How was the commute today? Continued.

Took the hybrid out today, first time on it since the back injury in November. Felt odd after riding the MTB last couple week. But decent morning 37*F no wind.

I planned to ride today but I overselpt....
My wife had minor surgery this week and while she is doing well otherwise, apparently the pain pills she's been taking make her mutter in her sleep (and it sounds like she's asking for something). Just enough to wake me up, then when I ask her what she wants she mutters a little more and rolls over.
So when my alarm went off this morning I just rolled over and when back to bed. Even with driving to work I was still late.

Sleeting pretty good this morning but the roads still afforded good grip. I cut across a snowy field and was rather pleased at the grip 23C slicks can have in that situation. They whent through the snow like pizza cutters and contacted the ground beneath I guess. I arrived at work decently dry which was a nice surprise, I still haven't had to break into the emergency clothes.

Cool, fast and beautiful ... until I got to the part of the commute where the Ohio river had crept up over its banks onto part of the MUP that I ride part way! The Ohio is full of all kinds of junk around here, so that was ... um ... enlightening, if not particularly scenic.
Yesterday's ride home, however, was very nice. I ran into (well, not literally) another cyclist who was going my way. Seemed like a nice fellow. He was on a shiny road bike and eventually passed me.

0C/32F and a tiny bit of rain/sleet/snow falling. It's snowing a bit harder now that I'm inside and dry. Heard a squirrel chattering in the trees; I guess they were duped into thinking it was spring too.
On Tuesday, I had a kilometer of ice/hard-packed snow to ride through. Today, it was mud, and a thick sticky slushy type substance that was really difficult to ride through. Stopped me cold once because I didn't gear down quick enough.
Lots of other cyclists out this morning. There was one guy whose path converged with mine; he was way ahead when I got to the merge point, but I'm always up for a challenge so I gave chase. Alas, he was faster than me, and the gap widened instead of getting shorter.

My first commute of the year! It was 44F and I managed to dress appropriately so I was neither too hot or too cold, except for my ears and fingertips but they always bother me so that was nothing new. My bike is in great shape because of the maintenance from my LBS - new chain, brake cables/pads, etc. Aerobically, I felt great because of my off-season work but unfortunately my bad knee is really bothering me. It was a bit painful so I took it easy on the ride in. I saw a lot of other commuters, including two large groups of guys riding together and passed me without warning (a little annoying). Anyway, it was great to be on the bike, and hopefully my knee will get with the program soon.

Dead calm and 57F this morning. Perfect. And now it looks like the wind is kicking up for the afternoon and it will actually be a tailwind!!!!

Strange midwest weather. All week the morning commute has been in the 40's with the trip home ranging from the 40's to the 50's.
This morning it was about 34° and will be over 60° on the way home tonight. Tomorrow should be similar but snow is forecast for Saturday.

No wind at all today
I was happy to finally get my fenders on even though it didn't rain.

Nice 10degc strong southerly today. Pleasant enough cycle under an overcast sky with little hold up throughout the 19 mile trip in (lucky with traffic lights and traffic flow. Also featured a luck of insane / impatient drivers) so made good time. Worked late so cycled from Paisley to Glasgow then got the train home to the SE of Glasgow. Wanted to do the full monty but time was pressing on. had a nice coffee in Central station and read Private Eye (satirical mag) on the way back on the train. Yep! All in all it was very pleasant. Missed the down pours too. Bonus. 32 miles on the clock. I must say Bugly64 I'm looking forward to a set of mudguards/fenders as i'm sure the lack of them throughout the salt laden winter hastened the demise of my headset (bottom of)

My first ride since July 29, the date of my accident. I have been wanting to ride ever since I got out of the hospital, today was the day. Good weather, warm temp, and light wind. I'm a bit out of shape but I'll get it back soon enough. I rode my backup bike till my new build gets delivered. I'm wary of cars, I don't trust them. I have had too many close call in the past and although I can't recall my accident I am aware what they can do to you. I'm so happy!

Nice experience this am. I overtook two other cyclists and said "good morning" to each. I hardly ever see anybody during my commute, so it was a nice Copenhagenizing moment on Preston Hgwy in Louisville.

Nice ride in this morning, although it was hard getting up. My body still hasn't gotten used to the time change, even though I've been getting up at 5:30 am all week. We've had big swings in temperatures between morning and afternoon, typically about 30 F, which makes it hard to dress. Temps were in the upper 30s this morning and are supposed to hit 70 this afternoon. I'm not complaining though. That's part of what big seatbags are for - to carry all of the clothes and gear you shed in the afternoons.

First ride in on my new 2009 Fuji Comp Cross. Put fenders, rack, panier, lights, etc on it. Had such a great ride, I was using a Dahon Speed 7 (which was surprisingly good, but there is no comparison).
Beautiful weather up in Northern VA.

You got that right. Missed Wednesday and Thursday with some doctor's visits and then a cold, but the AWESOME weather this morning made me forget how stuffed up my head was as I rode.
Brilliant sunshine and temps around 40 this AM - supposed to be close to 70 by the afternoon. If only every day's weather were like today's (or a couple degrees cooler in the afternoon even), I'd be a happy camper. Too bad all this nice weather is just a lead in to four months of 80s and 90s. I hate hot weather.

Chilly but nice this morning. I started off a little sore and slow after a late start. Some roadie picked my pocket for a while before deciding to pass. I dropped in behind him for a little pull. I passed him on the 14th Street Bridge and accelerated. He fell in right behind me so, I went up a couple of gears. I inadvertantly shifted up into too high a gear and it took me a little longer to really get on top of it. He stayed right on my wheel for a while but then dropped back a ways and turned off to, presumably, do laps at Hain's Point. I'm glad he did since I was a little gassed at that point. Took it easy and spun the rest of the way in, had a nice conversation w/ another rider and am looking forward to the 70 + deg ride home.

Super mellow. Racing both days this weekend so I didn't even break 15mph on the way in.

Bikes: One brand-less build-up, and a Connondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra Disc. A nicer bike than I need, but it was a good deal, so... ;-)
Rusty...
No, not the bike, me! Because of my work schedule I didn't get int ot he gyum as much this winter as in previous years, and I felt it this morning on the commute. Not quite as much horsepower in the engine as I'm used to. It'll come back though...
Nice ride, anyway

Dark and peaceful one hour ride watching sunrise to the east. Starting to get faster again.
