A) Research Engineer / Mechanical engineering professor

B) 24 miles round trip when i go to NASA 1/2 the week, 2 blocks when I teach

C) When at work I change clothes/clean up (but not too much, thankfuly most reasearchers here are not too concerned with how they look at work )

D) Where bike is parked: on side of building, but this place it badge controlled, so the average bicycle thieve can't come around.

E) Number of years commuting: I used to bicycle commute regularly for several years, then I stopped for a while and just recently, with in the last month, I sold my vehicle to become a car-less commuter

F) Year-round/part time commuter: Year-round

Bikes: Kona Jake, Scott CR1, Dahon SpeedPro

A) Occupation - Programmer - Analyst / PhD student (engineering/math/computers)

B) Commuting Distance - Currently ~15 miles roundtrip. In the past, as little as about 3 miles and as much as ~20. I might increase to around 25 if the company moves.

C) When at work I b) change clothes/clean up -- I shower right before leaving for work so I don't really smell when I've changed clothes.

D) Where bike is parked - In my office, right in front of me.

E) Number of years commuting - Hard to say. A year and change plus a couple of summers and now, starting this week again for good? I've been a student a looong time.

F) Year-round/part time commuter - When I lived in an area known for cold winters, I took the bike to work year-round (with a ride here and there if the roads weren't clear enough), so I expect I'll do the same now.

March to November - If I wasn't coming in from the burbs and lived closer to downtown I'd be more of a year rounder.

Someone earlier in the is thread had questioned why more people didn't park their bikes in the office near them. Besides the whole American thing that bikes are some how unsanitary I was told they can be construed as a fire hazard (i.e. the could get in the way of an evacuation.)

Perhaps the relationship is between IT folks and idle time spent on forums! <grin>
