I won a Schwinn mountain bike for $11 that had a huge shipping amount but was a local pick up for me. The seller said he could not sell it to me for $11, he said he did not know how to put a reserve on it. It was his first sale so I let him off the hook and did not give him negative feedback.

This creep has done it before, you need to report him to E-bay.

In this current listing for a seat post he states he has "100 percent positive feedback selling cycling gear since 04," a blatant lie. Would Ebay discipline him for this?

I don't normally talk about that company or its business but to potentially save you guys some effort, they usually will punish fee avoidance. Report him for that. They reportedly do not punish false or deceptive listings, particularly not claims about feedback etc.

I would say it's not worthwhile to play bidding games. But I am not sure what would happen if you won the second listing of it, paid with two payments (using send money and not the integrated process) and then reversed one after you received it, citing the original sale. Would that be fraudulent or justified?

Ebay doesnt care that much, they get their part after all.

The issue is that the lie practice is being used more and more lately from what I noticed. The problem i see is how ebay is going to fix this?? no matter what u do i doubt they will cut a seller because he lied.

Wel, for one thing, the "little fun" at issue crosses the line into actual fraud, at least under California law. Entering into a contrct with the intention not to perfrom is fraud. As a practical matter, due to the anonymity of eBay, it's unlikely as an ice storm in Hades that you'll suffer any legal consequences. But what has been proposed is wrong under at least California law - not a close call.

Don't get me wrong - what this guy did is clearly not acceptable behavior, and I would hope eBay would kick his backside out. I also see and appreciate the poetic justice of it. But do you really want to do something so clearly unlawful in retaliation for something that is, in the greater scheme of things, pretty trivial, especially since it requires a level of effort that this jerk simply does not warrant? Life's too short. Have fun dreamng up get-even plots - it's fun and cathartic. But please don't actually do it.

Ebay is fickle:
Had one guy bid 217 on my laptop (T42p). He immediately asked to cancel. Said he never put that bid in. Second chance also declined. Relisted: went for $ 127. After shipping and fees I made about $90 on it.

I also was in a similar boat last week. Sold some rims. Found out the estimated shipping was about $46 too low. Emailed the buyer explaining. We worked it out. I'm sad I didn't get anywhere NEAR what I think they're worth, but I was probably never going to use them and I know they went to a good home.

I'm using Reserve from now on. Yeah it costs, but it's better than losing one's shirt.

I won a bike on eBay for $1. It was a local pick up, and only a mediocre old MTB. When I contacted the seller about paying/meeting up, he blithely proposed that I pay $30. I refused, of course. And he called me a crook and was really quite abusive in his language. So, I just never paid and walked away. Yuck.

Yeah. I bought bad wheels. But they were Velocity rims. So I called in the lifetime warranty and told the seller to forget about it.

Well yes, just last week I sold a very nice Campy crankset to a single bidder for $50. One just like it, only really beat up and with no dust caps sold 2 days earlier for $160 with double the shipping charge. Lesson learned.

I keep forgetting this is typed letters forming words and ultimately an expression of some sort with no inflection inherent in actual speech. In other words, I wasn't able to convey that I wasn't serious about the game I proposed (although perhaps he could learn from a little tit-for-tat, but that's debatable). I apologize to anyone I may have offended by my tongue-in-cheek suggestion.

He still deserves a big fat Negative in his Feedback, however. And I feel like sending him a message via Ebay to ask what final value he'd be looking for on his seatpost auction to ensure he'd send it along after it sold

I wonder if things are worth more individually or as a set?

I have a Tiagra-ish (triple) group I need to part with but I'm not sure if I should sell as a group or individually. I was thinking group. Now, not so sure.

I think I'll try group with a reserve, and if fails then break up.
