I just bought a new Magicshine light instead of spending the time on their recall hassle. It wasn't the first $89 thrown away on cheap Chinese garbage worthy workmanship. Last one was a cast vise that broke. That amount of light is worth $200 anyway. And now I have a spare head to put on another bike.

is what the battery looks like, and there's a sticker on it that says to fully charge the battery before use and "do not attempt to measure voltage with a multimeter; this can trip the battery pack's safety mechanisms." How can a multimeter do that? Or did they just put that on there to frustrate the Colleens of the world?

This thing has a female plug if I recall correctly. If you jam multimeter probes in there, you're likely to short it out. (But if you do it by using a proper male plug properly wired to your multimeter and measuring via that, then there will be no problems -- but that's a bit verbose for a warning label.)
I'll bet a lot of people ruined their old packs by jamming multmieter probes in there.

Now what am I supposed to do with my spare time? Wait, I know: play around with my Magicshine XML and my Bikeray IV whenever that gets shipped.

Someone might also try to test the pack in the amps range which would short it out.
However, that shouldn't bother anything. If it's properly designed it will have a polyswitch which will just shut off under heavy load, and turn back on after the short is gone. I have a Tenergy pack, and the wiring on the Magicshine has shorted several times (frayed wire). It doesn't cause a problem, the light just shuts off, I replace the shorted wire, and get back on the road.

Either the XML Magicshine or the Bikeray IV will be mounted on my helmet. I need to check out the beam to see which one has better throw. I'm suspecting the BR will be better as it suppose to have a 15 degree lens. Just got notice that it was shipped today. I will find out hopefully by Friday.

I just got it today. So far I am liking it. Very bright but not sure of the throw. The tint is questionable as it seem like a little on the greenish side which was what I notice from most XML flashlight beamshot posted on the web.
Here is a beamshot from 10 feet out. The bottom left is a new Magicshine 900 P7. The bottom right is the new Magicshine XML. The top beam is from a Shiningbeam P Rocket XPG R5 450 lumen. And finally, my helmet with a 2cell Dinotte battery running the MS XML, this helmet of mine is looking like a Simulated Borg. I know I am gonna get a lot of stare from passenger on the train. Anyway, not to be hijacking this thread, so back to normal schedule broadcast.

It's not too bad since I'm used to a flashlight and PBSF on my helmet. However the Geoman 4cell pack with their housing was making me a Bobble head . Hence, reason for using the much lighter 2cell Dinotte pack. Shorter run time but with much less whip lash.

Ok - so now we know that the recall process is indeed replacing some customer batteries. That's a good thing.
I think there is an issue where Geoman may have had people return working batteries that have been shorted "dead" by attempts to measure them. Hence they put a sticker out telling people to stop trying. As one reader mentioned, "protected battery" packs can appear damaged or dead after being short-circuited -even though they are not damaged.
I recently tested the new light head with an old "dealx" battery and was surprised to find that the protection circuit didn't work at all.

I bet the darned moooslims run for cover when they see you coming, GI.
I recycled my battery and sent in the form last week, since I really won't need a light in the mornings now for a few months anyway. Even if I do, it's not like it was my only light.

And you ought to see people reaction on their faces when I put on my helmet. Never have I had so many eye balls converging at the top of my head.

After watching that video, I'm glad I chose a Dinotte LiIon pack. If one of those China made pack shorts out on my helmet, I will look like that Lighted Man shooting firework off the top of my head.
