No commute today...it's Saturday!! Woo hoo!

I might go for a pleasure ride later though.

Nice weather, light traffic. Not bad.

I confirmed that my route is faster than the nearby bike path that I parallel. I twice caught up with a faster rider after he took the bike path and I took the road route. :-)

I did! I did some adjustments/lubes to The Rig and took her out this afternoon for a fun ride around the local businesses. Relaxing!

Yup, pleasure ride it was!
Not that regular commute to work isn't. It just no time constraint is better.

A good ride in at 31 f ( -1C). The construction folks were not digging up a road I usually travel on this morning. With all the trenches on the road, it's a bumpy ride.

Bikes: Specialized Allez 09 turned commuter, Raleigh Olympian in the works, 10 other frames and boxes of parts I want to work on when I get the chance.

On my way in yesterday I thought I was late, hammered the entire way there, ended up being an hour early. Sooo I went down the street and got some lunch before work and that was nice.
On my way back I took it easy spinning the whole way home as I've only been commuting for a few weeks non stop and my legs are still getting used to it.
I had to take a few months off due to a knee injury.

Chillier than I expected with the headwind. I was getting used to the warm temps from last week.

Nice commute for a Monday with temps in low 30s and very light headwind. Rode my fastest commuter, the De Bernardi, which is mainly faster because it's lighter with narrower tires and a smaller seat bag. It's fun to ride because of the racing geometry, bullhorn bars and downtube shifters, but not the bike to ride when rain is possible because it doesn't have fenders. I made good time considering the headwind and tired legs from riding 52 miles in very windy weather.

Another week of above freezing temperatures! The roads are in better than spring conditions.

Easy, easy ride in with only a slight headwind.

It's been a chilly couple of mornings riding home, cool evenings. And yesterday morning I had a wonderful ride home; Sunday mornings are so peaceful!

This morning, I'm toodling along and a gold Ram Crew Cab passes me with the driver honking the horn. I somehow reacted by waving my whole hand instead of just one finger. About a 1/2 mile up the road, I see the same Ram at the gas pump (no doubt putting a hurting on his wallet). Another 1/2 mile down another road, the child with the adult-sized Tonka passes me again, honking again. I again waved. Another mile down the road and the light turned green before I could catch up again so I could grin and wave at his rearview mirror.

I'm grateful for the grin-and-wave advice I picked up on here; it was waaay more fun than letting myself get angry and react with aggressive finger-waving and yelling obscenities. It was awesome practice for the next time I tow the daughter around (now that she's beginning to learn to speak).

Agreed. Felt cooler than the reported 34° when I left. Still a nice ride in. Just took a little extra time to get warned up. Stopped off at the bank to get a little cash from the ATM.

Did have one guy pass me uncomfortably closely near my house. I had my PB Super Flash plus one other blinkie on so there's no reason he should not have seen me. In situations like this I don't know what to think. Either the guy was being a dick, or he was multitasking at the wheel and didn't see me b/c he wasn't looking. I'd probably actually prefer the former because at least then I know they're watching where they're going and probably not actually going to hit me. If they're not paying attention, OTOH, who knows what could happen?

As for last rec'd warm temps, time to get used to them again. Temps forecast for the next couple afternoons are in the sixties.

Where, o where, has my beloved winter gone?

Surprisingly, I saw fewer riders than expected. It's cooler than last week but by no mean cold here.

First ride in two weeks, because of wet weather, job and kid stuff, etc... I felt fat while climbing most hills, but my rhythm was ok. Hopefully I'm back to riding several times a week, if the weather cooperates.

I still have some minor driveline issues, as I'm getting FD rubbing on the chain when I'm on the middle ring, and the middle cogs -- I feel like I should be able to use the middle ring for almost the entirety of my 8 speed cassette, with some minor interference, perhaps, at the top and bottom. Interestingly, I have almost no interference on the smallest chain ring all the way down to the second or third smallest cog. And I think I have interference in the biggest chainring on the smallest cog, which definitely t'aint natural!

