Nice fast comfy ride in today. The hills were feeling easy today after doing hill repeats on Sat and then taking a couple of days of rest.

Beautiful ride in today. My favourite riding weather; clear and cool and early enough that there was little traffic. Unfortunately, when I arrived at work I discovered that I had left my keys at home and therefore had no way to lock up my bike. After a few failed attempts to phone my wife to ask her to bring my keys I rode home (nice ride back, too), managed to wake my wife up to let me in, called in late for work, and drove the car in so that I wouldn't be any later.

Nice ride in this morning. No issues other than a minivan driver who stopped to drop off a passenger in a no-stopping zone by the sky train station, then proceeds to pull a 3-point turn in the middle of the road which is marked "no-stopping" on both sides of the street. This part of the road is on a slight gradient (station at Cambie and Marine coming up from Kent Ave) and as I stopped my bike and shook my head at his three point turn, he got all riled and upset. So he honked at me as I waited for him to complete his 180* turn. A pedestrian woman walking by also shook her head at his decision.
After he honked, I turned around and told him off something along the lines of "Are you kidding me? Doing a three point turn on a road marked no stopping on both sides?". I then pointed to my helmet and said, "Use your head!" At this point, he, a short Filipino man who obviously objected to my evaluation of his driving decisions, unclipped his seat belt. But I was done and it was time to continue my commute. If you know that section of road, you'll know why there is no stopping along both sides of the street by the skytrain station. But since there is no enforcement, cars and vehicles stop along that section all the time especially to pick up commuters alighting off the train after work. <sigh>
Be very careful if you ride downhill towards Kent. Between cars crowding and blocking the bike lane as they merge to turn west along Marine, pedestrians who cross the intersection on their red light as you are coming down the hill on your green light and cars waiting for passengers in the No Stopping zone, its a veritable death trap or an injury waiting to happen.

I think I've made it to one full month of commuting! Cool crisp and just a sprinkle of rain in DC as I was nearing my office. I went to my local bike shop for some deluxe chain oil this past Sunday and now my old bike is quiet as can be.

It was a cool ride in at 40 F ( 4 C). It won't be long now before the freezing mark in the morning is the norm, then below freezing will go on for months. I am ready for spring already.

Three for three so far this week, and I might be able to bike to work every day for a change. My bike commuting has been off the past couple of weeks due to factors beyond my control, but everything is working out great so far this week -- great weather, favorable work schedule, healthy. There's a good chance of rain today, but it was clear when I road to work and it's supposed to be clear again by late afternoon. Can't beat that.

No errant cagers for me today. 46F, overcast, with a headwind. Didn't see any other cyclists. I had to make a conscious effort not to turn and look at a woman runner as I passed her from behind. She had fantastic form, and her running seemed okay too.

Heh. Always an adventure.
It was actually warm here this morning, even at 6:00 AM was about 70F. I got a new pair of full-fingered gloves, thinking it was going to stay cool, but my hands were sweating by the time I got to work.
Also, just as I got to work, my homemade headlight mount (made of 1/4" lexan/polycarbonate) snapped off. I guess I will have to make something out of aluminum bar stock...

Good commute at 34F and partly cloudy with no winds. Starting yesterday till the beginning of next week, I'm house sitting for my mom's friend and I brought my trike. My commute went from about 1hr 20mins at 19.1 miles one-way to about 30 mins at 6.6 miles one-way.

First day back home after a nice, four day trip to Chicago => first commute since Friday. Cool (mid 50s) and cloudy. Just my kind of riding weather. I'll even take it a little cooler if I can have a long sleeve T.
I feel like I can already predict who will still be commuting this winter... those of us (like me) who were in shorts and a short sleeve shirt will be commuting come January. Those people already wearing full-fingered gloves, multiple layers on top including a jacket and gaiter -- probably not. Just guessing. I saw a few people dressed like that the latter this morning.
Chicago was cool. Bikes everywhere. And flat as a pancake. Man, I thought my commute was flat.
Anyway, thanks, Chicago, for a great weekend. Very fun town.

I took the short route to work this morning. Stayed up late last night waiting for my wife to come home.

5C/41F, calm and cloudy. Quite a dark ride in this morning, thanks to the cloud cover in the east. Lots of other cyclists out this morning; most were well lit, but there were a couple of requisite ninjas.
This is my first day riding this week, thanks to being sick for the first couple of days. The weather has been so awesome (for October), and we could easily get a cold snap any day now, so I feel like every day I miss riding is a day squandered.

Very pleasant ride this morning; cool temps (shorts, long sleeve wicking tee, and full finger gloves for me, though I might have been okay with short sleeves and fingerless gloves once I got going.) Half finger gloves for the ride home for sure!
Way too much traffic passing the local high school -- I almost had to look at my watch to see if I was especially early or late. No traffic at all on Chain Bridge Road, instead of the usual mile plus back up. My total riding time was 5 minutes less than normal, because I was able to ride down the hill at speed instead of creeping past the stopped cars!
Also -- This was my first ride with rack and panniers instead of a backpack. That's going to take getting used to, but that's the subject of another post.

I did the double commute again today.. That is ride my motorcycle to the gym, then haulazz back home to grab a bicycle to commute to work!
The only problem was, I had a hard time choosing which of my vintage bikes to take!!
One of my vintage raleigh competitions?

Or my vintage litespeed classic?

I am on the white competition!!!
Now, getting ready for my lunch ride!!

My commute in today started pretty great. It was just getting light out and the temperature was nice and cool but, not TOO cool. Left the coffee shop to head to work a little earlier than usual so traffic was much lighter. All was going really well until about the halfway point (still 7 miles to go) one the worst bloody noses I have ever had suddenly hit. It kept up the whole way to work. I got some good stares from people walking by me with my blood smeared face and my blood soaked beard. Hopefully the commute home will go better.

Great commute in on a warm day. Pumped up the tires at a gas station along the way. Did not climb like a freight train today but remember to spin up the hills instead of mashing. Only saw 1 driver texting or reading his cellphone in his 3500 lb BMW X5 SUV.

Gorgeous day in the Lower Mainland. Took the scenic ride in... about 20km. Enjoy it more that I expected. May try it again. But it is getting frosty....

A bit windy but still a nice ride today. I took a detour on the way back to stop for lunch downtown, and then get my gears adjusted at the bike shop. I figured since they said free adjustments for a year I might as well let them do it. Since I got my Trek 520 at the end of August I've put 1100km on it. Despite the detour, the trip back was 3/4km shorter than my normal route.
After 5 1/2 weeks of rain-free weather it looks like my luck is about to run out. Showers and flurries in the forecast for the start of next week. So much for having a clean bike.

Miserable. 15mph wind blowing steadily out of the SW this morning so I had to ride straight into it. The wind picked up to 20+ mph and shifted 180 degrees so I had to ride straight into it on the way home. Oh yeah, and it was raining and the temperature fell nearly 10 degrees in the previous hour. Yep, commuting season is almost over.
