Nice this morning, temps in the mid 30's. Supposed to be in the low 60's on the way home tonight. Wednesday and Thursday may be a bit wet.
This weekends snow is almost gone. Time for spring.

There was a fellow talking to himself in a bus shelter, but that is not unusual. He might have been speaking to me, but I don't hear well with my stretch hood on. When I retire, I may take up residence in a bus shelter and speak to people as they come in, or to myself when no one is there.

Rainy commute, but the truth is that I love rainy commutes. Part of that is the brevity of the ride; another part is that I feel I've finally figured out how protect my bike, and my person, and my stuff, from the rain.
I've put a couple of hundred miles on my B17 now, and it's fully broken in. It's got that ever-so-slight hammocky spring to it; and when I took a look this morning I noticed the sit-bone impressions. Yep -- she's all mine.

First bike commute in over a week. The wife had surgery last week and she requested I not commute in case I had to run home. Also, the weather has been crazy changeable- In one 24 hour period we had rain, then dry with 70 degree temps but 30+ mph winds, then snow. Craziness. This morning was pleasant though with a tailwind (which means headwind for the ride home). I was just shy of my shortest commute time. I also rode with the vintage Wrights saddle I bought off ebay that came in yesterday... nice.

My plan (nay, dream) is to become a Wal-Mart greeter and hand people their carts when I retire.

Nice clear morning. I decided to try the train this morning. It's only been running two days, so I was curious. It's alright I suppose. Still has some things that need to be worked out I think.

Oh! I almost forgot. My pedal fell apart on me when I was just a few blocks from work. I figured out how to make it function OK, but I'm going to have to replace it. One of the rivets broke. Oh well, I have been planning to get some new platforms soon anyway.

traveling for work. Going to scope out a potential route from the motel today, hopefully bike it the next 2-3 days however long I'm out here.

Pleasant ride in this morning. -5C/23F when I left home. We had an inch of snow Sunday night, most of which melted off the main roads already, but left some ice behind in the residential areas. The mini plows were out last night clearing the MUTs, so that was nice. I won't be taking the studs off just yet, though. Got chased by a dog while its owner screamed at it. Guess she needs to watch more Dog Whisperer episodes.
There was a nice, light, gentle snow falling for the second half of my commute. I didn't see any other cyclists out, but I saw some tire tracks in the fresh snow, so at least one other person was out riding this morning.

Had an eye appt. this AM literally right next door to my apartment building, so the commute in was delayed until now (i.e., lunchtime). Nice ride in. Temps around 50, cool breezes. Stuck with shorts and a couple tee-shirts and was quite comfortable. The flow of tourists in town for cherry blossoms seems to be ebbing as it invariably does this time of year... don't mind tourists too much, but I do dislike, as a cyclist and when I'm on foot, the big groups or families that manage to take up the entire width of a 15 ft wide path, walk real slow, and pay no attention to their surroundings. Argh...
I managed to get my front derailleur readjusted Sunday night and have enjoyed having my big chainring back the last couple of days. Still use the middle chainring most of the time, but it's nice to have the bigger chainring, too, especially coming down the back sides of the overpasses.

Otherwise, the rides have been nice, Summer's coming. I switched back to my timbuk2 messenger style backpack, it's a somewhat tighter fit than my regular backpack but, it offers much better water resistence-in fact, it's water proof which is good for what might be a really wet Spring. I'm hoping pull the fenders off by May and switch to faster rolling road tires. Have to replace brake pads, seat, too.

Thought I was going to get right hooked this morning. My own damn fault for not taking the lane more assertively. Just sort of zoned out there and next thing I knew a car was right on my left hip and gunning to get around. Hit the brakes, juked left and went around the other side.
Other than that, it was pretty uneventful.

