Top 10 Reasons why today's commute was great:

#10 - Partly cloudy skies, 61 deg.
#9 - No wind. NONE!
#8 - First commute on clipless pedals and I didn't fall over.
#7 - My new commuting shoes are really comfy. And fashionable.
#6 - I zipped past a line of about 30 cars stopped at a traffic light (I was making a right) and FELT REALLY GOOD!
#5 - Drivers were especially courteous today. They waited until I had a chance to move over, slowed down as they passed me. What gives?
#4 - The hills I climb are becoming less of a challenge.
#3 - And when I climb those hills, shifting to my "granny gear" never even occurs to me.
#2 - I trued my own wheels before heading out and didn't break anything.
And the #1 reason why the commute was great today:

#1 - First commute on my new Brooks B17 and I can still feel my butt!

50F. Cloudy. Tailwind allowed me to push the Liquid easily along at 17-20MPH most of the way. I saw one cyclist approaching my route from a side street but he/she/it never caught me. Passed another going the other way. A regular. Old guy who cooks right along on a hybrid and waves to everyone with a big smile. He's cool.

I stopped to say hello to a kitty, too.

Overcast and 65F -- very nice! Saw the usual number of commuters and runners on the MUP, until I got close to Georgetown. Then I saw about 15 riders leaving town, along with 2 bike cops but dunno if they were together on purpose or by chance. First time I've seen bike cops around that part of the trail, too. Saw 2 deer by the trail, enjoying their breakfast. Finally, in Rosslyn, one motorist decided to block the crosswalk that leads onto Key Bridge, despite all the bikes and runners trying to cross. She couldn't go anywhere because of all the traffic, but I guess she felt better because she was 5 feet closer to the merge lane.

I had to dig out the winter gear this morning. Morning temps in the low 40's this morning and won't go over 55 for the day and nothing over 70 for the next 7 days. For those of you who live near lake Michigan you know what I'm talking about. We get these NE winds off of the cold lake and you would think it was November already.

Aside from the temps the ride in was fine. No one honked, buzzed me or cut me off.

First Commute in 20+ yrs.

Bit on the cool side 11*C / 51.8*F

It's a short commute at only 4.2Kms / 2.6mi, my legs sure felt it. Near the end I got a small hill. I'm sure after a week or two I'll be use to it.

Beautiful. I woke up early and took a new way to work, riding over top of the big hill rather than around it. The uphill was tough, but i hit 32.5 on the downhill, and shaved 4+ miles and 20+ minutes off my ride. Even with the shower, i was at my desk and dressed before 6:50.

~55F felt brisk this morning, must be switching to summer metabolism. Was certainly too hot to sleep even w/ the windows open...

First bike commute in 3 1/2 years! Installed the new Mavic Pros last night and off I went this morning. I had forgotten how much time it takes in the morning. More to pack and more to think about -I'll get used to it again.

Great day for a ride. Just right temp (68F) but a bit muggy. Would have been perfect if I hadn't had such troubles with the panniers continually being kicked off by my heels. I used to ride in with road shoes and now I'm using MTB shoes, which I beleive have a bigger heel causing the problem. Something else I'll have to figure out. It's still a great way to start the day!

I was riding north on Mass Ave in Cambridge, and ran a red light at Main St. I was too busy looking out for cars, bikes, and peds that I didn't notice the police cruiser parked directly ahead. Two officers were standing in the middle of the bike lane about 30 feet ahead of me, looking right at me!

Cambridge has been proactive about ticketing cyclists recently, so I figured they had me dead to rights. I slowed as I approached them, getting ready to stop and receive my discipline... When they both stepped out of my way and let me continue northward!

FLAWLESS VICTORY!

Nice ride today, not too many crazy cab drivers and no head winds. Quick ride down St. Nick and then 5th, with good timing on the lights. It happens every now and then.

Interesting. Normal warm day, a few clouds, stopped at the library downtown on the way home from work. Ten minutes later hear all this crashing - thunder. Deluge outside...

So I sat on a sheltered bench outside reading until it let up a little, then headed home - by which time the streets were ridiculously flooded. I rode through a bunch of sections with water up to my axles, and got totally doused by cars ramming through the water along the streets....

Changed and went back out to pick up my kid from school, by which time most of it had subsided and it was about back to normal.

Florida is warming up

Today's ride home was a warm one. We're getting up into the high '80's here in north central Florida.

I had my first real right hook experience today. At least it wasn't too close of a call. It pays to stay alert, anticipate what other drivers are going to do, make eye contact, etc. etc. etc. Yes, stay alert!

I'm still new to bike commuting, but I to say I really enjoy cranking past a long line of cars waiting at a stop light and pulling up along side the car at the head of the line. Right, no track standing.

I know I need more blinkin' lights!

Good ride home tonight. About a third of the way, stopped and sat on a bench in Maplewood, eating a Cliff bar and watching the NYC commuters come in.

Great ride today. Hardly any wind.
All was great until I took my first spill on this new bike (Tried to turn sharply, but my pedal on the inside of the turn was down, and, well, I think you can guess the rest). Got some nice road rash on my right hand. Note to self: Buy gloves.

Nice ride! Saw a yearling buck on the side of the road who stood motionless until I was within ~ 20 feet of him, then later another larger deer, and a great Blue Heron. The best part was I took a different, slightly longer route in to work, and managed to ride a good 4 miles without being passed by a single car. Never had that happen before

Bikes: Too darn many.. latest count is 11

Great ride in. Cloudy and spit rain on occasion, but nice and cool. Perfect weather for some exertion.. Somehow managed to lop 7 minutes off my PR. Just felt really good and decided to bust some calories this am.

Why did I let the weather forecast stop me yesterday? It turned out there was no rain during my commute times.

So today I had a chilly ride into headwind, but a good feeling when done.

I just got back from a 4-day trip to Colorado. The temperatures were in the 70s and low 80s when I left NC, but were hitting the 90s when I got back. After 4 days of hiking in cool, dry weather in the Rockies, the heat and humidity of NC were quite a challenge. My ride home yesterday afternoon was one of my toughest in a while, despite 4 days of rest from cycling, which shows how tough the heat and humidity can be. I rode my SS this morning and felt much better with a fast commute time, but the ride home could be tough again as the high is supposed to reach the mid-90s.

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

Tried out my new FoxWear rain jacket for the first time. I never thought I'd complain about the weather when it didn't rain. Ah, well... maybe on the way home.

Very pleasant this morning....no cars tried to crowd me, the traffic lights generally were well timed, and the temps were perfect. Hope this evening is as nice.
