Any other pretty birds in your house? I'd love to see them.

Talouse turned two on March second... this spring I will get the definitive word on whether my baby is a boy or a girl but nonetheless... they don't get much more affectionate, cuddly, or even tempered than this. Talouse is not the most gregarious of birds with strangers but is not aggressive and is very polite with rejections and never bites, just gives a firm grab.

Lucce and Amore are our Ringneck Parakeets... he is 6 and she is 10 and they are closely bonded to each other and really like their people. Lucce (yellow) is an absolutele clown and a friendly little charmer who likes pretty much everyone he meets and has taught Talouse how to talk incredibly well.

Amore is most devoted to me and my oldest daughter and will seek us out for company although she is not big on human cuddling unless she is in the shower.

I've had a couple of cockatiels (one after the other) and they were great birds and great companions. The second one also loved showers. She was an absolute nut in the shower. She got so ugly and stinky from it, but how could I turn her down?

Just got these matching swallows done yesterday in commemoration of my first bicycle tour. It's a fairly traditional (c&v?) tattoo design. Swallows, after a long journey over land and/or sea, always return home...it's a nice sentiment, me thinks. Please forgive the crude self taken pics, they are a perfect match, but I had to twist my arm to get a somewhat decent shot.

Wait until tomorrow... I plan to hit the river valley in my quest to get these legs back into working shape and the scenery is breathtaking tat this time of year.

As for those birds... 30 and 50 years respectively for Ringnecks and Senegals when they are well cared for and mine might be a little spoiled. :)

I've always been terrified of having a female bird that became egg-bound, and so have always had males. Have you ever had any problems? I'm not sure how common it actually is.


I'd like to get a parrot once my littlest is old enough and learns some impulse control. I'm drawn to Pionus for their mellow temperaments and low volume.

Never any issues with eggs or egg binding with Amore since she came to live here... she is a strong and healthy parrot who is also active as she can free fly around the house.

Without access to a nest and having a mate who is an idiot is an excellent form of birth control... Lucce really has no clue.

Egg binding seems to be a much greater issue with other species like 'tiels but it is something to watch for if you have a hen of any type.

My daughters are the envy of many of their friends as their grandfather is Santa, and as you can see he chooses to drive a RAM pickup, (and a Harley in the summer).

He is a good sport about this as he is always getting approached by children who just... have... to... know.

This was the U.P. today... they got a foot of snow and it continues to fall.

I think if you live in the Yoop, a truck and a beard are obligatory. :thumb:

This is my grandpas pocket-watch. He was a bomber pilot in WW2; The "Bloody 100th bomber group". It is my understanding that he would have had this watch with him on every mission he flew as it was specially made for making aviation navigation calculations. Pretty cool to think what this watch went through to make it into my pocket. Kinda rough on the outside, but the inside is something to behold.

I've been nursing a knuckle vs. bike wound for two weeks now. Damn thing just won't heal...

I'll see your bike knuckle and raise you a parrot bite which went deep and to the bone... amazing what such a small bird can do (and it was not one of mine).

Larger parrots have been known to remove fingers although this is pretty rare.

Excellent pictures, -holiday76. My scars seem to have worn off. At some point in my bike mechanic career, I had at least one scar on every single knuckle.

Very nice - I'm most definitely a fan of vintage mechanicals and love to crack open the cases of my pocket and stop watches.

Yup. Our Senegal got a hold of my daughter when she pulled up on his cage to stand (she was learning to walk). There was so much blood I thought he had taken the first joint of her finger. He'd bitten me before, and hard, but when he bit my daughter it truly scared me. Turns out there was no lasting damage, but we found a good home for him by the end of the week.

For a bird the size of a pigeon, those suckers are strong.
