Well I'm not sure about you pepperbelly , but I got rain here in South Hills neighborhood. It was quite a squall; I'd guess we got nearly an inch of rain in about 20 minutes with pretty high winds, like 50-60 mph. I just got back from walking my dog....it is humid af outside. But at least it's not 100.

Apparently it was very spotty. Most people I know didn't get any. We should get some this weekend though.

Bikes: too many sparkly Italians, some sweet Americans and a couple interesting Japanese

Tucson is 106º but we are still up here in the Bighorns where it is mid 70s today and until we see Tucson down in the 90s.

They decided to add rain to the forecast next week. They change their minds like I change socks.

Feeling jealous about that forcast. It's the end of the first week of Septemeber and I'm sitting here looking at a temp of 107* at 3:03 pm

The computer algorithm took the rain back out.
I went for a ride this afternoon. 85° but much lower humidity thanks to a cool front. I am looking forward to the coming week.

45 degrees early Sunday morning !

rode later in the day - around mid 60’s - tad chilly when we returned after the sun had gone down … maybe around 60 at that point

I've been riding at night when it cools off enough, but it's been stagnant, hot, and with desert winds, pushing the smoke from the local fires over us. Smoky air and triple-digits don't make for the most hospitable riding conditions.
Woke up this morning, and the heat had broken. Coastal breeze has pushed the smoke back to the hills, and it's cool enough to get back to commuting by bike.

In lieu of riding, I did spend my spare time in the garage last week getting to the second of two Electra Ticinos I had picked up recently. They were beat up and shoved in a corner of the garage of a couple who had taken to E-bikes. I had fixed up one of them for my wife to enjoy. With no riding in the cards, I set up fans in the garage and set to work on this one for me.

Our high is supposed to get back in the mid 90s this weekend. I am hoping the lows are staying below 80°. Our humidity is coming back too.

103 at 3:52 pm in Tucson today. It was 75 this morning, so I took the crackhead dog out for a 2 1/2 mile trail walk today. Tomorrow morning will be mtn biking on the same trails.

We will be hot again this weekend. Maybe 100° but it won’t last. It is supposed to drop into the 90s Tuesday.

How are you guys doing with the wildfire smoke from CA and NV fires.
We woke up to heavy smoke this morning. Heavy smoke smell and it was burning my eyes. There was even small bits of ash floating around at about 6 am.
Unhealthy AQ all over the valley. Still at the 100* mark this late afternoon though.

Who else is still dealing with 100 degree temps. We're still predicting 100+ into early next week and high 90's the rest of next week. Something like 15* above the average for this time.
I know it's the desert but..Jeez..it's October already. At this rate I might be handing out bottles of Gatorade instead of candy for Halloween

It's really cold in Phx now.

Here in North Texas we are down to upper 60s for the low and low 90s for the high with low humidity. Mornings and evenings are really nice right now.

No, please no.

Cold weather always has a clothing solution.

Hot weather means suffering is unavoidable.

that's a little easier to say when you live in southern California!

I'll ride when it is cold, and have ridden to work when it was 0F in the morning.
Still, the clothing does have limits, even while winter riding has its charms.

The most trouble that I've had with cold weather was when I had to fix a flat tire when it was 8F and the sun was setting. I don't recommend this, regardless of your clothing.

By the same token, I've lived in southwest Arizona for a few years, and learned to ride at night instead of dealing with temperatures of 120F. That sort of heat will kill you just as easily as the extreme cold will.

years ago did a 300+ mile snowmobile ride in the Allegheny National Forest

single digit temps as we rode through the night … caught in a blizzard - made it worse … ( who knew it could snow like that when temps were that low )

had mechanical issue ; had to work on one sled … with temp that low could only work without gloves for two minutes or so at a time … used engine / exhaust heat to warm the hands - but still had mild case of frost bite after that

yeah, that sounds about right!
I did have the good idea to keep a thin pair of gloves in the bag for fixing a tire. It was great for providing some dexterity while avoiding touching bare flesh to an aluminum rim at extremely cold temperatures.
Another lesson from times at low temperatures... tube patch glue doesn't seem to work. I guess the solvent can't properly soften the tube and evaporate? Not exactly sure. All I know is that I carry two tubes, just in case. I do still carry the patch kit too, but just don't rely on it at subfreezing temps.
