan to extend the Trail further west from Dennis would happen first, since I live closer to that end.
Speaking of root bumps, it looks like that "guard" they installed didn't work, eh? Downright scary in places and I suppose it will only get worse. Didn't see many acorns on the Brewster to Dennis section last Sunday , Scott, when I rode it. But still a few leaves and sticks. Wonder if this weeks rain will help or hurt. I went back for a shorty Monday and rode Dennis to...as far as I felt like it, and turned around. I was feeling good as it felt like I was riding against the wind on the way out. "Oh good ! , this'll be a snap on the return." No such luck. SW wind at 16. What was I thinking ?

I think that the extension they're discussing is a separate bike lane as a part of Rt. 6 rather than an extension of the rail bed. It's not easy to find solid info on any of it. There's also some talk of a twelve bike trailer and bus shuttling between Marconi and P'town starting this August. None of the Park Service rangers had heard a thing about that.

My dream would be a full extension, from the canal to P'town. The rail bed through the center of Welfleet is still visible, it would involve some substantial bridges there as well as Pamet Harbor. Someday maybe, someday.

I haven't been concerned with bike trails on the Cape for some time but years ago, actually more like 3 decades ago, there used to be a nominal Boston-P'town bike trail. I recall riding Wellfleet to P'town and back, a trail marked on the pavement and almost all on back roads east of Rt6.

Roger that, in spades!!
Still a coin flip between the 'born again' Miyata and the Viscount Aerospace Pro.
But I just picked up a Ross Signature 290S. If it's ready in time......

Just a bump .. weather looks fair, or at least at this point. How many are still thinking of riding?

I'm still in, weather permitting.

I'm still in. Got the time off and everything. Putting the 'death fork' on the Viscount in case I decide to ride it. But if the Signature is ready.......

Top, are you making the trip just for this ride or family matters as well?

Right now just for the ride, but if my older brother can get Sunday off we're going to re-do the ceiling of the summer house in South Wellfleet. Given his track record I'm betting he won't/can't show.

We need to get a solid count by tomorrow, a bunch of us are driving a good distance and need some advance planning if the participant level doesn't materialize.

I will be there, Dennis trail head, at 1000 17 September. If no one else shows up I'll ride the damn thing my own self, take lots of pictures, and eat clams and drink beer 'til I puke. I'm GOING to have FUN, dammit!

Puke and beer, you got me there.

I can give someone a ride down from north of Boston or anywhere south of that.

It sounds like perfect wool jersey weather.

Top, I'm bringing the Miele frame.
