Exactly, Put me down for a "NO".

While I don't wear an Atmos, it is a perfect example of a light, comfortable helmet.

The shell protects your head from road rash after the foam has broken. I have a "traditional" Fuji brand helmet that is very light & fits my head very well. I hope I never go down in traffic with that one. I use it on super hot days. The nutcase I have is used on days when less air cooling of head is desired. That said, I've used my nutcase (present & previous) on 95-103 degree days. While yes more ventilation on hot days is nice, I will take protection over cooling every time (and have).

Would love one of the metroride helmets.

Have you seen the helmets that Cannondale-Garmin are using in the Tour de France. Few vents but very large.

Different.

These? They still look like racing helmets to me.

Not saying there's anything wrong with racing helmets, it's just the clientele is different from those who are looking at helmets by Nutcase, Bern, etc.

I figure the rounder shaped helmets without pointy bits (like the nutcase) are less likely to catch on the pavement and twist your head off. "Non-racer" style is a plus in my estimation.

I recently bought a Fox Transition in white:

So far, so good. I really like it.

I would like to see some sort of data where a nutcase type helet does better than a traditional one in regards to road rash, etc. Why wouldn't it just break like any other?
I'm not a skater/BMX rider doing stunts anyway. If that is your fashion choice, that's cool and all, but I can't see how it would perform any better than a well vented helmet.

Somebody brought up Catlike helmets in this thread. I just realized my avatar wears a Catlike when he races:

Yowamushi Pedal Finally Gets An Official Bike Helmet - Interest - Anime News Network

It's kind of ironic that the guy who has the cheapest road bike on the team (built out of spare parts) is handed one of the more expensive brand helmets when he joins.

All of the research from when before people forgot hard case helmets suck indicated they didn't protect any better. It's all non-sense, and a fashion statement.

Considering that the protection any bicycle helmet can offer is pretty minimal at best, choosing based on ones personal sense of fashion isn't really a bad idea...

It's really strange to see the sort of obsessive attention manga pays to guns, cars, and schoolgirl uniforms, aimed instead at bicycle components.

It depends on the wreck. Skate and "multi sport" helmets are tougher and rated for repeated impacts but they don't cushion your brain as well.

I definitely bought mine for the watermelon pattern. No apologies. Everyone loves it.

Yeah, I live in Austin, TX. That would turn into a sweat waterfall about 2 blocks from the house.

Obsession with mundane topics how they roll in Japan. Among the Japanese movies I've enjoyed watching recently:

Thermae Roma - A Roman bath architect is occasinally pulled through an underwater hole in time to modern Japan. Upon his return from each time trip, he uses ideas from Japanese bath houses and the like to design new Roman baths. At the end of the movie, the Emperor calls on him to build a bath to save the Empire.

Thermae Roma II - The equally absurd and hilarious sequel.

The Great Passage - Dictionary editors obsessively seeking out new words/terms and updating the dictionary. Actually more entertaining than it looks on the surface.

Library Wars - Young woman joins the Library Protection Police in the near future. They defend libraries against government forces seeking and destroying objectionable books.

And yeah, Yowamushi Pedal was a refreshing change from the more usual manga/anime topics. An ode to cycling and the sport of bicycle racing that any cyclist would appreciate. It'd be cool if it eventually inspired a real Tour De France style Inter-High race (there are Inter-High tournaments in other sports such as baseball). BTW, I think it's cute that one of the characters is being sponsored by a major manufacturer (Cannondale) - and he's just a supporting character.

the bike-skate helmet is ok for some places , if too hot get a summer and a winter helmet .

some offer a ski liner option to be warmer when its cold out. Bern one of those..

That's a good question for the helmet thread in A&S.

We aren't a bunch of people getting paid to race each other. And in the spirit of NOT turning this into a helmet good vs helmet bad thread, I will just say Darth Lefty, that's awesome.

Having crashed while wearing my old nutcase (kept the shell) onto the side of my head at 20 mph, I can say the choice was not for fashion. I don't give a flying front door about how I look to others, and put functionality above looks every time. If I had been wearing the RLX, I'm certain I'd have sustained more injury based on how it covers my head.

I have a Giro that is similar to the nutcase that I use in the winter, the minimal venting helps me stay warm and dry in the perpetual wet. The visor helps keep rain off my glasses. As far as I'm concerned all cycling helmets look stupid and any difference in their minimal protection is fairly irrelevant, so my only concerns are comfort and suitability for conditions.

Bikes: Gilmour road, Curtlo road; both steel (of course)

Comfort matters because no helmet will do any good if it isn't worn...

The guy who took this pic (after a car hit him in the bike lane) was glad he wore a helmet.
