Here is my Specialized Rock Hopper. Has served me well for my years
|
Are those platform pedals sans toe clips and straps? You must have mad skillz to ride a fixie w/ platforms. Or do you actually use the front brake? |
Here's my rig - Trek 7300 - I've added SPD clips, Beavertail fenders and a rack, along with front and rear flashing LED lights, and a LED headlight. I've got an Incredibell (for alerting pedestrians), and bar ends. There's a mounting bracket for my Garmin eTrex on the bars.
http://members.cox.net/hollingsworth/Trek%207300.jpg I'm debating swapping out the front fork for a rigid fork, and I also need to rotate the stem to lower my riding position. When I got the bike, I was recovering from a motorcycle accident, and needed to ride upright. 2 1/2 years later, I can ride a road bike normally, and between the posture and front fork, I'm not as efficient as I could be. Still, I average between 15 and 16 MPH over 30-50 miles (up from 13 or so when I started in March), and did 17.1 average coming home from work on my 21.5 mile (each way) commute. |
Just got a new SS commuter for yucky winter days:
http://www.chipcom.net/bikes/raleigh.jpg to replace this MTB I built last year, but decided to give to my little bro for xmas for toting his kids around in a trailer: http://www.chipcom.net/pvt/Raleigh1.jpg |
Chipcom - how are you liking the One Way? I dig it on paper, but haven't seen one in the flesh yet.
|
Nice SS chipcom! How's she ride?
|
She rides pretty nice, though I am not sure I am impressed with the Vittoria Randonneur Cross tires that came on it. Of course they probably roll better than the studded tires I'm fixin to put on her. Pretty comfy, even if the bars are lower in relation to the saddle than even my road bike. I may try flipping the stem. ;)
|
chipcom,
What is strapped to your seat post? It looks like some sort of bracket, but I'm not familiar with it. |

My new Commuter, 1977 Rampar R-Two, not the first battered Rampar in this massive thread!
Too darn cold for me to commute now though, 10* windchills and 50mph winds on my mostly rural commute, (from Village into town), keep me driving the car in the winter. |
Picked up a frame bag and panniers for my commuter (frame bag will house battery and electronics for a future light project)

Here's my commuter bike.
No panniers or anything because I keep supplies at work and my messenger bag holds anything I need to bring along. |
I hate to ask this.
How do I put a picture on this thread? Man, I just showed my ignorance. I troubleshoot software issues at work. Don't send this to my boss! Stay upright Winnipeg Canada |
When in the reply box look at the icons at the top. The one with a moon over a mountain allows you to insert a link to an image on another site such as photobucket.

Nice setup there Chipcom and judging by your newer avatar, it looks like you've lost alot of weight too. That rocks!

I finally took some pictures of my commuter:
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/1...4807lh9.th.jpghttp://img213.imageshack.us/img213/4...4808mf8.th.jpg It's a DiamondBack Override that I picked up used at the end of June this year. Anyone know anything about this frame? I don't know how old it is, and my research hasn't turned up anything. It's the first bike I've owned in about 6 years, since my old road bike was stolen. I've been riding it to work everyday since August, and I've put about 2500 km on it since I got it. I added the fenders, lights, reflective tape, new brake pads when the old ones wore out, a computer, and I put on snow tires at the beginning of December. Otherwise it's the same as when I got it, and I haven't had to replace any of the real components. I'm pretty happy with it, even if it does have the ugliest paint ever. Which is fine really, since it makes it less attractive for thieves, right? At least it's not pink. I suppose if it survives the winter I'll strip it and paint it a different colour. Yesterday's project was making a new light for it from an MR16 12V 20W bulb, based on this (although apparently Home Depot in Canada does not carry the same stuff as Home Depot in the US so I had to modify it quite a bit). The blue thing strapped down in front of the rack is a bag holding my pack of rechargeable batteries. The LED light that I bought in the fall just wasn't cutting it for riding home in the dark at night. The snow and ice we got last week convinced me that I needed a better light asap. Having a new light to play with may even convince me to get up and go to work early tomorrow. :D |

Loving the bike thus far. A little heavy, but so is every full-featured commuter.
I'm thinking of going single-chainring, to cut down on a bit of heft, as I'll never use this bike for anything but commuting. I must admit, the Transworld City's are the best thing since sliced bread. Reflective sidewalls = wonderful. Haven't tried them in anything but a light drizzle, but i'll give them a test run in the approaching snow. If they don't work out, it's back to the knobbies. |

My new 2007 Tricross Comp
I finally got my 2007 Tricross Comp and I've set it up for commuting. The only other things I really want to change right now are the pedals.
http://www.durhambikeracks.com/image...ture%20006.jpg http://www.durhambikeracks.com/image...ture%20007.jpg I kept my old hybrid too for nasty weather commuting. It's been good to me. http://www.durhambikeracks.com/image...ture%20008.jpg http://www.durhambikeracks.com/image...ture%20009.jpg |
Nice ride. Am I confusing you with someone else, or were you pretty close to picking up a Cannondale Sport? What changed your mind?

Nice looking ride, love those hubs! Congratulations
|
jimmuter, I've been riding the R500 Sport for three years now. I've put thousands of miles on it and never understood why it wasn't more popular with the commuting/touring crowd, so it always sticks in my memory when someone mentions purchasing or considering purchasing one. My only complaint is that mine doesn't have rear rack eyelets on the seat stays---a pretty glaring omission considering the intended market. I bought some attachment that hooks up the rack to the seatpost---doesn't look so elegant, but works fine. I hear they added the eyelets in later models. Anyhow, I too love those hubs. Happy rides!
