It is that... and perhaps it is such because it is not always about the bike.

As a break to the hot summer days and wildfires issues in the west figured I'd post this since we'll soon forget about the heat.

Really like the looks of that Trek as well. Looks like Dura Ace first generation group? If so, how do you like it? I just bought bike with that group and am looking forward to tryint it out.

Thanks for the kind words! The crank is first gen. Dura Ace, Brakes are Dia Compe 500G. Derailleurs are first gen. Suntour Cyclone. It's a mixed bag of parts, but they all work very well together. For the crank I used a 113mm JIS symmetrical bottom bracket spindle with a 1.8mm bb spacer on the drive side. I recall a discussion around these cranks and bottom brackets. This method works fine for me

New project in the works. Dialing in my Specialized Rockhopper drop bar conversion. 26" x1.5 WTB slicks were added. Also went from 5 spd to 6 spd & I have black fenders and a Blackburn rear rack on the way in the mail too. Kind of an all 'rounder / shopping & commuting bike.

I switched the original bars & stem to my girlfriends Windsor Oxford 3 speed. She loves the new setup. Got her a nice ladies Brooks B17S also.

+1 Turned out great! Those dirt-drops look massive. Very curious of your ride report if the longish stem is comfortable.

I'm doing a kitchen renovation currently. I turned around for a few minutes and my Cicciolina climbed up the ladder to get a better look. She is so curious. But she couldn't figure out how to get back down!

Mine too. The Nicorette really gives it depth and meaning. :thumb: Nice Gitane, BTW!

+1 I really like the composition of the photo above. The light is perfect.

cobrabyte 08-16-12 04:15 PM

^I agree, great photo CMAW!

Thanks for the kind words guys. The bars are original WTB dirt drop bars they're quite wide something like 56cm I think. I really like the ride MUCH better with the longer stem. It brings my reach to within 1cm of my other bikes that are dialed in & comfortable. The shorter stem just wasnt working for me. I'm really very happy with the whole thing. I also just got the perfect thing for it in the mail today from a friend. He makes bags & other bike stuff sometimes under the name Sewing Sloth. He sent me this awesome tool wrap in the pic below in trade for a set of vintage Kirtland Tour Pak panniers. I will be probably posting pics of this bike often so be warned

oh, and I got a Campagnolo shirt and some gloves I had ordered today too
The tool roll is quite nice, I will have to post nicer pics of it
