F) year round

For about 5 years I rode my bike to the station (5 miles), took the train in to the city, and then took the subway and/or walked. About three years ago I started using a Strida folding bike which I kept in my bike locker at the station, took it on the train with me, and rode it in the city. Last May I switched to a Downtube Mini which I ride to the station, fold it, take it on the train, and ride it in the city.

B) Commuting Distance - 30 mi. RT

C) When at work I - a) shower

D) Where bike is parked - on guard rail in parking garage

E) Number of years commuting - Including college and other jobs for 8 years

F) Year-round/part time commuter - Year round baby!

I started mountain biking when I was 12. Growing up in Colorado I had some of the best trails in the world literally out my back door so biking has always been a large part of my hobby-life. I raced MTBs through high school, rode some track at the Velodrome in C-Springs but fell off the serious racer horse in college. In college it was all about utility cycling, and as a poor student couldn't afford gas (nor did I have any need to drive far). I biked everywhere through college. My college career was long-ish, taking me from 1999 to winter 2006 with many breaks between. I kept biking, even during the breaks. It was always the easiest way to get around the small towns I tended to gravitate towards. Spring 2007 brought my first child and with her my first "real" job in corporate 'merica. My commute has taken a more serious tone, but I'm still bikin'!

Bikes: Surly Cross-Check; Bianchi San Jose; Schwinn Super Sport.

A) Lawyer.
B) Five miles round trip.
C) No shower, so depending on weather I just don't change and hope for the best (fall, winter, and spring), or change clothes and clean up with unscented baby wipes and a pit stick (summer). I'm a law clerk for an appellate court judge, so I get away with dressing on the more casual end of business casual most days, which helps. The short commute time and fenders on the bike also help me stay relatively clean and dry.
D) In the sub-basement of the building I work in.
E) All 4 years of college but then stopped. Just started to commute again this past May after a 5 year break.
F) Year round, every day. Except for heavy snowy days.

E) 3rd year. First two were part-time on and off.
F) This year has been year round. Except for heavy snow days.
