Nothing too special - a lower end Peugeot 10 speed with Carbolite 103 tubing and Simplex stuff that actually works (for a change!). It even has a rack and rear fender. I took it for a quick spin after overhauling it, and it is a surprizingly solid little rider. Very comfortable and sure-footed.

This'll make someone a dandy little commuter:

I'm wondering the same thing. 41 watchers now, but we'll see. I decided that I'd try it once at a high start price, and if it doesn't move, then I'll try it again, starting at half the price. Anyway, 11 hrs to go, so I'll know soon.

USAZorro 06-12-06 04:04 AM

Well, many of your target customers should be returning from the Cirque de Cyclism. Maybe you'll get a bite.

Sammyboy 06-12-06 08:31 AM

If I do, it'll be the sweetest ever, really. I know I'm on to turn a good profit on this, but I just thought I'd try for a huge one!

I picked up my $32 eBay find today: a 1937 Raleigh Sports Tourist 23" frame w/ just about all original parts. On its eBay listing, it was shown with a oddball replacement gooseneck stem and flipped North Roads bars, but I whipped that thing out of there, replaced it with a standard Raleigh stem, and flipped the bars back. Paint has terrific lustre on the main triangle and chrome isn't too bad. Original Terry saddle looks indestructable.

In the end, it was 42 pepole waiting to see if anyone was crazy enough to buy it! That at least tells me that lots of people are interested in it, just not at that price. Trying again at £500.

You dog. I've been hunting for one of those in that size... great score, though!

Sammyboy 06-14-06 05:24 PM

If I can't make a significant profit on it, I'll just keep it. A gorgeous track bike for £220? That would do for me.

Two words: local pickup! The seller was as surprised as I that he didn't have more bidders, but the photos weren't particularly good, the riser stem looked downright odd, and the shipping costs were significant. And I suppose the description wasn't too hot either! I definitely lucked out.

I found this Rudge Sport on the side of the road, burried under years of leaves and pine needles in the front yard of what seemed like an abandoned house. There weren't even any neighbors to ask about it, so I just took it. The rack, pedals, cable clips, and the fenders look EXACTLEY the same as the 1937 Raleigh Sports Tourist pictured above. The seat tube has a decal or what have you that says "Raleigh Industries, 2030 High Carbon Tubing". The Sturmey Archer hub is too corroded to find the date code.

What a piece of junk. Unfortunately, the rack is not salvageable, the rear hub is totally locked up, the front generator hub is a dud, and the frame is rusted through on the chainstays. It will be returned back to its "home" tomorrow:p

Salvaged items:

The "Hand" Chainring...coolest part of the bike:D
Fenders
Sturmey Archer headlight...working?
Brooks B?? saddle frame...can anything be done with these!?!?
Headbadge!

A Raleigh And Two Atala Today

Picked up 3 “new” bicycles on the way to work today at the local thrift stores. Total price out the door on all three was $99.95.

First in very nice condition is a 1973(?) Raleigh “Carlton” Gran Sport road bike with Reynolds 531 tubes, Stronglight cranks, Brooks B-17 Saddle, Normandy hubs, Weinmann brake, Jim Blackburn rack, etc. Looks like it has been barely used.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s/carlton4.jpg

Next two are twins. Vintage Atala Gran Prix road bikes with misc Campy parts (hubs, derailleurs, shifters), Reynolds tubes etc. Not as nice as the Raleigh but ride able.

Do you think I did OK?

YoKev 06-15-06 05:08 AM

Dlwms, I personally think you did great! So about $33/bike...Without any hesitation I would pay way more than $33 for that Raleigh in that condition.

Well, it can't stay in my yard! If you are ever in the Hudson Valley region of NY and want it, I'll let you in on the location. Just let me know:p

mswantak 06-15-06 07:53 AM

Did you do okay!? No! You've done a bad thing -- you'd better send that Gran Sport out here to my place until the heat dies down.

My buddy was cleaning out the attic at a furniture store he manages and found this womens Peugeot mixte up there. No one wanted it so he brought it by the house. Noteworthy are the Simplex straight lever quick releases.

mswantak 06-16-06 12:25 AM

Cute! Put fenders, rack and lights on it and turn it into a Caravelle.

Update on the Rudge Sports I posted above. I found a date code...1948 on the cranks. It is now living in my friends garden. She is going to let her peas grow on it :)

Also, my previous catch of the day, the Puch Rugby Sports, is up for sale unfortunately. Damn nice bike but no room for it!

cyclotoine 06-16-06 02:32 PM

I bought a box of parts on ebay yesterday evening. Not much in it, some campy skewers (I need some nicer ones for my record hubs and what looked like a NR rear hub shell. (I needed new clips too) and some campy shifters (clamp on style and newer braze on style), modolo carbon fiber shifters and a bunch of bottom brackets plus a campy RD (the low end one with the red "C" faux jewel things), but that stuff is just kind of a bonus. The real gem is the 180mm strada cranks... I have been looking for a pair... now I need to get the rings! This is quite exciting as I have 170mm super mighties on my fixie, 175mm cranks on my commuter, my tourer and my "top" road racing bike, and 185mm currently on my vintage road racer but they may go to my touring bike. So i will have the full range from 170 to 185mm in 5mm increments.. SO far I really like the 185mm cranks so I imagine the 180s will be pretty sweet and they will go swimingly on my faggin.

Look what showed up in my garage today!

It's a little (21") entry level Trek 311 from 1982. Frame is in pretty decent shape though it's missing a front wheel. I just need to clean it up and find someone who can ride it.

vintage-trek.com has the brochure: http://vintage-trek.com/images/trek/...rek311a_80.jpg

You may have the multiples of 5 covered, but you're still lacking 171, 172.5 and 177.5 cranks. :)
