Interesting build, the Ofmega Mistral grouppo is really different but seems to have some elegant engineering to its design. For the stem, I'd like to see a painted to match or the soft silver if you use the Kelley. I really like the brake levers.

Stem color is still up for debate but I am very pleased with the kelly. It doesn't look out of place like most threadless setups on steel bikes with 1in headsets.

I plan to use silver headset spacers to match the seatpost and black bar tape. Once this is done I think the stem will look fine in black. If it does, my wife has offered to paint white lines over it to match the frame.

So far the brake levers look and feel great. I almost want to buy another set for any future build that I may do.

getting there. ive been preoccupied this last week or so with the passing of my grandfather.

the brakes arrived via USPS today (4 days late) brakes were a very hard choice. i needed something that complemented the crankset, looked period correct for the frame, and didnt look out of place on the modern fork. most importantly i didnt want to break the bank. in the end i settled for a set of $35 NOS dia compe radius calipers. i was quite pleased when i opened the box. long term i will swap the pads out for modern cartridge units but outside of that they seem to fit the bill nicely. as an added bonus they feel very light for the price.

Those Radius brakes are nice. I had virtually the same thing, the BRS200, on a tri-bike.
Very light. Practice your panic stops, though. They are as light as 105 single pivots, as nice looking, but a shade less powerful.

if their performance (after koolstops) equals that of an OEM campagnolo monoplanar there will be no learning curve. either way i will be sure to test them before i put too many miles on.

Bikes: blue ones.

I love that legalize spinache sticker. He, popeye was stuffing it in his pipe for crying out loud! I have a set waiting in the wings for my next build. I had a tread on them a while back on a little boy I saw riding his bike even though his one arm was about half the length of the other with the aid of a spinacci bar.

originally the bike was going to be sort of a mid 90s inspired middle finger to the UCI with spinergy rev-x wheels and the spinaci extensions but along came the ofmega kit and giant wheels.

i will have to look for your thread. it is great to hear they helped someone.

im sold on the idea of going with an original flite saddle:

any opinions on this bar tape to go with it:

i dont think cork would look right and as much as i like the durability of the deda faux carbon tape i want to try something different. if i like it i plan to put the same deda tape (but in white) on my tommasini.

We have a recent veteran here with one arm, and a Spinaci, or half of one, would probably help him ride. I wonder if the Wounded Warrior cycling project has come across those. For those with prosthetic arms, it could be a real chance to ride road bikes.

BB issue possibly solved. ofmega spindle for 70mm italian bb shell, thin campy cups with ISO threads, and a small spacer on the fixed side. pics to follow.

more pictures!

the bottom bracket experement posted HERE looks to be a success.

cliff notes:
-ofmega spindle for italian bb shell
-english threaded "thin" campagnolo bb cups
-shimano sleeve
-1.8mm shimano bb spacer (OEM for hollowtech?)

my wife thinks i should use the campagnolo bolts out of my spare parts box, what do you all think?

i think it looks better, it keeps the ofmega caps safe, and it fits the theme. ive already got campagnolo cables, campagnolo bb cups, and a campagnolo headset.

closer:

i have not. i debated it here but i dont think i can justify the cost. the deda tape pictured is about $12 and is made from the same material as the deda tape that i already use and like.

It doesn't make sense to use the campy caps when you have the correct ones IMO

name one thing in this build that does make sense

they will probably get used for the first go round. my socket walls are too thick to fit inside the crank. (all my cranksets use an allen key)

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.

Go with the Campy hex bolts. A modern touch to the Mistral, and it looks good.
Man, this is a wild ride!

I like Ti Flite very much. My favorite modern classic. Used to be a Brooks aficionado until I discovered the Flite

ive got two original ti slr saddles that i really like but i think the flite will fit the look of the build nicely. consider this decision made

you can all expect full bike shots sans bar tape and saddle this weekend.

full body shot!!! (missing saddle, bar tape, chain, compression pug and proper spacers)

final bb install with a 2.5mm spacer:

here is an interesting addition my dad made years ago:

the cable housing used to slide in the guides and started wearing through the paint. he found this coupler that fits tightly in the front cable guide so now the housing is fixed and causes no paint damage when you turn the bars.

i have the missing touches on order but i may cancel the chain. i am now debating running 8 or 9 cogs from a 10spd cassette and a 10spd chain. i wouldnt bother but the derailleur doesnt move far enough to cover a traditional 8spd cassette.

Your life would be easier and better if you just used a real derailleur with the 10 speed cassette and chain. I know you want to go with the whole ofmega group but as far as actually riding, a dura ace rear mech and dura ace 10sp downtubes would be pretty epic compared to the ofmega setup on friction only covering part of the cassette. IMO of course. Your brakes and cranks are silver anyway.
