I'm not sure, but I think it is a Klein Attitude. If it is, you stole it, so I hope you were wearing a mask :D Those bike retail in the $1,200+ range. How old is it? The 2004 Klein Attitude specs to a RockShox Duke, not an XC. The XC might place it at around 1999 - 2001 or so. Still a hell of a bike at a giveaway price. If you decide you don't like it I'll give you what you paid for it, and buy you dinner when I come to pick it up. :)

I think it could be any of 3 or 4 models from mid '90s. Supposedly, it's from around '96. I didn't ask too many questions (gift horse thing).
The bike was bought by my friend brand new, and the computer had logged 431 miles total. I even got another set of (new looking) off road tires with it. Seems he converted it to a "hybrid' with a slick tire change. I'm switchin' back to the dirt tires before I try it out offroad next weekend.

That makes sense, re: the Judy XC. My 97 Gary Fisher Y came with a Judy XC. I'm not sure if Klein made the Attitude back then, but even so a clean, serious hardtail is a great deal at the price you paid.

Based on the XT 737 rear derailleur, I'm guessing 1996 as well. You can check the derailleur and brake model numbers on the internet, and they should all be for the same year. I don't have the link to the index, but it's not too hard to find.

Not an Attitude - they came with integrated headset and fork. I have a Rascal that fits this picture pretty well with the exception of the fender eyelets on the back dropouts - this would appear to make the bike a Mountain Klein from the late '80's that's been well worked over. The serial number is probably on the bottom of the left rear dropout...if it is a low number, then the bike is almost surely a Mountain Klein. I haven't ever been able to find any references on Klein serial numbers, though, and Klein doesn't seem interested in their ancient history (since, I suppose, Trek sees no point in it). Bulgier's site has some Klein catalogs, btw. But, they appear to be suffering from some physical disorder for the moment.

Over the weekend we dropped off an old gas grill at the local Habitat for Humanity. They had 4 bikes piled out back and offered any that I wanted. I found a Raleigh Record in Team paint scheme 58cm. Looks like it's from around 1976 per the RetroRaleigh site. Probably end up as a fixie. I gave them $5 so I wouldn't feel bad.

From looking on RetroRaleighs site the bike appears to be completely stock down to the safety levers and stem shifters... The seat and tires are the only changes.

I think I've got it figured out... I believe it's a Klein "Pinnacle" from the early '90s (pre '94), that may have been sold as a frame, then built with the '95 date-coded Deore XT that's on it. At least that's how it's looking to me now... Everything I've been checking out on Klein from mid '90s and earlier points to the Pinnacle. I'm gonna stick some "Velociraptor" knobbies on it, switch the stem for a shorter one, and give it a try... I think it's a little big for me (not much standover clearance), but it's better than no MTB at all, and its so clean and pretty, I'd hate to sell it. Who knows though; if I crack a nut on the top tube, maybe I'll try to find another of that vintage in a smaller size (if I can still ride). Been liking Kleins for a while, and the components are all like new...

I still run some of that XT gear. It works flawlessly, and looks much better than the crap Shimano is selling today.

yeah! I checked with my lbs, they have one in green just like it - a Pinnacle. It is an extra large, btw. They made 'em all of the way down to a 16". Mine is a 19. The one at the bike shop is a 21,and this looks to be a 22.5"...watch the downhills =-0

Looked at your pics again and this is in extraordinary shape. They really are a blast to ride. Everytime I broke a part on mine I replaced it with an XTR, and eventually everything was replaced. Nuke-proof hubs and mavic m217's with Conti Cross Country tires, a Dean Ti post and a flitie, with a Judy SL. Weighs about 22 lb, so you can build 'em to keep up with cross-country rigs today (not that my bike's engine can still keep up...)

Here's the latest I snagged whilst trolling the thrifts... Straight from the Willie, not even wiped down yet; an early '80s(?) UNIVEGA with Shimano 600 Arabesque. I wouldn't normally give one of these a second glance, but since there seems to be interest in the 600 Arabesque stuff lately, I picked it up. Needs some work, but it's not too bad for $20.
Originally came from I Martin in Beverly Hills. Looks like a decent bike; probably a nice rider. Not sure what I'll do with it yet... Trades?

This morning I saw three bikes at a garage sale. When I parked, and walked up the driveway, I

I'm a sucker for cheap Stingrays too... always was. Used to buy 'em from the neighborhood kids (when I was a kid) for around $5-$10 bucks, repaint, and their parents sometimes bought 'em back for $20-$30..! Not bad for a few hours time & a can of Rustoleum spray paint back then. I did make 'em look pretty good.

I picked-up a 70's Raleigh Rapide (made in Taiwan)with Suntour hardware today for under $15 at a thrift store. I then turned around and bought $50 worth of tires and tubes. So much for staying cheap!

It's been a long time since I've been into thrift stores or cruising garage sales. I used to do it all the time, but my wife thought we had "too much crap" (which was true) and it's been a couple of years since I've done it regularly. I was surprised yesterday to hear my wife get ready early and say she was going to join her mom for garage sale'n. She called mid-morning to say that she had found a Schwinn Breeze for $12. I told her to pass on it because I really didn't want to deal with it. I was more surprised when she wanted to go back out again this morning when I could go along. We had been at it about three hours and she found quite a few bargains, but I had seen very little until we were about to pack it in. As we were coming up to this one sale I could tell a bike out front was a mid-70's Schwinn from a mile away. It turned out to be a late '74 Le Tour (red) in pretty nice shape for $15. I really didn't need the thing, but was enjoying talking to the original owner about it. Then my eye caught the other bike he had further back in the garage. It was a "nude" Cannondale (paint stripped off of it) road bike. Upon closer inspection I could see it sported most of a Campanolo NR group with a '78 date code (cranks, pedals, brake calipers, rear hub, rear derailleur, seat post, downtube shift levers), Shimano 600 front hub, front derailleur, brake levers, Matrix Iso-C heat treated 700c aero rims, SR bars, Avocet Criterium saddle, unknown generic stem, Cycle Pro headset, Blackburn cage, shorty pump and Shimano BB. The parts were in very nice shape and the price tag was $50. I quickly offered $40. He accepted and then I had to ask the "boss" for the checkbook -- she was a little slower in agreeing to that until I told her of the parts values while we walked back to the car for the checkbook. This wasn't my best garage sale score, but it sure was fun to get out there again. Of course, I had to leave the Le Tour behind. :(

A brown Jc penny ladies 5 (deraileur equipped)speed (Free) 2 messed up wheels ,but I have the parts I need at my fathers to fix it up so when i have time i will complete it's restoration to rideability and donate it .The local bike shop was throwing it out ,so I asked for it to use for parts.

I ran across one of those in my travels recently. Sixteen inch wheels front & rear, with front and rear integrated carriers. The bike is a 3-speed and ir does fold. I did a look-up on e-bay to see what they were selling for, because I was unfamiliar. There were some out there - with pictures.

I passed on the one I saw. Interesting bike, but not what I was looking for.
