How was the commute today? Continued.

left late for work today (waiting for my wife who wanted me to bike into work with her). Headwind meant her usual speed, which isn't all that bad, was much less than usual. Normally riding with her is one of the great pleasures of my day- but today I really wanted (needed) to make time. When finally we got to her turn off to work I hammered into the wind the rest of the way and ended up 8 minutes late- I don't like being late.
The ride home was far more pleasant with the wind at my back and we rode home together. Unfortunately, the temp had dropped and she had no gloves, no extra jacket- fortunately, I did- so she ended up wearing them.
All in all I wouldn't trade riding my bike to work and back with my wife for the world- it was worth it. Once she's ridden a bit more regularly again, she's a seasonal commuter, she'll get back in the groove. It was a great commute today.

Low 40sF, tailwind, and wet. It wasn't raining when I left, but it started to sprinkle about 5 minutes into my commute. By the time I got in, there was a steady light rain. I didn't see a single other human being on the MUP. 5 miles' worth. A good ride.
Even more worms on the road than yesterday. I was trying to avoid them.
Now I need to decide: Leave the bike at the office and go out drinking after work, or ride home and let my wife drive me back to the bar, as she offered to do.
(She's a keeper.)

Really enjoyed the cool temps this AM. Took an extra half hour and added a couple steeper hill climbs into my commute this AM as well as an extra 4 mile RT detour jaunt over to Nationals Park just for fun on my way to work. (Baseball spring fever has bitten, although I'm an even bigger hockey fan and the playoffs start next week, so I'm very excited! Go Caps!!!)

Pretty easy commute today. Rolled out of the rack, threw on some sweats, grabbed my cup'o'coffee, and went to the spare room/office.
Working from home today, might get myself out for a ride this afternoon.

Cool this morning, around 50 F. with a freakin' irritating headwind when I left just after 6 am. I was really dogging it until another fixie speedster passed me, this is the 2nd day in a row. I fell right in behind to see if I could keep up. I let him pull me along until we hit the 14th street bridge, I then thanked him and passed and used the rest of the ride ( +/- .5 miles) to cool down. The rest of the ride was uneventfull. I'm thinking of heading over to CVS to pick up some surgical masks for the ride home. The pollen has been incredible, my tires are yellow and I watched as sheets of the stuff blew across the trail/roads in front of me yesterday. I've been taking 2 Clarian tablets a day since mid-March and have, luckily, been ok, however it seems to be getting to me a little today (runny nose, itchy eyes, tired, etc).

Yeah, the wind has been a real problem the last week and a half. Morning temps in the upper 30's on Wed and Thurs. I thought it was spring. ;-)

Rainy, rainy, rainy, rainy...
My rain gear is working really well. I need a new chain and cassette, I've worn them down to stubs.

If your putting a lot of miles on your bike then a chain checker is a must-have for your tool box. Measure that chain stretch and replace as necessary. The chain is the most important part on a bike.

I rode the full 9.25 mile distance to AND from work for Saturday night's shift. Since I've been getting low mileage for about 10 months due to a wrist injury, these rides completely drained me.
After sleeping only 4 hours (and waking up several times to charlie horses), I rode another 2 miles while the weekend warriors were out in force. I kept dropping folks like they were standing still (it helped that my bike weighed about 20 lb less than usual and that my commuting bags weren't causing all sorts of drag).
My bike is getting new handlebars today so hopefully I'll be able to ride without putting weight on my wrist. If so, I'll be working my way back up to full commuting (without burn-out).

I love the trend I see of more folks wearing the hi-vis vests!
I think we all know how invisible we are out there. It's good to see that more people are doing a little something about it.

It was nice ride in at 10 C ( 50 F). This should be another week of warm weather, and it is very welcomed for early April, as I hope to stay in my shorts and sleeveless until Ocober.

Despite drinking entirely too much booze yesterday at an all-day brunch party, I managed to make it to work feeling pretty good. I wish I'd worn a light jacket, though. Shorts and a t-shirt in 55 degree weather? Not the best idea.

