33 degrees on the pre-dawn portion of the commute, fresh and still as I was cruising the side streets. Only encountered one car. Windless and 56 on my way home this afternoon, couldn't have asked for a better commuting day!

A bit cold on the way in, had a head wind the entire time. I wore my jacket but then overheated (I think I hate wearing jackets unless its 40 or below)
Locked up in front of the restraunt and worked my ass off.

Ate lunch and rode home. I had to pee so I pee'd behind a dumpster by the ocean.

My entire 12 mile commute home was in a headwind. Even when I turned I was faced with more headwind.

I've been commuting for a while now and I'm becoming more and more tired every night. During the day after a good nights sleep I'm alright though.
7 days a week of commuting 22+ miles round trip. My legs are going to get huge.

Cold (22 F.) on the way out, but I doubled up on socks under my cycling shoes, tripled up on gloves (made shifting just a tiny bit tougher, but no real issues), and wore my jacket over polypro base layer and light wool sweater. Only one layer (over shorts) on the bottom--Reebok light running pants. Love 'em. Balaclava, but pulled the mask under my chin halfway there.

I noticed something on the morning commute. When I drive (which I have to do two or three days a week), on cold mornings, there's an intersection where the needle on the temperature gauge finally moves off "C" and I can turn on the heat. On my bike commute, I approach that intersection from a different direction, but it turns out that's the exact spot most mornings when I stop feeling at all cold. Two completely different modes of transportation but the same feeling, and for the same reason: the engine's warmed up.

The way home was warmer and I was feeling great, but had my first close call of 2012. Was going up a little hill to an intersection where I have to make a left. Got within about 100 feet of the intersection and looked to move off the curb and into the lane. Checked my mirror and saw a pickup pretty far back. He looked to be moving pretty fast, but he had plenty of time to see me (and I'm very visible--I'm a hi-viz geek). I signaled left and moved over. Got to the center line to give him room to pass me on the right if he wanted to. I guess I misgauged both his speed and what a tool he was, because within three seconds I get blasted with a horn and the dips**t blows past me on the left.

Felt the rage start to flow. Screamed out a loud, "WTF [uncensored version] and started to stand on the pedals, but thought better of it. At that speed, I'd need a rocket to catch him, and I didn't really want to deal with him.

Lesson learned? Watch out for the speeders. I assumed it was okay to move left because of the distance this guy was behind me, but I didn't watch him long enough to check his speed, which was way, way over the speed limit.

I was right, and that counts for something, but if he'd hit me, it would have been very bad news.

So, all things considered, not a bad day on the bike.

I'm really beginning to like riding in the cold. I don't sweat, I don't arrive overheated, and whatever issues I do get are solved with a cup of hot coffee on arrival.

Yesterday, I got T-boned by another bicyclist in the back alley behind my home. Bike and I were both unharmed. Dunno about the other guy.

Coldest day of winter for Athens, with temperatures ranging below zero Celsius. With all the info I've read on BF, I was able to dress appropriately and except for my hands which were extremely cold even though I was wearing some descent quality gloves, everything else was nice and comfty.

Unfortunately I did manage to have a problem with my brakes due to the code weather (post found on mechanics), but still managed to arrive safely at work.

Somewhat chilly, but decent riding weather at 40f (4C). I saw a glimmer of sky this morning around 5:35. It was just enough to let me know that we are moving into the light direction. There were a few clouds, and light pollution seemed to light them up.

Broke out the short pants in anticipation of 60 degree temps for the way home this evening. Cold knees coming in!

Chilly commute this morning because I dressed a little lighter in anticipation of mid-60s temps this afternoon. My legs were tired from a long ride on Sunday and faster-than-usual ride Monday, plus I had a headwind all the way to work, so my time was about 5 minutes slower than yesterday. The days are getting noticeably longer and my headlights are becoming more important for "being seen" than actually seeing the road. I've finally worked off most of the weight I gained over the holidays and shooting for a new record low (165 lbs).

