Had a nice ride this moring. Chatted with a motorcyclist at a stop light and am really enjoying riding the Bridgestone XO-2 on the somewhat rough streets of Atlanta. Only problem was a Volvo that decided to hang right next to me instead of putting on a little gas a passing which was a little annoying. I probably wasn't even going 25mph, but they gamve me space so I can't really complain. I hope to have a good ride home tonight.

nice ride in this morning. obviously rained some last night and I felt a few drops as I was getting close to work. A little cold for June in TX at 68! and super humid.
It was hot on my ride home last night about 95, soon it will be 95-100+ everyday going home and "only 95" will feel great!

Wet Yesterday

Yesterday was my 30th Birthday... subsequently, the heavens saw fit to disgorge their glory upon me on my way home...

The color hides it, but my pants are soaked. You can imagine how wet my back is.

I hiked 2.5 miles to the bus this morning. Beer thing after work. Getting a ride home. But here's a picture from my great commute home yesterday. This was taken at this spot.

Lovin' the commute

Just resumed my commute to work after some time off (several moves, etc) about 6-7 weeks ago, and am now doing 3 days per week (4 this week). Wooho!

My 12-mile route takes me from the Eastern "bench" above Salt Lake City across the valley to my office, west of downtown, on (generally) bike friendly avenues and tree-lined neighborhood streets.

Nice morning ride in today, with a sweetness in the air following some awesome thunderstorms last night. No boneheads on the way in this morning - smooth sailing all the way.

The ride home has generally been a little more touchy, with a few more traffic issues. My main gripe is the tendency of cars to over-react when I attempt to cross a busy street - two-way traffic with a turn lane, in an older residential area. I usually cross into the turn lane when traffic breaks going one direction, and I wait there until traffic breaks in the other direction. You'd think this should be no problem, I am in a clearly marked separate lane, after all. BUT the traffic in the far lane tends to react as if a dog has run into the street in front of them (despite the fact that I am CLEARLY waiting - foot off the pedal, etc), it seems that 50% of the time, some driver comes to an abrubt stop to wave me across, nearly causing the drivers behind him/her to crash. It's a bit unsettling, and un-necessary. I may try to find another option for crossing that particular road.

Otherwise, it's a GREAT commute!

I get that as well when I take the long way home. BICYCLE! IN MIDDLE LANE! DOES NOT COMPUTE!

None today. Had to drop the kids at preschool via the minivan today. Brought my adidas to get a run in at lunchtime, if possible. Gotta keep the metabolism humming.

Today was the 1st day I used a bike as a commuter.. Total milage is ~ 7 since I went back to the bike store twice, once to pick up my assembled clip-on shoes, and again to get a headlight, taillight and padded shorts haha (learned real fast that it sucks riding w/o them).
I absolutely loved it. I was behind a motorcyclist on base and he got next to me and told me theres a group of bicyclists that get together mon-fri at 11am to ride. i wish I could get in on that, However my lunch break usually goes from 11-1... so that m eans Id have to change out of uniform, ride overe there, do the 12ish mile ride, then eat, then change back into my uniform to finish the work day... Probably wont happen while im day working,, when I go back to 12 hour watches I should be able to make a few of them though

Im extremely happy with riding.. I love it when you turn heads of people as your keeping up with their cars/motorcycles riding around base (20mph speed limit) without issue. I bought a speedometer that Im going to try to put together, but will most likely get help from the bike shop just to see how fast Im really going.

Bikes: Trek 820 mtb, A no name red steel pipe bike, my commuter

It is finally consistently warm in the morning, 62 F (16 C) and it is good. The ride is so much better in shorts and some sort of T-shirt. It was drizzling, but nothing to bother with. It is sunny and bright right now, and there is talk of thunderstorms, but there is always a chance of that in the afternoon. So with any luck I will be out of here on time and enjoying a ride in the 80 F (26 C) and loving every sweaty moment of it.

It rained last night; I know, what the heck is going on I live in California

I put the rear fender back on the bike and dressed for wet and cold; it was dry all the way to work and I was too hot climbing.......Life is sooooo hard sometimes

It looks like a windy and cool run down the mountain to get home in a couple of hours.

Had to detour on the way in and back due to flooding. Decent ride considering.

Only 2 or 3 more weeks of commuting. Everyone at my office was layed off today except me and a few others. Our office is being shutdown with us working from home offices.
Eventually my turn will come.

2nd day, made it both ways. For a second on the way home, I thought I was going to end up on my *****. When my shoe lace went into the chain wheel. Pulled over and just tucked the lace into the shoe.
For those that ride with their dress shoes on, what do you do to avoid this from happening?

Another warm morning in NC (70F) but thankfully the temperature is only expected to reach the low 80s this afternoon. It's been in the 90s all week with high humidity, any my afternoon commutes have been difficult while I am acclimating to the heat again. There is a good chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, however, so hopefully I will be able to dodge the rain. Tomorrow I plan to drive because my body needs the rest. Sometimes you can just feel it.

Bikes: Too darn many.. latest count is 11

It was wet... wet... and more wet. But at least it waited to start raining until *after* I started riding Note to self: Road bike brakes suck in the rain. 3 bikes sitting home with discs and what do I take? LOL

Pretty fast this morning. Low 50s. Tailwind. Passed a couple of cyclists. Was reeling in a third but we diverged before I could get 'em. He was somewhat quick.

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

Missed my train this AM, ended up running an hour late.

Tuck 'em in every time. If it's hard to tuck in or makes an uncomfortable bulge when you do so, you might want to trim the laces a bit. Also, tie them just a touch looser than your normally do, this will greatly increase comfort when you tuck them it. If you tie a proper bow knot rather than granny knot, tucking them in is as simple as roll-tucking the left half of the bow to the left of your foot (under the show proper rather than under the laces) and the right right half to the right. This is, for me, way more comfortable and easier than stuffing the entire bow up under the laces (which is what a lot of people seem to do).

I actually leave them tucked in all day at work.

Chilly ride, quicker than I expected. Also buzzed by a truck with nobody else on a four lane road.
