Abbi Jacobson (Captain) & Ilana Glazer. Their show "Broad City" is hilarious.

Palin's satire of bike tourists isn't too biting, but this character sure is portrayed as a clueless boring idiot. I totally forgive him and the Pythons though, 'cuz that ep was my favorite of all time, even better than the "Bicycle Repair Man" skit! Inspired lunacy.
I think "The Cycling Tour" might have been the only entire episode with only one "skit", anyone know? Though it quickly diverges from the original story of a cycling tour of South Cornwall.

I think the "Mr Neutron" episode also only concentrates on the single character. Years ago my family gave me the entire series on DVD, one of the better gifts I've received.

There are lots of photos of President Carter bike riding. Seems he did it with some regularity. RIP Mr. President.

Trying to figure out the triangular headbadge, Fuji?

Does look like a Fuji. Probably would have had to go to Atlanta to get that. No Fujis in Plains.

himespau 12-31-24 01:07 PM

The headbadge almost looks like a Marin (not sure if date of this style would be remotely possible though as I know nothing about MTBs from that era):

I had thought Rocky Mountain Bicycles or Mongoose also had a silver triangle, but I'm not seeing one. Given that the Missus was on a Spalding, could be a big box BSO for all I know.

Anyone remember what the head badge looks like on a Univega Alpina Uno? They were first to market with a mass-produced MTB from Asia, slightly before Stumpjumper. I know the first ones had fork crowns, before they went to unicrown, and also early ones had seatstays brazed to the sides of the seat lug rather than the later fastback style. Lugged at first, before TIG took over.

Univega and Specialized weren't the only game in town for long of course — soon everyone had a clone of those bikes, all made in the same couple of factories no doubt. But the crown, side-mount seatstays and lugs all peg it as one of the early ones.