Well, the commute hasn't happened yet. I was loading the bicycle when a person in his twenty's asked in broken English if I had any scrap metal. I did, so I gave him a couple of broken garage door springs. We chatted a bit about bikes and then he went on his way. I live in the city and my garage opens onto an alley. A couple of minutes later I hear him calling me and he comes back to my garage and hands me a wallet, full of credit cards, etc. and a bunch of envelopes. He says he found it in the alley. It looks like it was stolen from a car and ditched after the cash was taken. So I am still waiting for the police to show up. Anticipate a nice commute though, in the 30's here, suppose to hit upper 50's.

-7C nice ride this morning. There are a couple traffic lights that I can trigger if I weave back and forth across the full lane as I approach the intersection. All of our automated intersections are camera based, as I think frost heaving would destroy in ground sensors. My rear brakes are getting a bit sticky in the cold, I should probably deal with that before it gets too bad.

Working earlier hours this week because of board week at my workplace. Even though I'm having to work slightly longer days, the earlier day means it's still light out when I go home, something I really enjoyed last night. I like riding in the dark generally, so I think I'm just enjoying the novelty of riding home in daylight.

Great ride in this morning. Bit of a tailwind and temp right around 40°F/5°C. Made good time...

Forecast high today of 66. That's gonna feel like blistering heat after the last few months of cooler temps!

46 degrees in january in chicago is nothing short of an outright blessing.

the weather folks are talking about us potentially hitting 60 degrees this afternoon and setting an all-time record.

WTF happened to winter this year? when it's colder in athens than it is in chicago in january, something has gone pretty freaking wrong!

It's Spring in central Ohio. 45 degrees at 7:45 when I started my commute. The sun came out--absolutely beautiful. Also for the first time in a while I rode on non-studded tires. Made my touring bike feel like a racing bike.

It is insanely warm for this time of year! Had a great ride in on the bike path (against the flow of bike commuter traffic). Other cyclists were cool - only one bike ninja and nobody had a high powered light on strobe (I don't mind the high powered lights ... but on strobe? Blinding!)

42F, sunbreaks. Forgot to pack rainpants, but that won't be an issue for another 8 hrs...

Today's ride was/is my shortest option - - to and from metro. Even though my ride lasted only a few minutes, I got to see some great sights. Most particularly, I saw a young whitetail buck bounding along next to the MUP, which was impressive.

Last night's ride home was pretty nice. The best part was getting almost all the way home before darkness fell. Combine that with the 60 degree temps forecast for this afternoon, and one wonders if it is actually spring, and not winter as the calendar tells us.

I wore my rain pants but didn't really need them. I wore shorts under them so that's what I'll wear for my long ride home... in the day time for a change!

Dry and about 45 degrees, finally. Commuter bike is in the shop getting fender eyelets installed so I rode the old Cannondale six13. Forgot how incredible Dura Ace (7800) is. It just shifts, wherever, whenever, up hills, down hills, barely moving, no having to plan ahead or kick the front derailleur to get the chain to drop into the smaller gear.

I have SRAM Force on my commuter (first time with SRAM) and while I do like the DoubleTap action, I feel it falls short of Dura Ace. I went with SRAM on my commuter after all the positive reviews, maybe my SRAM just isn't tuned properly.

Heavy snow this morning made for a very slow commute. Coming home, the roads were clear, though narrow due to all the plowed snow in the bike lanes. We're getting ready for a cold wave later this week. It started in Sibera and has been affecting much of northern Europe already.

Very windy. A brisk walk would have been better.

The commute to and from work has become 'common place' after only a few weeks. I get up in the morning, get rigged to ride, have my breakfast and then get out on my Bacchetta and go! The afternoons have been windy, but since the first week I have had no near misses, no flat tires, no angst...it's gotten a little boring! I should knock on wood I guess, it's been fun, and I really enjoy getting on my bike twice a day and making the 8.29 mile ride. The mileage really racks up when you ride nearly every day too. I'm thinner and, I'm sure, healthier than I was when I drove my pickup to work, and I haven't bought a tank of gas in three weeks!!!! Lots of good things about commuting on a bike....

The coldest day of winter so far with wind chill temperatures reaching 7 below (Celsius) with gusts of wind reaching 40mph made my morning ride difficult, tiring and at times dangerous since I was getting blown around the lane. To top off the weather, my commuter also developed a problem with the brakes (binding) which made my ride that much harder. On the bright side, I received some money which I thought was forever lost which balanced the day out! lol