First bike commute of the year for me. I didn't want to record an "oh for January" so today was the day. There was just a fine mist as I left the house... but the rain kept gradually intensifying as I got close to work and 20 miles later it was heavy rain. I got soaked. I'm not exactly thrilled about the prospect of riding home in damp clothes but it was the best morning I've had so far this year.

There is one other possibility; they have no real sense of 'how close is too close' -- I feel like I can usually tell when someone is trying to be a jerk. But I notice that with some vehicles (esp. school buses from small schools) they really have no sense of how close they are to the right-hand side of the road.

Nice ride. 45F, gray. My usual choice of routes is down to pretty much only one possible approach due to treefalls and roadwork.

This morning's commute was extremely difficult and added about twenty minutes to the journey. The community trail was cratered with thousands of frozen footprints with a dusting of snow on top that caused my front wheel to dance side to side with every pedal stroke. A detour from the trail had to be made returning to the partially snow bare city streets with a slushy snow pile in the curb lane. A school bus forced me into this porridge slop at one point but I kept the bike in the vertical position, just barely. With temperatures at minus five I still managed to become quite sweaty by the time I reached work. The ride home may be difficult as well for the weather guessers are calling for more snow. I am ready for spring.

Thought it was quiet, i was still subscribed to the 2011 edition...

Over the Christmas vacation, I made a decision to do the complete commute at least once a week, it's a 46 mile round trip. I wanted a more appropriate bike for my Randoneurring rides as well as the commute, and found an '89 Bianchi Volpe at the end of the year.

All was great until the second or third trip where the temperature was around 26F and the wind was high and from the North, so I decided to take the train home. Half a mile from the station a car decided not to yield to me (he was at a stop sign, I wasn't) and cut across. He (60 year old man) got cited for this and not wearing corrective lenses.... Still waiting on the check from the insurance company. Apparently it's 20% my fault the guy hit me... No point fighting it over $40...

I have the bike back and rode in this morning. Beautiful weather, 38F average, nice views, a bit dark at 6.30 but I got my 23 miles in 1hr33. I managed to smuggle the bike into the office! I did have a smile when I went under 121 and saw it backed up for miles...as I cruised underneath it on the way to cut across the park!

I even had my laptop and charger ~10lb in my panniers..I normally leave this at the office..

24F, dry, uneventful. I replaced the chain and RD cables/housing yesterday, so the bike ran super smooth today. Derailleurs require so much more attention than IGH's =)
On that note, I'm growing VERY weary on waiting for my frigging frame to arrive (Singular Gryphon). When I deposited my money in August, the estimate was late October. The frames have (apparently) been on the dock in the US since Dec 13 and now I'm getting mixed signals on whether or not the frames are on their way or if they are still caught up with customs. UGH!
I've been riding my son's 29er for 7 months now - I'm long overdue (IMO) for the frame, and in retrospect should have spent an extra $400 and had a custom frame made by my local builder. Oh well. It will be a nice bike, I'm just sick and tired of waiting.

Last two weeks roads hereabouts have been snow covered. Last Friday they started clearing off. Woke up this morning to a surprising 42°F! With a 25 mph wind out of the NW. Work just happens to be NW from where I live. I could not stand passing up the nice warmish temps for this time of year. Turns out i over dressed for the wind chill. I had been planning on going back to cycle commuting on Feb. 1 anyway if the roads were snow free, two days early will not hurt.

I didn't post up, but I have a sweet commute on Thursday, Friday, and come Monday it was even sweeter.. On Friday some jokesters at work, move my bike, and the chain slipped off, and the cables got out of adjustment. Had to take it to a shop on Saturday. Today I am another bike, and gave noticed to all, I will let this one pass, but in the future, no kidding around with my bicycle or motorcycle. I leave at 6 am in the morning.. Dark out. I am running cheap-cheap flashlights up front, and they are doing the job too.

Great to be back and looking forward to many happy miles.
