Already 75F when I came in this morning. Forecast to hit 90F this afternoon, chance of isolated t-storms.
The bicycle commuters at my job all met at lunchtime yesterday (all four of us) and had a maintenance session. My rear derailleur was adjusted and it is now shifting perfectly. It was all cable tension.

Another nice and sunny morning, with little or no Wind.
The same bird again this morning, it's now the third morning in a row. This morning it took me by surprise a bit because I didn't have my blinky, I completely removed it from the helmet before leaving the house this morning but the bird still tried to grab my helmet.
For the next few day I'll have my camera ready and I'll try to take a selfie of my self and the bird. For the first time ever I wish I had a GoPRo...

The commute last night was nice. I was a bit slow I think, even though I was rushing. I missed not having my computer which got flooded and reset with the rain we got Sunday. I need to remeasure the circumference and reset it all.
My wife got me an Under Armor florescent green runners shirt. It is crazy bright, it is almost distracting to me. It is a slight variation of this:
Men?s HeatGear® Flyweight Run ¼ Zip | 1246338 | Under Armour CA
Anyway at a stop sign a driver told me how good my shirt was. I said thanks and it made me happy that is visible to drivers. I usually wore a white long sleeve with a high vis vest (I still wear that). the vest is lost in the shirt now though.
It was a nice commute today, though I have a really tight spot in my mid back, actually was a bit uncomfortable. Of course my son did not want to stay at day care and I had an important meeting at work. I sat with him for an extra twenty minutes and hated having to leave. But I made it just in time.

Dropped the kids off at daycare this morning, which was about 6km with 100+ lbs in the trailer (well, empty trailer coming back). Dropped the trailer at home then figured I'd have an easy ride into work.... which turned into a KOM on a Strava segment called "Climb or Die", and a couple more PRs on some climbs in East Vancouver. Overall pretty happy with the leg strength that's going along with the extra mileage I've been adding each week!

An afternoon storm and subsequent cloudiness made for some cooler temps on the way home yesterday. The rain had stopped and roads were pretty dry, but the humidity was plenty high. I have definitely been riding a bit slower lately with the higher temps and humidity.
I rescued a turtle on the way in this morning. I see plenty of road kill, but I always hate to see a squashed turtle. I tell myself if I ever see one trying to cross that I'd stop and help him. That opportunity presented itself this morning. He was about 2/3 of the way across. It wasn't a busy road, but his chances of successfully crossing - especially since he was just sitting there retracted into his shell - were not very good. I put him in the grass just off the road and went about my business.

I came across a big snapper this morning that didn't fare so well. He had to be a few decades old and with at least a 15" shell. Crushed.
About 50 yards down the road there were stones scattered from a stone wall and a mailbox busted at the post.
Coincidence? ....Tough to say.

Rode home yesterday via my river route, but rode up the Byrne/Southridge hill for the first time. Not bad; total is 85m elevation over 2.2km = 3.8% grade. The Strava segment is 1.6km, 62m, 4%. Came in middle of the pack (44/100), which is relatively lower than most of my Strava placings (typically in the top 20%, often top 10%), however this one may be a bit biased towards a fitter group of riders; recreational commuters wouldn't really frequent this route like they do on many of my other segments. Anyways, looking forward to climbing the leaderboards on that one, as afterwards it's a nice flat ~5km to my house. Good way to finish a nice commute.

Improved my time today on that Byrne / Southridge climb; 5:24 today vs 5:36 my first ride on it last week, so a 3.5% improvement. Average speed 17.7 km/h = 11.0 mph. Please tell me you weren't pulling the kid with you @ 12 mph up there.... I had my regular commuter load but nothing extra!
Great job though. I can never figure out which day I am faster I feel like Mondays should be the fastest but Tuesdays always feel fastest.

That was my old daily grind. In a sick way I looked forward to it. It was the halfway point for my commute and I loved trying to hammer up the hill. Sometimes it went well other times I was just sucking wind. I can no longer remember my stats up that hill. I feel like I tried to hold 12 miles/hour going up (19km/h). But I never had the technology or memory to consistently track the times. Plus there is the light halfway up that gets you at times and once you lose momentum it is hard to start again.
But I do agree I rarely saw other commuters going up it, going down I would sometimes see others. But after that it was mostly downhill for me also. Which is some of the motivation to push hard. And 5 km is a great cool down distance.

About 94F for my ride home yesterday, but not quite as humid as the morning. This was definitely the hottest ride so far this year, with full sun and no clouds. But the constant breeze of riding seems to make it okay and I did not feel miserable.
Good ride in. Added a little extra on a MUP this morning. When I do that I usually see nobody or perhaps a dog walker or a runner. But today I saw about 50 or more kids and a few adults jogging down the path. Must be a training camp of some sort - soccer maybe. When I got to the end there was a plethora of water bottles and such awaiting their return.

Mild morning, 15C/59F, sunny, *DRY*, but a 17kmh/10mph headwind breeze from the N (according to the weather service, it felt more like coming from the NE). I pushed a bit harder to try to make a better time and although it was a bit better, 24.1kmh avg, I've done faster than this year and the headwind held me back but I'm happy with it.

