I have a 23 pound bike and a 34 pound bike. I have others that weigh between those amounts.

Mine was, I belive ~23 bare, so after bottle holder and rear rack, probably ~25. This I can live with if I have to haul up/down stairs occasionally. If it was ~30 then oh my.....

Yep. And I'm not sure which is worse: asking the question, or knowing the answer?!

Both fixed gear, just the bike, nothing on them. Add a front and rear light and that is it.
Just out of curiosity, what makes the heavier bike worth owning?

The geometry of the slightly heavier one is a bit more relaxed compared to the other. Still an absolute blast to ride and I don't think I will ever sell it.

When you speak of "relaxed" geometry for track bikes you must mean in strictly relative terms. I thought maybe one had a pair of brakes or something.

Both are equipped with a Shimano Sora front brake and All City cross lever, so they are equal in that sense.

I had two bikes like that then I got a third and that wrecked everything. One of the first pair had to go. Sad really.

I have a third as well, but it is a fat bike. I got that strictly for commuting in inclement weather which I already put to the test this past winter. It is hard, one guy, three bikes. N+1 though, always will be that way.

Both are 49:15, one is the stock crank setup, the lighter one has FSA Carbon Track cranks.

the weight of the surly crosscheck which is about 24 lbs as previously stated...
plus 2 700x28 gatorskin road tires, toe clips, sks raceblade fenders, the lights.

the weight of those is quite negligible. i could carry those things on my back. i carry my lock(s) on my person.

my road bike when i had it was 22 lbs.

i once had a 30-35+ commuter but have since sold it. it's great for getting around town, but for commuting, it was tough to get across the bridges quickly.

I have 9.....hoping to be down to 8 (I'm there, but haven't officially gotten the money for it yet). Having only 3 sounds like you need more. Ideally one for every day of the week

I had a spare moment so I grabbed the luggage scale, went out and weighed some of the family bikes.

2002 Specialized Hardrock Sport, with 1.5" Nimbus tires, plus bell and 2 water cages. The trailer tug. 32 lb
(The trailer frequently attached is listed at 26 lb and probably weighs total 60 lb GLOW

2015 Raleigh Route 4.0, wife's new bike, no modifications. 35 lb

1972/3 Schwinn Super Sport plus rack, U-lock, bag, lights, non original wheels and freewheel, and a MTB saddle instead of OE Brooks. My daily commuter. 37 lb

1998 Cannondale XR800, a work in progress. 24 lb. I could shave maybe up to 3 lb with a light wheelset and thinner tires, maybe another via stem, bars, post, etc.

My panniers, water (1 litre), tools and pump, rain gear, and lock add 13 pounds to any bike they go on... my recumbent (one of my main commuters) curbs out at 30 pounds with fenders, lights, and a handlebar bag that carries it's spare tubes.

I rarely travel light, it makes no significant difference to my commuting time and sometimes I use the Extrabike which weighs 50 pounds before it gets any added gear.... at times I just carry a small hydration equipped backpack (10 pounds with gear) and ride the road or mountain bikes which weigh 21-26 pounds.

My Moulton (the other commuter) and usual gear weighs 35 pounds, everything I need for the day fits in the Carradice bag.

A lock and water are going to add 4-5 pounds to any kit and are the most significant extra weight I carry regularly.

It never seems right but my spartan "flat bar road bike" is 35 pounds. The fenders, rack, bags, lights and strong rear rim really add up.

Can you even feel the difference in weigh? I know I wouldn't be able to.
