Vasectomy aftermath

Hopefully this isn't TMI. I thought it would be useful for other daily commuters. I got snipped on 4/9 and was a bit sore for the first few days last week and did not ride. I was on vacation Thursday and Friday last week, so was off the bike all week.

I resumed commuting Monday with out any pain or issues. The biggest complaint is things are a little itchy as the hair grows back in.

One week is a good recovery time.

I had the procedure done about five years ago and a little over a week sounds like a normal recovery time.

It's been quite a while for me, and I wasn't riding a bike at the time, but the only real issue I had was a little tiny bit of bleeding for about a day. Not really sore at all.

My wife had me fixed after 22 year old son came along so I can't recall too many details but do recall that there were no problems. A week or two sounds about right.

It's really no big deal.
It's been 20 years, but I think the only reason they give you Valium is because your nards are shaved and Mr. Happy is taped to your belly while nurses are milling about.
After a tab of Valium you really don't care what's going on.

I went with a local anesthetic. 1/2 hour later, I was driving my wife and I back home.

Man, I can just stay home and shave them without the rest of the hassle.

Nah, I know I gotta take care of it eventually.

Weird. Why does one have to have their reproductive system cut in two? I can think of another way to cut the reproductive system in two.

My wife had a mild stroke 7 months after we wed in 2002, both of us in our 40's. Her neurologist said "No more BC." OK, digging around in the dark for six months for condoms was just wrong. I won't elaborate. I decided, for HER health to just man up and slam it out of the park. You guess the rest.

I understand your thoughts completely since I had the same thoughts as well, nothing like thought of someone putting a knife to your scrotum. It's been almost 30 years for me, between the sedative and the local anesthetic, it was over and done with in no time.

It was such a non-issue, I'm amazed people are scared of it. Local anesthetic, about 25 minutes. There was no pain at the time, just chatting with the doctor while he worked, and afterwards for maybe 4 days about as much soreness as if I'd made a small cut on a finger or something. Bleeding on and off for 2 days, due to the very mobile nature of the site, total about enough to fill a thimble about 1/4 full. Absolutely no side effects other than no more pregnancy. Zero change in anything related to sexual activity.

It is a really simple and fast procedure. They just make a small incision in the scrotum and stick an eggbeater in there.

Bikes: See my sig...

Drove myself home after it was done... the procedure was nothing.

Kicked back in my armchair to relax and had closed my eyes, heard the pitter patter of little feet, and a little girl yelling "Daddy!" just before she launched herself straight into my lap.

The freezing was just starting to come out at this point and my daughter thought she had killed me... there was a lot of bruising and recovery took just a little longer than it should have and I needed a few extra days off from work.

Still... it was all worth it.

Hey.. I got to lay around for a weekend and watch movies. It's was the most relaxation I had gotten since my daughter was born about a year prior (my son was 4 at the time). Definitely better than what my wife would have had to go through.

Bikes: 1940s Fothergill, 1959 Allegro Special, 1963? Claud Butler Olympic Sprint, Lambert 'Clubman', 1974 Fuji "the Ace", 1976 Holdsworth 650b conversion rando bike, 1983 Trek 720 tourer, 1984 Counterpoint Opus II, 1993 Basso Gap, 2010 Downtube 8h, and...

As for the procedure... they keep that OR cold, and I was awake enough to notice that (and not enjoy it).
Also, they use some high heat to cauterize something or other down there, and I was awake enough to notice that burning flesh smell (and not enjoy it).
And I was awake enough to follow the conversation the doctor and nurses were having... about some totally random thing I've forgotten now, but it seemed pretty strange to me at the time.

That's the worst of it, though. Totally not a big deal.

The only thing I said was, "Am I bleeding yet?"

BTW, I select your response the best in this thread.

BTWx2, you'll still be able to sit on a bar stool.

You got Valium? All I got was a series of shots in the scrotum to numb it. Too bad it wasn't numb before they did that.

There were no nurses in the room during the procedure, just the doctor and I. It was awkward. I drove home afterward. I laid in bed for a couple of days. It wasn't a big deal.
