Happy Days!

I now get to park my bike in the compound at work. It's a locked up area surrounded by an 8-foot fence topped with barbed wire. It's also under video surveillance by security. That being said, I'm still gonna use my Rambo u-lock and my Terminator square-linked chain!

Decent commute to the house where I'm house sitting. 58F and mostly cloudy with winds from the S @ 7mph. I left a bit later than I usually do on Wednesday afternoon and traffic was extremely heavy. During the trip, my fender was pretty much rubbing the rear tire the whole time. I pulled over to fix it in the very beginning but no sooner than I did that, it was rubbing again.

62f when I left the house at 6:40am. Dodged the rain and had a nice ride in for the middle of October. Ride home was nice as well.

No thanks, no winter bike commuting for me. After 1500+ miles on road bike this summer and fall, a winterized commuter going 12 mph doesn't seem appealing.

Hey everyone, there is a survey at the top of the index forum: https://www.bikeforums.net/announcement.php?f=20.

You could win a new cycling jersey if you complete it.

It was nice today in the morning, I live less than two miles away from work so it takes me about 10 minutes to get to work. I came home for lunch as well =)

Good ride in on my MTB at 42 F ( 5 C). My commuter needs work, so it is a change of pace to be on the other bike. I love my MTB on bad winter days, it really holds on to the road. Although, if we did not get bad winter days, that would be OK too.

I did my first commute in the dark last night. I used the Planet Bike lights I bought a few years ago so I could ride in the park in the evening, and these were mostly adequate. Since I'm in NYC I don't really need them to see the road, just so I stand out. I don't know how many times I'll really do this though. It wasn't all that cold yesterday but I could see myself not wanting to have to get on the bike in the dark and the cold after a long day at the office. I figure I have maybe one or two more commutes in me this year. My alternate is the subway, so it isn't like I'd need to drive instead.

Weird commute this morning. It got extremely foggy about halfway to work, so thick that I had to pull over and remove my eyeglasses. Fortunately I can see well enough without them, but the fog was still so thick that I had to ride slower than usual. Some of the traffic lights weren't visible until you got within about 50' of them. We don't get a lot of fog around here, and I'm thankful for that.

That happens up here in VT too. I got to work yesterday (mid 40s) and someone said, "You're still wearing shorts?!"

Fairly warm this morning at 50F. I almost didn't wear a jacket, but the weather guessers think it might rain so I thought I'd be prepared. The wind was mostly across my path, but would swirl from time to time. Saw one other cyclist going the other way.

^^sd790 - yikes! Hope you didn't get hurt in the process of snapping that crank arm off.

The thermometer read 0C/32F, but it felt warmer than that. Nice ride in. Colder days are coming. I kinda cut off a big rig this morning, for which I immediately felt both sorry and very stupid for doing. It wasn't exactly a close call, but I think I made him go for his brakes.

Started peeing blood (hematuria) last night after boxing workout (think it was the heavy bag workout which did me) and went to hospital to check. Gotta to lay off any exercise for few days and see what happens. No riding until we know...

left home about 6:50, it was close to sunrise when I got to work about 7:20. It was light enough to see well without lights after about 5 minutes out. Cool, maybe 5 C. Nice views of the mountains just west of Boulder as I came down the hill from the east.

Bikes: Sales

Started a new job about a month ago and I've held off bike commuting due to wanting to give a great first impression, find the best route, etc. This morning was my second commute into work. Left at 6:50 am (still dark of course), as low as 42 degrees (according to my Planet Bike computer), 9.8 miles, a few good hills. Rode in on my Trek Soho S (single speed). Absolutely LOVED IT!!!!

I wore shorts and was only cold for the first mile-and-a-half. It's good to be back in the saddle.

This is addicting... Rode to the gym again on my motorcycle, and haulazz back home to grab a bike for the commute to work.. Temps around 45, up to about 65 now.. Great ride, I gave a couple people the THREE FINGER.. One person stopped at a light asked me what was the 3 finger bit for? I told them that it is the LAW to give me 3 FACKIN FEET CLEARANCE!!

Wonder weather this morning, around 50F with a little wind. Had to go the the Dr for the annual visit. Took the long way there and the long way from there to work (I had half the day as vacation so I could take my time). From home to Dr to work was 35.7 miles. They should all be this nice.

Ugh! Hope things look up.

BTW: I was chuckling at the BMW X5 weight. given that most modest size passenger cars now weigh over 3000lbs, I knew the X5 had to be more. I'm a geek like that.

Seriously, though -- get better quickly!

No morning commute for me today. Had to drop my son off at daycare and be at work in time for a "Town hall" presentation... Yesterday was a little eventful. A transit bus tried to shove me into oncoming traffic when he pulled out of the bus stop! I rode slowly down the centre of the lane after passing him to make sure he could see me after I completed the pass. Rode into MEC in Vancouver to get new brake pads and a bell (I'm finally legal! :O ). Two blocks from home I met the scofflaw cyclist in person and wanted so badly to smack some sense into him. He ran the stop sign without looking and nearly hit me, rode on the wrong side of the road, made a left turn from the oncoming lane while running another stop sign and filtered up the right hand side past cars signalling a right turn. Now I know why motorists hate us. Nothing this guy did was legal or predictable.

Shift cable to the rear wheel broke just as I was pulling into work yesterday morning. So for the ride home I got to experience riding with a single gear.

With my knees, it's not something I'd like to do on a regular basis.

I'm not sure if I had a great commute in or a really bad one. On one hand my bike's headtube broke, but on the other hand, it did so as I was pulling into my workplace. So while it does seem pretty bad... it could have been much worse I suppose?

Otherwise, I was having a wonderful commute in this morning! The wet, cold and high winds didn't bother me one bit.
