Haha. It's November, local produce diversity takes a dive at this time of year. Good thing for me I friggin' love kale. If it makes a difference I had never had this variety before (Red Russian kale).

My daughter's farm is still producing kale like crazy from the summer beds and I'm with the Colonel, a confirmed kale lover---yummy!!;)

+1 Quick saute in olive oil with some garlic and cayenne makes a great topping for crostini. Goat cheese optional.

Colonel, I trust you were running in that cyclocross too so as to burn off some calories prior to eating that soup? It looks thick.

Kale soup good. We've recently discovered that kale variety too. Kale good. But don't overcook. Collards good too but don't overcook.

I'll forgive you for not knowing about grits, but just so you know, that was not soup. That was a small bowl, but it was the second course. :o Grits are coarse ground corn cooked in water (or in this case shrimp stock). There is no meaningful difference between grits and polenta and I often use the two interchangeably.

I wish I was running in that race. Those guys were animals! That was the elite class in the final race of the day.

From an out of shape backmarker first year cross addict - do it! It's far harder than I could have imagined, but the sense of accomplishment you get from participating in such a ridiculous discipline makes it worthwhile :). That, plus the free beer...
Great pics; somebody from up here went for the weekend. He missed the cx clinic due to bad traffic, but he got to ride the course for awhile. He said the flyover bridge was pretty wild.

And I think I forgive you for assuming I didn't know what grits was. :D I just didn't look at the picture carefully. In case you didn't pick it up from the kind of music I play (see www.SouthernRail.com) I was born and raised in Virginia. I know all about grits and collards and NC-style bbq and how to find my way in the woods, but I hate blackeye peas. But grits ranks high on my food pyramid of essentials.

And this has nothin' to do with bikes except the eatin' afterwards, which I'm all in favor of.

It's in great shape so will probably save for show and run normal rings on the road. This finishes the Spinella/Olympia project perfectly. I already have a full-panto bike, so I'm not intending to go overboard here. But this really adds that last little something, you know?

Thanks, they are 700x37 Panaracer Pacelas. I like them a lot, especially on this bike because it sees most of it's time on the cinder trail pictured.

From My vacation in Florida.

The local university's "Ice Riders" group held a 'party bike event' this last weekend. Pretty much a smallish bike mob cruising around some local spots , drinking a few beers / wearing funny clothes / being silly. Much fun was had. Highlights included "racing" up than down the city's highest parkade (we don't have hills, this was as close as I've ever been) I've got a few pics of the event and I snagged a few from FB. Most are / were of friends , some OK bikes shots too.