Not bad...lower 50's (F) and traffic was quite a bit heavier today then last week during spring break. Had one yokel that decided she couldn't pass me even though I was in a bike lane, and her lane was almost wide enough to be 2 lanes....WTF?! This state needs to increase the difficulty level of the driving test.

Low 30sF, tailwind, sunny. I came upon 4 deer shortly after leaving the house, stopped pedaling, and watched them as I coasted. They didn't much like me, and trotted off into the woods.

It was a good commute this morning at 42F and sunny with no wind. I didn't get very good sleep this weekend and i could tell because i wasn't as strong as i normally am. I'm definitely getting to bed early tonight.

I'd swapped out my Cyclo knobbies for the slicks a week ago.
There's one area on the commute, I'd hoped I'd never get a flat. Never did for years. Luck just ran out.

Spent part of Saturday morning patching tubes. The patch kit came with something and I had a bunch lying around. Will see how that goes.

Back on the bike after 2 weeks, while trying to recover from some knee problems. So far, so good! It is a beautiful day, and I had a nice ride in, with no pain. Hopefully I can ride 2 more times this week. I'm trying to ease back into cycling, while still doing the physical therapy.

Nice ride, left late but felt fast, I also decided to wear a surgeons mask to help cut down on my exposure to pollen. This, along with 2 Claritan a day, seems to really be helping-I haven't been suffering like years past. I had anticipated bad traffic once I hit DC but, it was quieter than usual. The nuclear summit is taking place today and tomorrow and everyone must be working from home so, I enjoyed a nice ride in and am I'm enjoying a quiet day at work. I hit the trails yesterday and my legs are feeling it right now. I got the 29er out and did a few laps at Laurel Hill. My legs felt surprisingly good for my first spin on the ss 29er and, the conditions were dry, fast and, fun, but, I'm paying for it now. Legs are a little tight and heavy feeling. We'll see what DC looks like on the way home today with all these diplomats zipping around town and rolling street closures.

Maybe.
Did you wear long sleeves? I didn't and felt a bit chilly especially at the outset. By the time I passed your house I was warmed up but still the air felt kind of cool... maybe it was just the humidity. I almost stopped a couple times to attach the sleeves to my jacket but didn't feel like stopping.

Yeah, I wore long sleeves over a tank top, so I can wear the tank top home tonight. Riding from the train station to the office about 8 am, I had to talk myself out of just not coming in to work today and just riding for a few more hours.

Yeah, it's that kind of day.
I forgot to mention earlier. I had a mildly annoying interaciton with a school bus. It seems like a significant portion of bus drivers just don't think too clearly are are just too impatient. Anyway, this was on a stretch of road where there are two lanes and absolutely no shoulder beyond the fog line, where the road is rather hilly. I came to an all-way stop. The bus was behind me by quite a bit, at least a quarter mile, when I stopped. The bus honked at me as I pulled away from the stop.... no problem, okay, I know you're there... I had to climb a hill after pulling away from the stop, and by the time I got to the top the bus was closing on me.... so he beeped again. Okay, so you want to get through; I understand that. But with no shoulder, where did he expect me to go? Besides, I was over the top and doing about 25-30 down the other side of the hill. I controlled the lane, taking away any possibility of a pass since there was oncoming traffic. I came up to the next 4-way stop, signaled my right turn, and turned. Danged bus turned too. Again, there was oncoming traffic. The bus was crowding me a bit, but I held my position and held my left arm out and down to let him know I knew he was there and that I did not think it was a good idea to pass. The line of oncoming cars finally passed and I shifted right a bit and waved the bus by.
I don't know, maybe the bus driver thought he was being helpful by honking to let me know he was there, or maybe he was impatient and really wanted to pass. That's the problem- you just can't tell. So I treat them all like a threat. Maybe I was just being oversensitive. The bus didn't blow by me, just did a normal pass.
But.... it was mildly annoying.
