Not mine, but my riding buddy picked up a Super Grand Prix for $5.00 and a lower-end Falcon for $8.00 this past weekend at a town-wide yard sale somewhere in Delaware.

Anytime I get more than three Raleighs around here, they start picking on the Motobecanes -- calling 'em 'surrender-monkeys', and so on...

I picked up this Miyata 710 for $60 to replace my 310 frame but I ended up rebuilding it for a co-worker and selling it for $160. It was so "cute" I almost kept it for myself.
At least she's using it to ride to work now.

Usually PA people go to Delaware just to skimp on the sales taxes... not for unbelievable deals like that!

My Moto won't even come down off the hook if the Raleigh's around.

Off to Goodwill, hopefully I can post about some great find in an hour.

ravedodger 05-14-05 11:31 AM

Hey Colinm, nice signature. Did you find anything?

Gordon P 05-14-05 09:42 PM

I just bought a 1990 Fiori Modena for $20.00 Cdn. and it was never used! It sat all winter long not far from my house, so I just walked over and introduced myself to the nice women and walked away with a bike! The frame is interesting in that it is lugged and made with triple butted Ishiwata EX tubing and the fork is Tange. The groupo is Shimano Exage EX300, which is pretty base. I already started to cannibalise it and will sell off the remains.

Just a follow-up to my $10.00 carbon fiber find. I cleaned, lubed and inspected it yesterday. The front wheel trued up nicely on the truing stand, and the STI shifters are now working a-ok. I had to disassemble the hoods and hose out the innards with WD-40, and that did the trick

It is now all shiny and ready to ride. In addition to the purchase price, I had to purchase new tubes and tires, as well as front brake pads. Total cost for this bike was about $30.00 and roughly 2-3 hours labor.

Nice.

Sweet ride...but what's with that stem?!?

I've said this before, and I'll say it again; you suck. :p

Come over and I'll give you a proper road bike stem for that thing. I've got a few SRs and Customs in various sizes. So how much does that thing weigh?

I did manage to catch something myself today. Caught $100 for that '75 Mirage I got for free last month. Money's not as much fun as another bike, but at least you can trade it for one.

It is pretty goofy - I guess whoever had it before really wanted a cruiser or something. :)

Mike, I may take you up on that replacement stem - does it come with installation? ;)

Sure -- I'll go buy a new hacksaw blade. :p

mswantak 05-16-05 02:42 AM

Man -- I just checked eBay's closed items; 2100s like that are going for $300 - $400 bucks.

You really do suck.

Hey, do they all have the goofy stems?

mswantak 05-16-05 12:14 PM

Nope -- they look like Customs.

This weekend I got a 6 speed "autobike" classic out the trash on a ride. It is super crappy/funny, I was giggling while I ghost rode it home yesterday. This thing weighs 40 pounds at least has 14-28 gearing in the rear and a freewheeling front crank. As the rear wheels spins the RD is shifted to a higher gear. For some reason the rear freewheel is fixed when installed on the rear wheel. I was thinking of building up a frame (not the autobike boat anchor) with this folly of a mechinism with normal non-freewheeling cranks. This would give me an increadibly dangerous 6 gears of fix I am thinking? I don't know if I should try this or not what do y'all recommend?

I wouldn't do it... The rear derailleur won't work. Any time you try to resist, the derailer will snap off. And any "adjustability" (i.e., hand shifting by removing the wheel) will hose the chainline. I would just keep it the way it is for the novelty effect. It may be possible to use the wheel in some fixed gear application, but "6 gears of fix" will be super dangerous.

bigbossman 05-17-05 10:55 PM

Sears and Roebuck 10 speed, made in Austria. According to the replies on another post, it is made by Austro-Daimler/Puch. Weinmann brakes/calipers, Simplex shifters/derailluers.

For $2.50, it needs a seat, seat post, and front derailluer. All else is good and functioning. Check out the crazy humped drops:

$2.50? That's more insane than those bars! Things must be cheaper in San Ramon. I'm afraid the Trek I'm looking at is going to cost more than that. Nice Catch John!

No thrifts in San Ramon - I catch these tooling around the greater Bay Area.

Treks? You want Treks? You saw my $10.00 carbon fiber bike, right? Treks are falling from the sky, my friend...... :)
