$16K+ Cinelli Laser? Really?!

It wouldnt be that expensive to build a very similar frameset.
You start with any of the 80's funny bike frames and then cut aero templates out of thin weldable steel. You'd either braze the templates in place or tack weld and then smooth it over with bondo. My brother who's skilled at all of those techniques could copy a Lazer for a few bucks in materials.

Zunow made similar aero frames in the 1980's. they are rare but when they pop up they sell for $2K-4K. Next best thing to a Cinelli Laser....

Andrea Cinelli was President of Cinelli when the Laser was unveiled. Cino was fully aware of the bike, but was enjoying retirement among his olive trees in Toscana. The bike follows through on a number of features that were very dear to Cino himself and can readily be defined as a refinement of the direction that Cino had embarked upon starting in the 60's. The bike was not designed for bike shows but rather for use in race events and was successfully used in racing for years, including for numerous record attempts.

If your stocks have appreciated as much as this Laser, you're a genius. There's a reason why banks are charging negative interest rates for their big customers right now and why the US bond auction was ridiculously low.

It would be my guess that a lot more of these will be pulled out of garages and attics across the world in the coming months.

I'm not going to turn this into a stock market/investing thread but if I invested what the Laser cost back in 1986 (4 million lire...whats that in US dollars?) I'd have alot more than $16,600.

In 1986, the lira ranged from 1663.14/dollar to 1379.44/dollar.
So 4MM lire = $2,405.09 - $2,899.73. Or accounting for inflation, in today's money, $4717.98 - $5688.30.
So about a 600% return. On the other hand, $2.5K in a Dow indexed fund from 1986 would bring you 750%, not including any dividends.
Aren't the intrawebz an amazing thing? That took me 5 minutes. But who buys a bike as an investment? That seems silly.