It's been just fabulous. Still warm, some wind sometimes but not usually in the morning. Light traffic (although the baseball games start tomorrow so that'll all end in chaos - using bike video cam tomorrow to record ride near the stadium area as game ends and drivers get stuck in the construction..). Warm weather is great. I need to get my warm weather riding shirts out at this point already. Of course I may have just jinxed that.
Yesterday interesting incident: another cyclist & I waiting in right lane at light at Fairview/Denny. Tour bus on our left (I rode with him up Fairview - good driver). SUV behind us and a Metro bus behind him. Light turns green, cyclists proceed straight, SUV turns right onto Denny. Hear revving engine gaining speed behind me then "bbeeeeeeeeeeeep! beeeeeep! beeee...CRUNCH." The tour bus has completely pinned a little black Honda to the curb. Other cyclist and I look at each other, shrug, and proceed with no traffic following us (due to entire northbound lanes being blocked). Glad it wasn't us, but suspect that the driver of the bus, after the SUV turned right, was proceeding with a lane change and the little black car (fast accelleration) either made a quick right onto Fairview and tried to pass the bus, or zoomed from behind the bus and tried to pass (getting stuck behind us cyclists) and ended up in the blind spot of the bus.

Kinda chill this morning. Almost turned around and went back home. Not because of the weather, but I got a good distance from the house and realized that I didn't have my obnoxious yellow safety vest on.Oh well I have lights, I thought, Then a light fell off. Went back to get it. Then I realized I forgot my water bottle. Then as I was leaving work, I saw that my cage came off my pedal. Luckily I work at a machine shop and we have plenty of nut and bolts. But jeeze what a day.

A good ride in at 4 C ( 40 F). This afternoon is supposed to be warm, and sunny, so I will be looking forward to that. The wind was whipping up, especially on the top of the hills, hopefully that dies down. Warm winds are fine, but those chilly winds I can do without.

Actually, when I repacked the wheel to ship it back, I noticed the box had hole in the side. So, I think UPS was the culprit, not the bike store. That doesn't surprise me.
Had a great ride in this morning, although dressing for the weather is getting more challenging with the chilly mornings and warm afternoons of springtime. Trees and flowers are blooming all over the place now, but unfortunately I can't see them during my morning commute, which is mostly in the dark since the time change. On the plus side, afternoon temps are supposed to hit the low 70s the next couple of days here. Sweet.

33F (~0.5C) with a moderate tailwind. Some light snow left over on the ground from last night, but the pavement was just wet except for a wooden bridge deck on the MUP. I made good time again. Faster than yesterday, thanks to the wind.

Some heavy headwinds made this a pretty challenging commute this morning. 39F with winds from the NNW @ 16mph. I also had a minor issue with a chain derailment when i downshifted going up a hill. I had to stop to fix it, which took about 5 min because it also got stuck pretty bad.

Happy ride today. Just cool enough for long tights. Almost all green lights and steady speed - forgot to drink.

Nice ride in. It could have been ugly, with the two oblivious, oncoming riders on the MUP, riding two abreast and too involved in conversation to notice my 700 lumen LED headlight. In the darkness with the bends in the trail it was impossible to tell if they were singling up. They weren't.
No contact, no crash, so I shouldn't whine, but dang - I've seen those guys on the trail 20 times and they've never not noticed before.

Great commute in. Despite a fairly strong head/crosswind (15-25 mph), I managed to make the same kind of time I would on a windless day. The weather was gorgeous - temps in the 40s w/ brilliant sun. Looking forward to the ride home. I'm running some errands on the way home, so I'll get some extra time in the saddle!

The snow and ice have finally melted away and I was able to start commuting by bike again. What a wonderful feeling. I was on a cycling high when I got home from work, a feeling I havn't had in such a long time.

Ride home last night and this morning was a slushy mess. I had my first ever experience getting showered with slush from passing cars. Upon arriving home last night my helmet vents were completely plugged with snow and my bike was caked (and yes I do use fenders).
All in all, two great rides!!! I was reasonably comfortable with my rain/snow gear. It just took a little longer to get home last night and into work this morning.
Any other Front Range commuters ride yesterday and today?
Paul
