64 degrees, slight rain when left on my 10 mile commute. By mile 6, it was a deluge of rain...I got SOAKED, but completely AWESOME ride in to work everytime I arrive in the rain, my coworkers think I'm nUtz, but I smile even bigger

Nothing, absolutely nothing makes me a better employee than arriving to work stress free after a bike commute

Bikes: Catrike Trail Recumbent trike

Excellent commute this morning at 48F with fog and mist with no wind. I'm getting faster on my recumbent trike, at least the commute that I have now at 6.6 miles. I was also running late, so maybe that helped speed me up a bit.

Pouring rain out today. about 9C/50F. First half of the commute was uneventful, even the section through Brunette River Trail. Had to hop over a downed tree limb that came out of nowhere. I guess my light isn't strong enough. Riding down Winston, a bus tried to throw a left cross my way. What is with bus drivers in this city?!? Coming up Burnaby Mountain Parkway, about halfway my RD explodes... I managed to put it back together, but I think I'm missing the bushing and cover for a jockey wheel. The drains on Burnaby Mountain are full of leaves so there were a few deep puddles to cross. I made it into work not terribly late, but a little colder than I expected. Stopping halfway up the mountain for a repair really sucks the heat out of my hands.

Low 60s and some clouds by the time I left, but a nice tailwind much of the way. Always nice to roll along the MUP down by the river at 20mph w/o too much effort. Especially when you're already running a little late for work.

Forecast is for thundershowers this afternoon. Hope I manage to miss them. If not, oh well... that's why I have fenders and a rain poncho!

-1C/30F, dark, breezy, and light snow/sleet. The roads were wet, not icy, for the most part, except for a bridge deck that had a layer of snow on it.

On a sheltered, downhill section of a MUT, there was about 1/2" of wet snow. I usually bomb down the hill at 45+km/h, but I took it easy today (don't have the studs on yet!). I wasn't fast enough for some guy behind me, though, and he pulled out to pass me just as I was meeting another (well lit) cyclist coming from the other direction. It was pretty tense for a couple of seconds as the guy trying to pass me hit his brakes and pulled back in behind me, nearly clipping my rear wheel. He got a stern, "Good one." from the other cyclist. Boneheaded move if you ask me.

Later, near the top of the climb out of the valley, I witnessed a fender bender (rear-ending) between two cars. I stopped to give my name and phone number as a witness. It wouldn't surprise me if my presence came up on the incident reports...not to blame me necessarily, but I wonder if the driver of the rear vehicle was watching me instead of the guy ahead, who had stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Anyway, it was a pretty minor accident, no injuries, thankfully.

48F and RAINING

I only really got *soaked* though when, a mile from the office, I stopped at a stop sign next to a huge lake of a puddle, 4" deep, and a jacked up jeep bombed through it while I was waiting. Next time I'm totally rushing that sign.

Oh yes, this was the weekend most of the leaves came down, so there is about an inch of leaf pulp over most paved surfaces. I am digging those 35mm tires right now.

Bikes: 2009 Trek 520

7C and misty fog, the ground was wet from rain last night, great weather. I took the MUP and encountered several ghosts coming out of the mist.

I decided to take the mountain bike to keep my Trek 520 clean. I haven't rode the mountain bike in months and it felt really weird, I felt like turning back immediately to take the 520 instead. Slippery platform pedals, weird cramped riding position, spongy feel due to lower pressure slicks and suspension seat post, and flat bars making my wrists sore. If this is going to be my winter bike I'll have to at the very least put drop bars and different pedals on it.

Maybe I'll just ride the Trek 520 during the winter, its supposed to snow tomorrow so I'll put my cyclocross tires on tonight.

Epic saga! My patch did not fail. There was another hole, suspiciously close to the hole I patched. Very suspicious. The LBS couldn't find anything in the tire, and neither could I, so they replaced the tube.

Got the back back in the office and just for the heck of it, really carefully examined the tread. I saw a little nick in one of the knobs and pried it open with a fingernail. Something shiny was in there! Stupidly, I started picking at it with my Leatherman to see if I could dig it out. Guess what happened next? "Psssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss......"

Back to the LBS. He picked out a bunch of broken glass bits and blew through the hole with compressed air. Hopefully that's the end of my bike problems.

It beats getting a flat on the ride home!

Those little shiny pieces in miniscule holes in the tread were the bane of my existence for a couple months with increasing frequency. Finally, I eventually decided that flats at least twice a week and approx. 3,000 miles on my cheapy tires, it was time to replace my tires. New tires on for three weeks or so and not a sinlge issue. Ah... piece of mind.

My lights decided to fail halfway home tonight. After checking as best I could I gave up and pushed the bike home. One of the bulbs has burnt out, but with a replacement they still don't work. May be an excuse to buy some LED lights...

Great commute home at 58F and mostly cloudy with winds from the WSW @ 5mph. At one of the stop lights, they were doing construction and I was stopped by one of the police officers that were there. He commented on my trike and asked me some questions about it, which was kinda cool. I should mention that this will be the last day of a 6.6 mile commute to school. I'm done with house sitting and heading back home Tuesday. Back to a 19 mile commute one-way.

I rode my bike... it was good... weather was nice and I was early, so I did a loop around campus before heading to my building. Mild day on Long Island, might take the long way home...

First "winter" commute of the year and am happy I installed the studded front tyre as the bridge was a km of packed snow and ice and will be uglier when I ride home.

smooth sailing for me down the Mall this morning in the dark and then back up this evening. (I signed up for our new DC Bike Share, it's amazing. I was cruising around downtown in my business attire last Friday.)

The way there was uneventful, but there was an AMAZING tailwind on the way home, ~14 mph. A bit chilly, but got to watch the sun set and go quite fast.

Enjoying the unseasonably mild weather we're having in these parts. Still riding into work (nightshift) in shorts & jersey and a light windsuit for the ride home. Unfortunately the mild temps are accompanied by a lot of precipitation. Oh well, I'll take a little rain over the snow and ice for now; the longer I can go without having to mount my studded tires the better.

Great warm ride in at 58 F (14 C). I love these odd fall days when it is warm in the morning. I took forever to go to bed last night, because just sitting
by the open door and letting the warm night in was a thrill.

Yep, I feel for you. I have lost tubes and tires to glass over the years, but I am quick at changing tube/tires in the cold and snow, and that
is a good thing.

Hard to do this on the road, especially when dark/cold/wet, but an easy trick for detecting insidious bits of glass remaining inside the tire is to drag a cotton ball through the entire inside circumference. The cotton should snag on any offending bits left behind.