Cloudy morning, some headwind. very humid.
No bird attack this morning but it came close, I filmed myself for a few minutes while in the ''danger zone'' and saw on the video that it came and flew over me for 5-6 second before leaving, I'll try again for the next few mornings.

I decided to go out for a group ride after work in the afternoon, about 30 miles into the group ride up and past some hills I was falling a bit behind but had the group still in my view. One issue with my large chainring that I had to fix and my group was out of site. I had my paper map but unfortunately, my weakpoint is directions. My mind shifted from finishing the course to trying to get back home.
I tried to ask the locals for help, asking a fisherman, but he steered me wrong for about 6 miles. I ended up asking a man washing his car in his driveway and he gave me some directions to get to a main road. I took off to the main road about 10 miles away and tried to follow the map only to realize that I was fairly off course from the map now and the directions were near useless. I went about 10 more miles until I got worried and checked my position on google maps to find I had been on the road I wanted ... but over shot much too far. I turned off Strava after logging 49+ miles on Strava. I google bike GPSed a route and turned off the GPS after getting started on route to save battery. My front bicycle light also ran out of steam. Luckily, my rear one was still working fine. I knew if I kept the GPS up my phone would be dead, and I was still 30+ miles away from home. I stopped at gas stations to charge up on food and water and talked to people to make sure I was on the correct route. Riding gets scary in the pitch black darkness. There's a nice calm about looking up at the night sky and seeing stars through the clouds. Thank goodness I had a $20 bill in my flat repair kit. I got home safely at 11:30 at night, covered over 80 miles and 4000ft elevation, for a ride that started at 5:00pm.
TLDR; I have the worse sense of navigation and it's time I get a non-phone GPS to get home safer, always carry a $20 bill in your kit, charge your lights always, and always appreciate the scenery.

I had a nice commute. A bit of a late start, but okay.
Rant ahead:
My issues was with shoalers. They kept shoaling me, and it was really irritating. Shoaling is one thing, passing legitmatley and remaining faster is another. If I pass you, odds are you will not pass me again without a lot of effort. But do not scoot in front of me at a stop light then fricken dawdle. If I wanted to ride at 12 kmph I would ride with my wife. If I wanted to deal with idiot drivers I would drive. Take your place at the bike path stop sign, and wait your turn and then pass when you know you are faster and can maintain the speed (hill exceptions allowed). I was okay with the two guys who waited to pass me on their nice light bike (I was drooling over the old steel Rossin, I miss mine). They kept in front and waited their turns at lights. They also kept glancing back and were not losing me too much and we all seemed to be working hard.
I know this forum is not a location to correct shoaler actions, but I needed to vent.
I also had a tandem dump truck completely take the shoulder and pin/bottle neck me against a concrete stanchion. I had to sit and lean against the stanchion and wait for him to finally clear, I was even worried he would get me with his dump trailer. It was just an oblivious driver and meant no harm, but stay in your lane.

Had an experience with a shoaler last week ... AFTER I had passed him when he entered into traffic (an unsafe entrance at that), at the next stop light he shoaled me. Then when the light turns green the a$$hat is in his big gear, so he's mashing and unable to get up to speed, slowing me down and eventually slowing another commuter down. I don't mind being passed, and I'm not the quickest when I'm commuting, but dammit, do NOT shoal me. I'd never do that.

If only there were some device you could get for free that would help you track your rides.........
I also see no use other than this to justify getting a smart phone. I do not even want the phone I have right now (after a pregnant wife blacked in traffic and takes the earlier ferry while I sit in the pub waiting for the next boat we had to get phones). But I will upgrade my wife's phone this week she could benefit from one for work.

my knee was sore last week. I tried to ignore it (usually stuff like that just goes away) but now it's very bad. I'm on a self-imposed commuting-ban for the next week and a half, then I'm on vacation for a week. Minimal cycling for me. Sucks, but I want to be intact for the triple crown: Triple Crown for Heart | Biking three mountains in one day for Children's and Women's Hospital | Triple Crown for Heart

I have been thinking about that. But I am not a fan of what they have to offer, Virgin looks good. Plus it seems anytime I try to do something (online or phone in) their system is undergoing maintenance.

Great thing about MEC too is their unflappable return policy. Try it for a few months even and if you don't like it they'll take it back.

The commute in was great this morning. We have cool weather and my legs felt better than yesterday. That's always a great thing.

Mild 9C/48F but clear and sunny although a constant breeze, 22kmh/14mph, much of it was a headwind.
Yesterday's long ride home was similar although much warmer: sunny and clear, my biking tan is coming along nicely.

A bit of a tail wind for the first part of the ride home last night. That was nice.
Good ride in this morning. There is spot where some kudzu is trying to cross the road. It's fun seeing how much it has grown each morning and if enough cars hit it to deaden the ends or not.

Not commuting related, but a groundhog has decided to take up residence in my vegetable garden (inside the fence - who knew they could climb?). I filled in his hole (which he wasn't too happy about) but it was freshly dug out again this morning. He hasn't eaten any veggies yet, but it's only a matter of time.
Any tips on relocation?
The ride in today was uneventful. A little cooler than the past few days, but just as humid. High is only 75F today. It got up to 92 yesterday.
